Fair warning this story starts off with the awful truth about what Parker has been dealing with since her mother died and she was left in the care of her step father. Whilst not given to us in full detail the flashbacks, angst and trauma that Parker explains does touch your soul and is explained in a sensitive way and sends you on a journey to hopefully follow her to new beginnings. Her friendships were endearing and she definitely had strength of character which made me connect to her really well.

Ian introduction was good however there was something missing I could not put my finger on but he did come into his own towards the end of the story, perhaps I did not get really why he felt compelled to follow Parker as he was very much the alpha male to me.

The story did flow well however I did become frustrated that it did take forever for them to connect as such as they kept bumping into each other over a period and then bam we were on fast forward. I was finally glad they were together but then found their connection strained somewhat but then Parker had been running from Ian due to her issues. I felt the build up to their sexual encounter really believable in that Ian really took his time and did not pressure her, I had to keep reminding myself that she was 18 and he was 25.

I also knew the step father would come back into the storyline however I found the last half of the book so rushed in the different scenarios being played out and found myself saying what else is this author going to throw at poor Parker I mean really give the chick a break!

So I did enjoy this story, great romance reading with lots of twists and turns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stolen SLEEP because I couldn't put this book down to eat or sleep even...yes it is that GOOD 19 September 2015

WOW this book was Amazing and intense. It was a beautiful, heartwarming, and very inspiring love story about acceptance, strength, and survival.

Parker, the beautiful 18 year old, is running away from her past and especially from her stepfather Hank. Eww Hank is a horrible evil man. He has been evil ever since his wife, Parker's mother, died five years ago. The problem is everyone in the community likes and highly respects him. This ends up making it hard for Parker to tell anyone about the abuse in fear that nobody will believe her. So she decides to pack up and move to Portland for college. With her best friends Bridget and Ash in her corner Parker finds the strength to move forward. Parker very cute and clumsy like meets Ian Blake. Wow he is the perfect man in every way and is quickly attracted to her. But Parker, poor traumatized Parker, does not feel ready to trust any man although she is instantly attracted to Ian as well. Her inner demons keep her scared, untrusting, and jumpy causing strains on any personal relationship for her. Will Ian continue to pursue her? Or will Parker keep doing what she does when she is scared....run? And what about Hank...what will he do when he discovers Parker just ran off? This is a must read for so many good reasons. This book is very beautifully written, an amazing love story, and it is inspiring to see the strength of these characters. While reading this I felt so many deep emotions and yes I cried a few times but some of my crying were happy tears of joy and relief. I cheered, screamed many times, laughed often, and felt happy and quite jealous of Parker and Ian's bond. If only Ian had a brother I could marry ...lol

Writing about abuse is never easy, reading about is isn't either, but for survivors it's even more so. Knowing the taboo surrounding abuse, SM STRYKER takes on this daunting task and writes a wonderful story of survival, love, strength and endurance. AWESOME DEBUT NOVEL

This book is an emotional read. It will have you crying at the beginning but cheering at the end. Can't wait to read the others and if you know of someone being abused in any way speak up and be the voice that they need.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read 27 January 2016

I loved the way this story was told. Parker was an abused child and had a huge challenge to get through so she could freely be with Ian. Ian and his family were so understanding of Parker's situation. There was a twist I did not see coming at the end of this story which added to the suspense of the story. There is a strong message here also...victims of abuse need to keep talking until someone believes them. I highly recommend all of S.M. Stryker's books.

I enjoyed this book, however the editing was not very good. You are able to read it and understand but it definitely needs to be edited better but would definitely recommend. I loved there story and that he was so understanding and willing to be there for her and get to know her which i think helped grow there love.
