About the Author
Joy Ellis is the no. 1 best-selling author of the Jackman & Evans and DI Nikki Galena series, topping the Amazon Top 100 week to week. She began writing crime thrillers during a writer's retreat in the Greek Islands and hasn't looked back. Now a full-time writer, Joy and her partner, Jacqueline, a retired police officer, call the Lincolnshire Fens home, along with their two Springer spaniels. Inspired by the remoteness and airy beauty of the marshlands, Joy sets her crime thrillers in the misty fens, which lends itself so well to murder.

Another great offering from Joy Ellis with the Fen's team with DI Jackman and DS Marie Ellis. This time the plot involves theft of designer clothing, steroid smuggling and abduction with several bands of "Fagin" run teenagers. There is a sub-plot of an officer coming back to the station who has it in for Marie, which was very convincing. A terrific hard to put down read.

This had me staying up very late at night to finish as I couldn't wait to get to the end and find the guilty one.. I had guessed wrong who I thought it was.. I have read all Joy Ellis's books so far available on Amazon and this was just as good as any.. held me to the end in a thrilling book.. Hope there is more to come..

Most enjoyable reading with the reader kept immersed in developments until towards the end, when all is revealed.
Believable modern themes and interaction of characters resulted in a four star allocation.

This was a real page turner. An unusual plot combinjng up market clothing & smuggling. So many subplots that finally joined together in the final pages. Another one that was hard to put down.

Another good story and well written by Joy Ellis. The characters are excellent and believable.
I didn’t like the subject matter of the stolen, suffering boys. I felt quite upset that boys in the real world might be suffering like that.

Another thrilling story from Joy Ellis. This series is excellent, very ‘could happen in real life’ sort of storyline. Looking forward to the next in the series.

As the author wanted the reader to keep guessing - she did a good job. While it would not necessarily reveal the outcome, it would have helped if a little more description had been inserted towards the end of the story.

Another police procedural written to keep you awake. Like the idea of several often unrelated plots. The characters Townsend ,Evans etc are well developed
I like the Yorkshire area so these are even more fun and joyful to read

I was very pleased to see this latest book in the brilliant Jackman and Evans series released. This is book 5 in the series and while it does work as stand alone I would recommend you read book 4 first as the events in The Guilty Ones are relevant to this book.
Jackman and his team are still recovering from the mental and physical injuries inflicted by Ashcroft and are using a crime lull to recharge. Nothing much is happening apart from illegal steroids and a few break ins.
I love Jackman's team they all care about each other and each have their area of expertise that all adds together to make a very effective team. Nobody wants that to change so when an nemesis from Marie Evans' past looks like becoming the fly in the ointment the whole team are on guard to protect her.
Things in Saltern le fen were never going to remain quiet for long and when the body of a boy turns up murder investigation is back on the agenda as the team dive in to remove more criminals from the streets.
This is very much an emotional roller coaster of a book with abuse and people trafficking intermingled with other side stories it makes for a totally gripping read. I particularly loved the part played by Sheba the German Shepherd.
Very much a psychological thriller with twists, turns and shocks all the way through. An excellent read as I would expect from the phenomenal Joy Ellis. Scores on the doors - 5 golden stars from me.

Who on earth wrote all those positive reviews? It's probably those people who think Big Brother or Love Island are the best programmes on TV. What utter rubbish. Can you seriously believe a story can be built around a bunch of chavs stealing high designer clothes? Talk about a race to the bottom. Would write more but must go and collect my shell suit from the cleaners.

This is the first book by this author I have read but it did work as a stand-alone story. I had difficulty believing the prices paid for this clothing and the re-sell market for this age group and their relationship with the mastermind. Despite containing translations for American readers, Americanisms were scattered through the book - "Detectives" (when addressing a group of them); "gotten", etc. When reading an America-based book it is fine, but it jars in a British book. And the use of "WPC'? Outdated by many years, surely?? But despite these annoyances, a fair read.

Stop puffing out your cheeks!

Firstly let me say that I am a big Joy Ellis fan. I love the Jackman series (and the Fens series).
Surprisingly, there were some errors - a few missing words in this story, and I am always niggled with the over-use of - she/he puffed out their cheeks - in all of Joy's books. It bothers me to the point of telling my husband each time I read that phrase.
Back to the positives.... Joy is a great story teller, her books have believable characters and good plot twists. I eagerly await her next book.
