Compete with friends and players around the world in WordPlay using only wits and your words! WordPlay is a brand new game-show-like experience for Alexa!
Your task is to solve the hidden five letter words, with only the first (or first few) letters given to you. With each guess Alexa will tell you how close you are - which letters were right, which were wrong, and which ones were misplaced.
In our single player challenge, you need to solve as many words as possible before you run of of lives. Single player starts out a little easier, with three letters per word, but ramps up quickly. As you progress through the game you will earn more lives and even special powerups to help you along the way. If you can make it to the top 100 scorers, you will earn bragging rights and be able to enter the Word Play leaderboard! Check out the leaderboard at http://stokedskills.com/wordplay/leaderboard.html and try to beat your friends!
In our multiplayer mode you can compete head to head with your friends and family. You will be taking turns solving words - every three incorrect guesses play will pass on to the next player. If a word you've seen comes back to you, you have the option to skip that word, or continue playing it again. First to three is the winner!!!
Here are some tips to help you out:
1. If you are stuck thinking you can ask for more time during a guess. This will play our theme song while you can have a little longer to think. If you are playing with friends who take too long, you can decide between yourselves how many 'more time's to allow.
2. If you forget the last guess you can always say "repeat last guess" and Alexa will repeat your last guessed word, and which letters were correct. She will also write out all your previous guesses to the Alexa App.
3. Writing your guesses down in single player is not cheating! You can write down your guesses to help you make the most informed next guesses. That's part of the fun. When you play multiplayer however you'll have to stick to your house rules! (Some fun ways to play can be to limit or not use 'more time' at all, to prevent players from writing down guesses or looking up words, or you can allow the use of phones)
4. If you have a big family try playing in teams! Just don't give out any clues too loud in case the word gets passed over to the other team.
5. Make sure to save your powerups for when you really need them!
-----Power Ups----- (Only available in single player mode) Word Wipe: Wipe a tough word away and replace it with a new one Vowel Volcano: Bring forth all the vowels in your word and their locations Lucky Letter: Reveal a random letter in the word that you have not guessed yet

I really enjoy this skill. I like that it's so challenging, and addictive! What I don't like is that I have a hearing loss which makes it hard for me to hear certain letters like s, f, v, b, m, n, and so on. This has cost me guesses and even lives during the game. It would help me and probably others as well, if you would include the phonetic after the letter, especially on the first letter of the word. For example "f foxtrot". Thanks for reading and keep up the good work!
Played this in single player mode, as well as group mode. In group mode, it's a very fun party game. It works best if you use a pen/paper (or other means) to keep track of your guesses, particularly when working with a team. We liked that the words that are used are all fairly common, so you don't have to know obscure words. Playing in single player mode is addictive, trying to keep from running out of lives to keep going. As others have stated, there are occasional limitations with Alexa's ability to hear and understand the letters that are said, and understanding if Alexa says "B" or "V" or "D" can be difficult. I like the suggestion of using the mlitary type spelling (F-Foxtrot, E-Echo, etc). Maybe that can be an option. Also, I like the suggestion to remove/lower the music when "More Time" is asked, so that you can think without the music. Maybe let the person ask for a specific amount of time, ranging from 10 to 60 seconds, or something like that.
But even with these limitations, this is a very fun and mentally challenging game that we love. Keep up the great work!
This is the least favorite game I've played on my Alexa so far. I've only played the one-player game, so maybe it's different with multiple players. Alexa gives you three letters of a five letter word and you have to guess what the rest of the letters are. Even though you might come up with a couple of legitimate words, you get a loser/buzz sound if it's not the exact word she happens to be thinking of. You have to read her "mind" as far as which particular word it is, and there are no hints as to what category it might fall into. Sometimes she will tell you which letters were incorrect, other times she'll just keep asking you what the word is. At the end, you never do find out what the word was. It's hard to know sometimes what you're supposed to do. I played this twice; I won't be playing it again.
Sometimes it's hard to hear if Alexa says "D" or "V" when she starts a word. And she can't always hear what letters we are trying to say. But for the most part, this is a very fun and rewarding game! I like that we can pause the game and come back and play after we've thought about the possibilities first. We found single player to move faster and be more fun than multiplayer. We still play together, but more like on the same team.
4.0 out of 5 starsFun and addictive but needs a few adjustments

periodically messes up what letters are in word, making it impossible to get answer. Needs to give more time to think before asking for an answer or "more time". Either eliminate the music while in "more time" mode, or at least reduce its volume due to its distracting nature.
LOVE the game tho ..... stimulates your Brain, and is fun to play with a group.
