Product Description

People would say Lydia’s stupid for living the way she does, because they don’t know all the complications that trap her. She’s tried to escape her lifestyle a hundred times and failed. Broken, she’s fallen into a spiral that has left her life littered with empty shot glasses, dozens of one night stands, and so-called “good times” that never seem to end.

Lydia’s barreling toward rock bottom, face first.

But Aiden Badeau, a sexy and mysterious man, has just moved in next door and his apartment quickly becomes Lydia’s hide-out from the one-night stands that just won’t leave. Aiden’s has even given her a hand by throwing out some of the trash she’s brought home. He’s swiftly becoming a rock in Lydia’s life.

But Aiden has secrets and baggage too that might prove too slippery for her grip - especially when some of his mysteries revolve around her. Lydia must claw her way out of her own problems and find herself again, before she can determine if Aiden is the rock she can cling to, or the one that will crush her heart forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow... 13 August 2016

I'm not sure I can put my love for this book into words. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but I knew it would be great because of who wrote it. And it blew me away. Living a secret life she never expected, Lydia Strong turns to alcohol and men to flush away her pain. Until a new neighbor shows up and changes the game. Can he help her save herself? Or will she fall back into the depths of her secrets. This book was a phenomenal and easy read. I couldn't put it down and wanted more when it was over so I could continue to live in this book.
5.0 out of 5 stars Chandelier Girl 17 September 2016

Misty Provencher is one of my favorite authors. Her prose is amazing (for example, I'm sure she could come up with about 3 synonymous statements that are so much more engaging than "amazing") and always draws this reader in to her stories.

Lydia is the embodiment of Sia's "Chandelier":

"Party girls don't get hurt
Can't feel anything, when will I learn
I push it down, push it down

I'm the one "for a good time call"
Phone's blowin' up, ringin' my doorbell
I feel the love, feel the love

1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink
1, 2, 3 1, 2, 3 drink

Throw 'em back, till I lose count

I'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier
I'm gonna live like tomorrow doesn't exist
Like it doesn't exist
I'm gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry
I'm gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier

But I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down won't open my eyes
Keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I'm just holding on for tonight
Help me, I'm holding on for dear life, won't look down won't open my eyes"

Lydia drinks to drown her guilt and pain. Until she decides she doesn't want to be numb anymore. This story is about Lydia's struggle to come to terms with not only being an alcoholic, but the reasons she started drinking in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Provencher Hits It Out of the Park 28 April 2014
By Ms. I Read to Escape - Published on Amazon.com

Riveting story because of the excellent character development. This is one of those books that sucks you in in such a way that you forget you're reading a book. You're just living an alternate life in another universe. Everyone in the book is real, with real attitudes, real conversations, real personalities, and real events.

Misty Provencher has a gift for lyrical writing. Some evocative phrases I loved:

"people who share a bottle over the constant mountain slides that we call our lives"

"Aidan and I move in, surrounding him, leaning and being leaned on, like a tepee of souls, trying to kindle enough faith to send up a genuine signal of hope."

Provencher's handling of the topic of alcoholism was deft, compassionate and real. As another reviewer mentioned, there was no sense of preachiness; it was simply a walk in the life of Lydia. Joining her in her journey was both heart-wrenching and joyful. There's nothing like rooting for a character to do the right thing and be filled with hope that she's going to make it.

Sex level is for mature audiences, but because of the plot line, the sex wasn't gratuitous like you might think. There are a couple depictions of male on female sexual violence that may be disturbing to some readers.

This was worth losing a few hours of sleep like I did last night in finishing the book. Just couldn't put it down.
5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ! 19 February 2016

Have you ever read that book and you're like this is good and then as you get further into the book you're like no this is great? Well this is one of those books. Lydia hangs out, picks up guys (even has categories she puts them in) and never goes past her 3 date rule. Then there are those days she dresses for work and meets up with Des. Then Aiden moves in next door and everything changes.

This book is about a girl who finds out what it means to be Stronger then she ever thought. It's about choices and realizing that you can face anything once you realize that you can be Stronger and you're not alone even when you think you are. Be prepared to run the gamut of emotions when you read this book. It had me smiling, gasping and dropping my jaw and there were also tears. Even when going back to write this review and rereading parts had me feeling what I felt the first time I read it. A powerful story that I recommend when you start it having the time to finish it, it's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!! 27 April 2014

OH MY WORD!! Misty Provencher has blown me away with this book. WOW!!
This story is amazing and brilliantly written. Misty Provencher has created a beautiful yet gut wrenching tale of strength, passion, and discovery.
I immediately loved Lydia. She was one screwed up woman that lived her life on the edge.
Always having a drink in hand and a man in her bed, she was living it up according to her.
But things aren't always what they appear. Lydia has a torturous past that, in her mind, damages her future. I was taken aback at the series of events that transpired for her to end up where she is now. So much has happened to her, hell, still happening to her, that just makes your heart ache. And it isn't all feeling sorry for her. I was boiling mad at her circumstances too...UGH!!
Then a new neighbor enters the picture and this becomes the catalyst for Lydia's hard decisions and ultimate journey she has to make.
Aidan is that bright spot in her gloomy life. And let me just say...WHAT A FREAKIN MAN!!! I fell so hard for him...OMG!! *fans self*
What he does for Lydia has melted my heart and *sighs*...really, you just need to read this book to truly know exactly what I am talking about.
With a whirlwind of emotions wrapped up in the heart-stopping tale, Stronger is definitely one of my top reads for 2014...
