Gahhh.. I love a Max Monroe cliffhanger, but I don't love having to wait another whole entire week to get my next fix! This is a crazy good book that doesn't hit it's emotional peak until the very last few chapters. You know.. them feels when your heart is in your stomach and you just want to grab Lucky and Ollie and shake them and pgraoschehwixkwnqlsp! Yeah... it's that good!

Max Monroe have done it again. I DEVOURED this book. Jesus christ it was such a good read.
I did have a couple of things I didn't like/agree with/feel that they fit with the story, so I'll get those out of the way first.
- Ollie's age - hes 37 in this story, which makes a huge age gap to Lucky (not a huge deal I know), but the character himself didn't feel or sound to me like he was that age. I read him as a lot younger and alot closer to Lucky's age of 27.
- The cover model - he does not at all look like the Ollie I pictured in my head as I was reading this. Which also lends to my age point. He looks way too young. Especially as an Aussie myself, this cover model is not at all how I picture our typical beach bum surfers.
NOW, moving away from all of that I really truly did love this book and when I finished it all I could think was that I damned well need more, and I CANNOT WAIT to hear Ollie's side of this story. Particularly as I think Lucky didn't handle things too well at the end of the story. I totally understand why she acted the way she did, hell I would've jumped to the same conclusions, but she needed to not bury her head in the sand, and confront the issue head on.
Now, this book has a tonne of typical Max Monroe humour in it - from the chapter podcast headings, to the banter and jokes between the characters. I was legit sitting here and grinning like a lunatic at my kindle quite often. *sorry, not sorry, to those around me ;-)
One of the other things that I really and truly loved, was the expressions and slang written in for Ollie. He's an Australian main character, and being an Aussie myself, let me tell you, that we cringe a hell of a lot of the time when it comes to movies or books who get the portrayal of our characters or accents wrong. But Max Monroe have done extremely well with this, and because I'm Aussie, when I read books, I usually read them in our accent, because hey, thats who I am, but when I was reading Ollie, I well and truly felt comfortable, or just, like it was so familiar, because of how they have written him in. I don't even know if that makes sense, but I do know that I felt he was written extremely well. And can I just say, the comment about the thongs at the start? Bahaha, so true, so true!
Anywho, enough of me carrying on about how well he was portrayed accent wise. As for Ollie's personality, I think for the most part I really liked him. Sure, sometimes he definitely came across as a jerk, oh hell yes, but other times it was just him and his sense of humour. (Now, to me, that can again be a very normal Aussie thing, but not sure if this was intentional on Max Monroe's part or not).
As we got to know Ollie more, damned if I wasn't falling right along with Lucky, because hell. What a charmer. I really and truly cannot wait to read his part of this story. I don't think it's going to be what we expect, and I think we're going to fall even more in love with him.
Now, as for Lucky, she was quite the funny female lead. She was relatable. And you know how important this can be for characters in a novel. Her podcast series was quirky as hell, and there are a tonne of quotes which I'm sure others will be noting in their reviews. I for one, was too busy devouring the hell out of this book to note any of them down. She also has some great ideas for Scoop and the letters for one, are awesome.
She's also not what she appears to be from first glance. The old saying of not judging a book by its cover. She has reasons (not so vain), for why she dresses the way she does, and I think they're really sweet. You'll know when you read this what I'm talking about.
Lucky and Ollie together make a really cute and easy couple, however there definitely needs to be more communication, and I'm intrigued to see how this plays out in the next part of this duet, as I feel that Ollie will be chasing that.
I loved experiencing some of the things these two did together, and I also enjoyed the fact that this wasn't solely focused on sex scenes and chemistry in that sense. I mean, sure there is a tonne of chemistry between them, but the little things, such as swimming (again, you will understand when you read this), were what made this for me.
I really need the next book, because this is one story I can't wait to finish out and see what happens with these two. Knowing Max Monroe, they'll throw us for a loop, and I can't wait for the ride!

Firstly, I don't usually much look at the covers, however this one looks like it should be the cover of a WHAM! Album (sorry Max and Monroe, but he gives off serious George Michael vibes)
I liked the writing style of this book - in the style of transcripts from a podcast.
There were a couple of things though that we were a bit ugh for me. Firstly, Ollie's age. It is not that him being 37 was a huge age difference between himself and Lucky - that doesn't bother me at all in any books. It was that to me he acted a lot, lot younger. There is no way that I felt that he was nearing 40. Also, the cover model just did not give off the Ollie vibe either.
Sparks fly between Ollie and Lucky - though not always the sexual kind. The banter between them made me laugh, made me frustrated, made me want this pair to fight it out - in or out of bed. Gah, I just love them so much, even when they are frustrating the crap out of me.
I absolutely devoured this book. It is full of typical Max Monroe humour. And being an Aussie myself, I loved that they got the Aussie slang right - thank you for that! And thank you for not having any Crocodile Dundee or Steve Irwin-isms thrown in just to prove how Aussie he is.
Lucky is very relatable. We have all gone through crappy break ups and given them a post mortem, trying to figure out what went wrong.
Now, what the heck was it with that ending! Gah! How could you do that to me, Max Monroe? How can you make me wait for Ollie's side of the story?
I need it. Right. This. Minute!

he Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks by Max Monroe is the first book in their fabulous Jerk duet. Told in singular POV from Lucky's POV this book is original in it's format and funny, angsty, honest, and the build up to the romance is perfectly paced.
Luciana "Lucky" Wright is a reporter for an online publication who gets wrangled into the "terrible" task of traveling the world with a surfing competition and writing articles and doing interviews surrounding this championship surfing event. When she meets the latest in a long line of Jerks in her life, none other than her best friends brother, she makes sure to avoid him as much as possible. After an awkward and recent breakup she is swearing off jerks all together. And Ollie Arsen is at the top of that list. Or is he... As the event progresses and they spend more time with each other, Lucky learns that she was hasty to judge him and that she judged him wrong. Or did she???
Book two in the duet continues the story after a dramatic turn of events at the end of book one, but takes over now from Ollie's POV. I'm a first time reader of this co-authoring duet and I am officially now a huge fan. I am so excited for book two, The Day the Jerk Started Falling. Enjoy!

Another brilliant Rom-Com from the dynamic duo Max Monroe! The beautiful and talented Lucky (Luciana) Wright is anything but lucky when it comes to love. She has a history of dating men who appear too good to be true, but end up being jerks. A series of disastrous relationships culminating in the most absurd breakup to date has her questioning her choice in men. It seems that the only men she’s attracted to are in fact jerks. Resolving to change her ways, she swears off jerks. The same day she undertakes a new path in life to rid herself of her bad habits she meets her best friends brother, Oliver Arsen. Ollie is an Aussie surf god who is confident, arrogant and seriously gorgeous. It turns out that Ollie might just be the biggest jerk of all. I can’t wait for book#2 in The Jerk Duet -The Day the Jerk Started Falling - to come out.

Unlucky Lucky is done falling for jerks...

Book 1 in the Jerk duet does not disappoint! Written in the form of a podcast, this is a different way to tell a story, but it worked for me! It took a couple chapters to really get into it, but I have to say, this was a great slow burn! Lucky is off to see the world, with help from her best friend’s brother Ollie, as part of a new writing assignment for her job as a journalist with the online magazine Scoop. Following the professional surfing circuit is exactly the break she needs after things end with yet another jerk ex-boyfriend. Of course, she finds herself falling for another jerk, perhaps the biggest one of all, Ollie. Book 1 ends at the midpoint of the story, with book 2 in this duet picking up where we left off, but this time from Ollie’s POV. I can’t wait to see how this story ends! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I really enjoyed this one! If you know me at all you know that I LOVE enemies to lovers and while Ollie and Lucky didn't start out as enemies per se, bad impressions were definitely made!
Lucky is completely unlucky when it comes to love. She's a jerk magnet and she's had enough! When she finds out her last relationship wasn't what it seemed she's depressed and ready to swear off love. That's when a dream assignment of sorts falls into her lap, courtesy of her best friend, Allie. Lucky is chosen to cover the surfing championships on a 6 month abroad assignment including exotic locals such as Bali and South Africa! The catch is, Lucky doesn't surf, she's more a fashion/lifestyles journalist, so Lucky has been chosen to give readers a glimpse at the sport through a novice's eye. The sponsor of the trip is Allie's Aussie brother, Ollie, who owns Surf Arsen, a major surfing enterprise! Lucky pegs Ollie right away...he's cocky and charismatic, insulting and infuriating, oh and extremely attractive...looks like a jerk, so Lucky vows to stay as far from Ollie as possible because she is done with jerks. But the more she gets to know him, the less Ollie seems like any of those things.
This is told by Lucky through a podcast style format and I LOVED it. It's a fresh take on storytelling that really worked for this story. I loved both the characters and I loved the self reflection Lucky does throughout...now we just have to see if she can apply what she's learned to this situation with Ollie! Definitely recommend, can't wait for Ollie's POV in the next book!

A fresh new take on a romance story!

Wow!
This was such a refreshing way to tell a love story.
Ollie, a past surfing god who has had his share of one night flings, and is sponsoring the surfing circuit.
Lucky, A woman who had been in so many crash and burn relationships it seems like she is unlucky in love. She is now swearing of jerks and has put herself in jerk rehab.
When another relationship crashes and burns, her friend pitches an idea to their boss that she should follow the surfing circuit and write articles for the web magazine she writes for.
Ollie, just happens to be her best friend's brother and is tasked at taking care of her.
As time goes by, she discovers that Ollie, maybe is not the jerk she thought he was and who she had sworn to swear off.
He helps her to overcome her fear of water and swimming.
When she gets sick, he stays with her for 20+ hours to make sure all is good.
He takes her to a fashion event of the season.
They start to fall for each other, but as luck would have it, the gods of love throw a big bag of baggage at both of them.
Max Monroe, have put a spin on this story that as always, causes you to get so wrapped up in the characters lives, that you may find yourself in trouble because you'll put your own life on hold to find out what is going on in their perfect little brains.
Love love love this duel writing team!
I am diving into the continuation of their story with enthusiasm and excitement to see how Ollie sees things through his eyes.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and I like that it surprised me. I really liked Lucky when I met her and my feelings for her never changed. Phew! But I must disagree with her- I didn’t think Ollie was a jerk. But I could see how from her point of view that he came across this way especially with her dating history.
I liked Lucky’s friendship with Jordy. It gave Lucky someone to relax and hang out with when she was away from home covering a surfing tour for her job as a journalist. And it gave her someone to distract her from Ollie when she was trying to figure out how she felt about him.
Of course a misunderstanding happens and Lucky heads back home earlier than planned so she can get some distance between her and Ollie. Things come to a head when she meets her best friend and coworker for dinner...and Ollie’s sister, and Ollie is joining them for dinner. Yelling ensues and they both say things in the heat of the moment, with a little truth thrown in, and Lucky runs out. The End.... literally! Thank god we don’t have to wait long for the rest. Only one week and then we get Ollie’s side of their relationship. I can’t wait and I am so excited to find out more about these two!
