From what I had read this is the first collaboration between Ms Harlow and Mr Romanov and I sincerely hope they keep writing together. It was smoking hot, sexy, touching an emotional and a wondrous journey of self discovery, acceptance and love. It was everything a great romance should be and more. There was some suggestion this was semi-autobiographical and if so then *fans self* Mr Romanov is indeed one very lucky guy, because Maxim and Derek together were just sublime.
Maxim Matveev, at 24, he's newly arrived in L.A from Russia with dreams bursting in his eyes of writing that perfect screen play and becoming famous. Within hours of disembarking instead of being collected from the airport and conveyed to his new 'flat', as was promised, he is robbed of his bag while at a bar and left penniless, homeless and without a single friend. The owner of the bar, Ellen, takes pity on his and calls her brother to come and help.
Cue music...[in steps Derek Wolfe]
Derek is 36 and still single. Raise ins a religious catholic household, he is successful, settled and determined to find 'the right girl' to settle down, get married and have kids with. As a favor to Ellen, he takes in Maxim for a few night until he can sort some rescue money to be transferred to his account from his homeland. Everything about Maxim calls to Derek, from his blond hair, to his muscles, to his blue eyes, to his refreshing innocence and friendliness. Everything, and it rattles all the self confidence right out of Derek, because he KNOWS, nothing good will come from finding the sexy Russian attractive. He cant want him, cant love him, cant marry him or cant have kids with him, in fact if Maxim was female, everything would be perfect, Right?
This was a fabulous tale of self discovery for Derek and he and Maxim together were exactly right on so many levels. A terrific story. Please write more together!
David....Welcome, and congratulations on a wonderful debut collaboration. Looking forward to more of your work 😀 (Emoji from Ellen).
Just know this ! This is a beautifully, well written story. It's just so polished and balanced. Melanie's writing is always first class, but David adds another meaningful and much loved addition.
Stunning cover by the way. Fitting.
Another winner, and must read ! 💕💕💕💕💕
Overall a great read, would have loved for it to be a little longer, though perhaps that might mean one day we'll hear more of their story?

Often with an M/M romance, the actual romance is sacrificed in favour of hot and heavy scenes. Sometimes you're left wondering what the couple could possibly have in common outside of the bedroom. Not so with this beautiful, poignant love story.
That isn't to say that the bedroom scenes are tame, they aren't. Instead, they are really, really satisfying. 😘
I loved the storyline of the apparently straight Derek taking in the newly arrived Maxim after an unfortunate introduction to the USA. Maxim is a young gay man coming to LA with little more than dreams and hopes.
The two men share a reluctant attraction... I'll say no more, read the book yourself! 😉
Oh Derek. What a conflicted, tortured but ultimately brave soul you really were. Maxim is portrayed as the brave one, coming from Russia on a wing and a prayer. My reading is that Maxim makes Derek into the man he is destined to be. It's almost as if Maxim is the older man and Derek the younger. The pair of them together make for a beautiful couple. They totally bring out the best in each other.
I hope this is the start of a new writing duo. Melanie and David have obviously worked well together and there's no reason why that magic can't be recreated.
