Product Description

This is the first book in the Surrender Trilogy. It has been recently re-edited. Katherine Anderson was living a dream life. She came from an influential family, had a successful career as a food critic, and was about to marry the man of her dreams. Her life suddenly takes a change for the worse when she finds her fiancé in the arms of another woman. Her dream wedding now cancelled, she tries to find herself in Italy, on a trip she was supposed to be taking with her new husband.

Massimo "Tony" Bertalucci has had his life destroyed by a cartel known to be trafficking black market olive oil out of Italy and around the world. While the cartel thought the entire Bertalucci family was dead and buried, Tony remains very much alive and determined to find a way to get his life back.

When Tony and Katherine’s worlds collide, she becomes Tony’s only hope of escaping Italy alive. What Katherine doesn’t realize is that this charming, unassuming Italian man is using her to save his own life. Will she be able to get back to the states safely, or will she be subjected to the same fate as Tony's family? Will Tony find a way to stop running? Or will he have to surrender his life to the cartel?

This is a fast paced story about a woman who travels to Europe after a life changing event. Little did she know her dream vacation was about to be a disaster. I enjoyed the story line, it was entertaining and stayed at a good pace. I wasn't a fan of how quickly things moved along between our main character and her European beau. I'm not a fan of weaker female leads, especially when they make so many smart choices and then turn stupid when talking to a man. I felt the ending was a bit abrupt, we found out something only for it to end the entire book. Overall great read.

This book is full of suspense, betrayal, anxiety, tensions, romance, twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. I fell in loved with Katherine and Tony. There were times through the book I was cringing and heart broken which I certainly was not prepare for but definitely worth it in the end.
Get ready to go for a ride of every page you turn from the beginning to end.
Enjoy and happy reading. Great book Jennifer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book that can be read as a stand alone. 30 January 2015

I bought Surrender as a recommendation in a review group I'm part of, it's a romantic thriller with lots of action and intrigue and just a hint of erotica to spice it up, without the monotony that so often comes with a lot of erotic fiction. I love the fact that this book is a full story, not a piece of a story published as a serial to make you buy more books, it is a full story in its own right and if the author hadn't written another book I would merely be disappointed that I wouldn't be able to interact further with the characters. There are a few loose ends which left me feeling that the author left it open for the future, without that: 'I. Hate. Cliffhangers!' feeling so many authors seem to love. It's a well written, fast paced unique story and fortunately, I have noticed there is another book in the series which I am heading off to buy now. Can't wait to see where she takes it next. There is some violence and adult content so this is one for older readers only. 4stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action, love, Italy! 30 January 2015

I read the blurb and was like this has got to be a good book. Good girl, decent guy, the cartel yep it has to be good.
I sat down around 9:00 this morning and between hanging out with my daughter and doing housework I was finally able to finish this book around 2:30 in the afternoon. It was hard for me to put down as I was wondering where would this book take me.

I was not disappointed at all. Katherine is what I would call normal she has a job as a food critic which I think is totally cool, and one day while going to a restaurant she ends up sick which makes her return home. On returning home she discovers something very horrible her fiance in bed with another woman. Duh, duh dun! I think that is how that goes. With her now ex-fiance cheating on her Katherine decides to head to Italy! Which I think is a great idea as to now she can try to forget Mike and see something new I think that is what she needs.
Now when she first comes to Italy she meets this handsome green-eyed Italian hunk. He of course has his eyes set on her and it is not for the right reasons or at least not at first. This is where she meets Tony. But there is more to Tony than meets the eye.
Tony has a past and is being hunted down by the cartel but he doesn't want Katherine to know this because she is his way out of the country.
As we watch these two characters we can see the spark start igniting between them. It starts off with dinners, and then eventually Katherine going with Tony to where he needs answers, and then soon the couple who are not truly a couple end up in trouble. We see how Katherine is able to survive and take the worse kind of punishment she is survivor and I liked that. When she was in trouble she didn't play the victim of giving up, she played the role of she was going to survive this though she wasn't sure how.
The ending was one I was hoping for.
The book is full of action, love, heartache and there are some people you just can not trust. It is a good book to sit down and devour if you have the time.

The author did a great job of describing places to visit, dinners to eat, the way the food taste to where I want to visit Italy some day. The way she described seeing places for a tourist I could imagine myself there and that was what I liked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance and suspense in one 2 February 2015

Have to confess I was a bit confused by the start of the book, was getting settled for a nice romance story, the way you have so many of them.
The entrance of the man in the tale, typical holiday romance getting on the way, still nothing to worry about.
Until you get dragged in the heat of the story, action getting always faster and faster, and the feelings between the two main characters growing with it (as was to be expected).
I could have done with a bit less violence in a certain part of the story, but it was well used to make a point about what kind of persons we're dealing with.
I liked the end, just open enough to hope for a next book to come about them, but still so finished you can read this book just like this.

All in all, I would recommend this book to people that like their books with action and romance. Certainly a writer to grap the next book from!
5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful and steamy! 8 October 2014

Jennifer Burrows hit the mark with her third book, Surrender! This is an excellent, fast-paced suspenseful read you won't be able to put down. I felt like I was Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, but with waaaaay more steamy romance, and not as much nerdy history.

I don't want to risk providing any spoilers so I won't tell you much more about the plot than what's already been said. Like Jennifer's other books, this one it told in the 3rd person which allows you to experience the tale through multiple characters' perspective. Just as you start to empathize with one character, you're transformed to someone else's tale, which makes the book move along quickly.

For me, one of the most fun parts of the book is the author's realistic descriptions of both New York City and Italy. I live in New York City so it was fun to follow Katherine around her own town - she visits places I've been to which makes the story and the character seem so real. Most of the story, however, takes place in Italy which is super fun. The author gives such a vivid description of the countryside, the city sights, and the museums, you literally are transformed and feel like you are traveling around Italy with Katherine and Tony. I could practically smell the pasta and taste the rich Italian wine.

This is a must-read! You will LOVE IT!! I can't wait for the sequel.

The book could have been a lot better with some editing and a few suggestions on behavior patterns. We were told that Kate was an intelligent woman, but she certainly made very stupid choices along the way. Her initial reticence and her later choice to throw caution to the wind when she learned that her life would be seriously endangered seemed only used as a literary expedient. It would have been nice if the author had clued us in to the circumstances surrounding Tony's escape. or was that left for the next book?

Someone needs to tell this author that the word "of" does not belong in places such as "too good of. . ." I can ignore some of the duplicated words here and there, but when a grammatical error is repeated it is somewhat bothersome that the editor did not notice it.

I might have given this book 4 or even five stars if it had been better edited. The storyline mostly works but the execution in many areas leaves something to be desired.
