Storm and Fury (The Harbinger Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
From the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of the fantastical Dark Elements series comes a new novel set in a world of gargoyle protectors, rising demons and one girl with an explosive secret.
Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she's been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens – gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they'll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.
When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity's safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she's ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again – but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity's secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she'll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed...

Unfortunately I found Trinity a bit selfish and well, reckless and predictable. I’m glad she’s found Zayne because I think she needs that spark!
Either way, I loved how Jennifer once again tied in together the characters from the previous series and bought in more of a purpose to Zayne. As much as I was team Roth in The Dark Elements series, I still wanted Zayne to find his person and purpose - and I can’t wait to read the next book!!!
Trinity Marrow doesn't let her vision stop her from doing anything. One of the most notable things for me, was that she never told Zayne about it until much later in the book. She is extremely resilient and longs for a life outside the Warden community.
Zayne and Trinity have an instant connection that they don't quite understand and the banter between them made me laugh on many occasions.
Peanut had me in hysterics and I do hope he takes on a bigger part as the series continues.
Bambi..... Boy, did I miss her.... Glad to see her make an appearance here and also hope we see her again!
Overall, I loved all the characters, new and old. The story line to me flowed quite well showing the spectrum of events that define Trinity. I found myself on the edge of my seat sometimes and at other points, I didn't want to turn to the next page due to the emotions that were going through me while reading....
You can read Storm and Fury without Dark Elements but in my opinion, read it first. The tension between all the older characters makes more sense if you do.
I have purchased my copy on Amazon AU.
After finishing the Dark Elements only to realise the Harbinger series was about Zayne instead left me a little sad… Zayne is cool and all but also kind of a whiny princess… go on tell me I’m wrong!
However after seeing his character development and his interactions with Trinity I am much less disappointed.
Trinity on the other hand is badass! I love her lack of composure, her ability to drive Zayne nuts and her general feistiness when it comes to all things. She never lets her issues hold her back.
JLA has a habit of dropping tidbits and crumbs in her stories for you to follow back to grandma’s house and man does it leave you wanting more! Cannot wait to see where this leads!
The action, drama, romance and betrayal.... wow this book had it all!!
After finishing Roth and Laylas series I was super bummed to not have more to read in this world, but then finally this book released and bam I was back to loving the Wardens and a new character, Trinity.
Zayne stole my heart in the The Dark Elements series so I was so damn happy to read more about him.
Bring on book 2 of The Harbinger ❤
But I did love the twists and turns and will read the next instalment
JLA's writing was amazing as always, and i loved the representation with our MC and her disability! wonderful book!

I had read the Dark Elements series and loved it, I loved Layla, Roth and Zayne, but I'm going to say something that people won't agree with...I loved this story a hell of a lot more than the Dark elements.
*throws hands over face*
From the moment I picked up this book I could not put it down, I had to know what was going to happen, I loved Trinity and I love Zayne, and them two together are awesome, and I can not wait to find out what will happen between them again.
I can't wait for the next one, please be June !!!
Happy reading :)
This was an easy read, I wasn't bored but not a stand out plot. It had a good twist at the end that I didn't see coming ( I really underestimated the author after the DE series, didnt I? Sorry!!).
Character-wise I really liked Trinity, she's impulsive, slightly selfish but an overall likeable character and much more interesting that Layla was, and Zayne has improved.
One of the characters has a medical condition I haven't seen in a book before which was really interesting to learn about (although it's not properly explained until very late in the book). Even though the author herself has this condition, the things the character did seemed a little ridiculous at times (able to hand to hand fighting but would then trip over pavements), but it is a fantasy novel I guess (may have sat better with me if her powers helped compensate rather than just instinct and practice), still I love to see diversity and more awareness of medical conditions!
Fyi-It does reveal quite a few spoilers for the dark elements series so you may want to read them first.
I really enjoyed this read and will definitely be reading book 2 to see what happens next. Hopefully won't have a slow a start as book 1.
Worth the read 💗
Storm & Fury is set in the same world as JLA's Dark Element series, of which this series is the spin-off. With that in mind, I recommend you begin with the Dark Element series before this in order to fully understand some of the character back-stories as well as their relationships to one another. I am sure it can be read as a stand-alone series but truth be told, I read this book first and then went to the Dark Elements series as I realised they were connected. Reading the Dark Elements series will give you a bigger insight into the history of some of the characters as well as the world these two series are set in.
This series focuses on Zayne following the events at the end of the Dark Elements series, as well as Trinity, someone who has been hidden away for many years and has special abilities. As such, this book gave me the impression that it is setting the scene for the rest in the series and that bigger and more dramatic events are on the horizon! Given this, you need to settle in for the long haul as you will have plenty of questions at the end (in a good way!).
The characters themselves are lovely - after reading Zayne's story in the Dark Elements, I am glad he is getting his own story and HEA (eventually!) as I really feel he deserves it, even if I wasn't sold on his character until reading this series! Zayne. I was left with a lot of questions in relation to Zayne following the Dark Elements series, and I am glad to have had some of the answers to these in this book. Regarding Trinity, she's impulsive, kick-ass and a little selfish yet still a very likeable character as she is a real character with real concerns and reactions and one you can't help but respect. Trinity has a medical condition that affects her eye-sight, but she doesn't let this define her (and isn't afraid to let Zayne and anyone else know this!). I love the inclusivity of this book and how it raises awareness of a medical condition not many would be aware of! This is definitely a slow-burn romance and I am excited to see their relationship and friendship blossom throughout the series.
I really enjoyed the start of this series, as well as the fact I was reintroduced to the characters from the Dark Elements series again and continue their stories. You can never go wrong with a JLA book, and this is no exception!
