Product Description

One day, a pair of wings will change the world. Alise’s wings are killing her.

Twice condemned to death, Alise is slowly fading away after a poisonous Mermaid’s bite, but Rafe will have none of that. Along with two other Guardians of Balance and Alise’s human friend, they go in search of a cure in The Mists, where Gorem’s Wizard is in hiding.

Their journey will be met with danger and strife along the way. With werewolves, demons, dangerous sea creatures, and Alise’s poisoned-filled wings growing back, their chance of survival is slim.

Will Alise survive another murderous plot?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Story For Teens 22 March 2016

Alise's life is in danger, and it's up to Rafe to save her.

Book 2 picks up exactly where Book 1 left off. Alise was poisoned and is dying while her friends are searching for a cure. I did not like this change in Alise. I get it, she is suffering because of her role in book 1, but her character is reduced to the role of a damsel in distress. I felt that was an injustice. It wasn't until about three quarters of the way through ***spoiler*** that she finally proves just how strong she is ***end spoiler***. I appreciated that, and it made me like her once again.

Cassie was probably my favorite in this book. She seemed the most real. Rafe grated on my nerves with his ego, and Nate seemed to serve as a bit of a comic relief. In fact, there seems to be an overabundance of goofy teenage humor in this installment. I didn't find the first book to be that way. Here the banter is full of dull-witted jibes and one liners that only served to dumb down the story and slow the action. Petty teenage squabbles break out and are quickly resolved. I found them pointless and immature. It's almost like the characters are making fun of themselves and the situation, and the book isn't to be taken seriously. I didn't like that at all. When I read fantasy, I want to be immersed in that world, not have the fantasy broken. If it wasn't for the presence of the evil wizard Fabian, I probably wouldn't have finished the book. But dark sorcerers always manage to draw me in.

There are some beautiful descriptions and fantastic action scenes. During those scenes, I felt like this was an awesome book, but the childish dialogue between characters would make me think the opposite, hence the conflicted three star rating. Removing the goofy interactions between characters in the early part of the book would make this a five star book. The last thirty pages were amazing and really drove the story forward. They were worth muddling through the rest.

I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great continuation! 27 March 2016

I really enjoyed book one so I was excited to get the opportunity to read book two. The story takes you fully into the 'other worlds' rather than the human world which was both good and bad. I had a hard time following the different worlds and remembering how they can world jump which was probably due to the time frames between reading book one to this book. Besides that issue, I was able to follow along with the story, worry about our main characters and be intrigued by the worlds and secondary characters to want to know what happens next. I'm doing my best to keep any spoilers out, but I loved the ending and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Would recommend for those young adult and older that like urban fantasy, fantasy and/or clean paranormal romance.

Was given this book via author for review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Action, witches, werewolves, vampires and more- a great combo 16 March 2016

** I received a complimentary copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.**

'The Strength of a Heart' was non-stop action. Full of witches, werewolves, vampires, some very angry sea creatures, Guardians, humans, demons, fairies and a dragon on the rampage. The storyline was great. I had a hard time putting it down. 'The Stolen Wings Series' keeps getting better. Alise is put through hell in this book, more so than the first book, 'The Weight of a Wing'. Rafe, as always, is a hot guardian that has his limits tested in this installment. Cassie is a great character. I love her outlook on the whole 'other worlds' aspect. She pretty much just goes with the flow. Nate and Vale are as bad-ass as ever. I can't wait to read the next book. A great add to your tbr list.
4.0 out of 5 stars I didn't think the story could possibly be any better but I was proved wrong 16 March 2016

I didn't think the story could possibly be any better but I was proved wrong. WOW from page one the story continues and we are taken on a journey that feels like it will never end. We know the characters and we see how this has changed them for better or worse. The twists and turns keep you turning page after page. Just as you are ready to take a breath something else occurs. An excellent weaving of this tale creates a great read and an even better ending. Can't wait for what happens next, the best part of a multi-book series is it gives you time to become not only involved in the story but emotional involved in the outcome for the characters.
