Product Description

'An in-your-face guide to living with integrity and finding happiness in sometimes-painful places.' Kirkus

'Hilarious, vulgar, and immensely thought-provoking. Only read if you're willing to set aside all excuses and take an active role in living a f*cking better life.' Steve Kamb, bestselling author of Level Up Your Life and founder of nerdfitness.com

EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT HOW TO IMPROVE OUR LIVES IS WRONG. NOW SUPERSTAR BLOGGER MARK MANSON TELLS US WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO GET IT RIGHT.

For decades, we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. Drawing on academic research and the life experience that comes from breaking the rules, Mark Manson is ready to explode that myth. The key to a good life, according to Manson, is the understanding that 'sometimes shit is f*cked up and we have to live with it.'

Manson says that instead of trying to turn lemons into lemonade, we should learn to stomach lemons better, and stop distracting ourselves from life's inevitable disappointments chasing 'shit' like money, success and possessions. It's time to re-calibrate our values and what it means to be happy: there are only so many things we can give a f*ck about, he says, so we need to figure out which ones really matter.

From the writer whose blog draws two million readers a month and filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humour, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is a welcome antidote to the 'let's-all-feel-good' mindset that has infected modern society.

This is a book that all adults over 25 should read. Unfortunately it is unlikely to be considered a masterpiece by mainstream press due to the strong language, which is a bit of a shame. On the other hand, the use of profanities is clearly a clever tactic to make it appeal to the common man, and this is not such a bad idea. More sales and more people reading his important message is a win, win.

Excellent. Quite different from typical self improvement books. It's not about pumping up your tyres and making you feel upbeat short term. It's about asking yourself the hard questions, things you would rather not think about and choosing the right values.

Mark Manson actually lists the 5 Values you need to adopt. At first the 5 may seem counter inuitive but he makes his points very effectively and it makes perfect sense.

A lot to take in, actually, and very succinctly expressed, I found myself thinking about his ideas for hours afterwards and remembering major points in my daily life....like - act like you don't know anything - because we don't really and Mark makes a case for this very clear. This certainly stops that pre-emptive approach which leads to worrying or making up stuff to be upset about.
I will re-read this book. It's got so much to offer.

Loved this book - it will change the way I see and act in the world. it is wonderfully honest, well researched and a 'read it in one sitting' experience. No new age junk and no selling involved! I will be giving a copy to over-burdened and/or anxiety prone family and friends in the hope that it will change life for them too. Loved the concepts and especially "disappointment panda" - my new super hero friend for the grandchildren!

This book gives you a lot to think about in a non academic, slightly humorous non preachy style. The topics are essential to understanding how to live a good life illustrated with many of the authors own experiences. It should give readers some insight and confidence to examine their lives and be better people as a result.

I've read this four times in two months. I'll read it again. I'm buying it for others for Xmas. Highly recommended. This isn't a self help book with affirmations and exercises. This is a perspective on all the hard things we avoid in life and why they're necessary. Fantastic work.
