3.75 stars-- SURRENDERED is the third instalment in Monica James’s I Surrender series focusing on up and coming chef Ava Thompson and rock god/singer Jasper White. Surrendered commences immediately after the events of book two Surrender To Me. The series must be read in order for cohesion and understanding.

The storyline follows Ava and Jasper as they traverse the minefield that has become their lives. Jasper’s mother, a former addict and alcoholic, continues in her attempts to destroy Ava and Jasper’s relationship while pushing Jasper’s former girlfriend Indie in an attempt to break them up. As Ava tries desperately to understand Jasper’s need to continue his relationship with his mother, it is the ex girlfriend and the groupies that have Ava seeing red.

SURRENDERED is a storyline that is emotional and intense because there is very little happiness throughout the book for our leading couple. Someone is always attempting to destroy what is left of the fragile hold on their love, and a mistake in judgment and observation will find Jasper and Ava struggling to remain as one. Ava’s inability to communicate with Jasper finds our couple in a constant state of turmoil and agitation because Jasper knows Ava is hiding something or not telling the truth.

Jasper’s connection to his abusive mother is one that many people will have a difficult time understanding or accepting. Yes, the woman has issues, as do we all, but her need to control her son makes Jasper appear weak and desperate for attention from a woman who does not know what it is to love. It is this side of Jasper’s personality (and his relationship with his mother) that drove a good portion of the storyline and in this, the emotional distress was a little disconcerting and controversial.

2.0 out of 5 stars Story Line not Well Thought Out 26 September 2016

Pros

My compliments to the best ending. The last 25% was beautifully written, deep, highly emotional and really tugged on your heart strings.

Cons

First 75% however, very disappointing. Not well thought out, the author really insulted the readers intelligence.

For Example:

Ava, thinks she may be pregnant. Instead of taking a test to confirm her suspicion, she wants to wait for her BF to come back in town from her
honeymoon (IMMATURE). In the mean time, she refuses to have sex with Jasper, because Ava, a 23yr old woman believes having sex while pregnant can give the baby brain damage (STUPID). . When her BF comes back in town, Ava is scared to take the pregnancy test so to coax her along the BF takes a test with her (WEAK).

Oh and this gets better..., when one of the test confirms positive and Ava now believe she is pregnant, she still does not tell Jasper (of course she has not learned her lesson from lying to Jasper the last time regarding her ex, Harper, nearly causing the demise of her relationship). Jasper finds about her pregnancy by accident, because stupid, weak Ava does not tell him.

This is where you really insult your readers intelligence

…., Ava and Jasper visit the doctor to confirm the P test. After she complete her blood work, they spend time in the Docs office asking several pregnancy questions. As the reader, we are under the assumptions she got test results. However we later find out that she got the results two weeks later when her actual doctor is back in town. And guess what, she is not pregnant. Ava got her test mixed up with her BF. Veronica is pregnant. Okay, Author, I am not sure if you did your research or you just prefer to insult your readers intelligence …..., but NEWS FLASH, it takes 10 min in the Doc office to confirm ones pregnancy. And a Doc is not going to waste their precious office hour time answering pregnancy questions without a CONFIRMED TEST.

Oh and this just keeps getting better, as if Ava has not learned her lesson, she does not tell with Jasper her non-pregnancy status. Because in Ava's weak, stupid mind "it is not the right time".

Hey Ava, I have an idea. Why did you not do what most healthy minded 23yr old woman that is in a loving relationship would do, discuss it with your boyfriend go and take the test to determine your status.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jasper White is back and better than ever! 13 August 2014

6 stars!
I was lucky enough to have been asked by Ms. Monica James to do a read through of Surrendered before it was released and WOW! I am still trying to come up pith the words to express just how amazing this story was! Monica really brought it in the third and final installment of the I Surrender series, and most definitely ended things with a bang. I am not sure that anyone, myself included, is ready to say goodbye to the infamous Jasper White.

Ladies, you wanted more Jasper, and it was what seemed like a long and grueling lapse in time, but let me tell you… it was well worth the wait!

This entire series has been a crazy whirlwind of emotions, and Surrendered was no different. I found myself going from happy to sad to mad in a matter of one tenth of a second. Who knew one could go through such drastic emotional changes in less time than it takes to blink your eye. There were times that I wanted to simultaneously hate Monica for all that she put Jasper and Ava through (and for what she put me as a reader through as well), and also hug her for writing such captivating stories which made me feel alive. Monica has this special talent where she is able to make you feel as if you are living out the events in the book instead of reading about someone else's story. I was at times finding it difficult for my brain to accept that everything was indeed a work of fiction, and in fact not actual events.

Every time it seems that Jasper and Ava will finally get their Happily Ever After, more and more obstacles are thrown in their path. Jasper's ex, Indie, and his mother seem to be closer than ever, and both are relentless in their attempts to break apart the relationship between Jasper and Ava once and for all. The drama is at an all time high (and so was my anxiety), and this book will keep you turning page after page completely unsure of what to expect will happen.

Secrets are uncovered, lies unfold, and hard realities come crashing down in this intense series end. Can true love survive in the end?

This installment of Ava and Jasper's relationship starts with the fallout from Harper. Things seem to be on track for them until people and situations chip away at their s rocky foundation. Can they and their love survive. There are so many heartfelt moments in this book. The scenes are written in vivid detail ask if you were watching a movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing all round!!!! 13 August 2014

Wow! Monica didn't fail to deliver in the final (or not so final) segment of Jasper and Ava's romance. Once again their relationship pushed and pulled in all directions, Ava makes vital mistakes of keeping secrets and running in the other direction but as always her best friend 'v' put her on the right road to happiness every time (which by the way I love that she has remained a solid character in all three on these books, even as the story has developed she is as much a main character as Jasper and Ava.)
Jasper ah! my heart goes out to him in this book, he is put under so much pressure from everyone around him. he just wants to do what is best for everyone but in the end its destroying him.
the twists and turns of this book are amazing there are so many of them and i loved every single one of them.
coming ot the end of the book my heart began to race (believe me Monica came very close to receiving hate mail from me) But as the end of their chapter closed I feel its not over. True love is never over and after all what really happens after the 'Happy ever after' the story doesn't just stop it blossoms and grows
3.0 out of 5 stars Just stay together for the love of god! 20 September 2014

I've been on a romance novel kick the last few months and even the really bad ones haven't deterred me from browsing and buying more from different authors, but Surrendered might be the first to send me to a different genre. The back and forth between these Jasper and Ava is so annoying and frustrating. I know that other authors do it, but for some reason, the way Monica wrote it, drove me crazy. I'm not done with book 3, but I already know it's going to go in the same direction..they are going to break up and get back together. I like when romance series bring a couple together and then have them stay together, but work to overcome difficulties that get thrown in their way during books two and three. But to STILL be pushing and pulling at each other by the end of book 3 is ridiculous. (yeah I looked ahead in the book...so sue me) I think it was frustrating more than other series because Monica wrote about their connection beautifully. And there is no way that a woman as in love as Ava is with Jasper would continually keep pushing him away. I don't even know if I have the energy to finish book three. These books aren't bad by any means, but I just want them to be together and weather the storm TOGETHER already. Sheesh
