I fell in love with Jennifer Ryderâ(tm)s Spark Series back in August 2014â¦. I read the first three within a few daysâ¦.. and just couldnâ(tm)t get enough of this series. Ms Ryderâ(tm)s writing is clear and to the pointâ¦.. you feel as though you are there with the characters and they are HOT HOT HOTâ¦â¦ this has definitely not changed with this latest bookâ¦â¦ which I read within a day and loved every minute of itâ¦..

We met Detective Ryan in Strike and he is one HOT Detectiveâ¦. I like to call him Detective HOTTIE!!!!!!..... Ryan Clark goes undercover and heads to the other side of Australia to work in the beautiful coastal port city of Fremantle where he is trying to bust one of the countryâ(tm)s most dangerous drug syndicate.

Ryan heads into a local coffee shop and meets the beautiful âaeblondeâ who owns the place called Willowâ¦.. they both feel an instant connection but Willow, who is currently in WITSEC, tries to keep her distance from Ryan.

Willow runs her café with her friend Gabby and has for the past 2 years..

Ryan calls Willow âaeBlondieâ whereas she callâ(tm)s Ryan âaeMr Sexy-Brown-Eyesâ even after they find out each others names they still use these for each other..

The interaction and love between these two characters is HOTâ¦.. I will never look at lemon meringue pie the sameâ¦..I loved the fact that Willow is an indie author girl at heart with having âaeWelcome to Sugartownâ in her bookcase... ( I also love Carmen Jennerâ(tm)s books)â¦.

I had tears in my eyes when Ryan got shot twice and it was touch and go there for a while if he would make it throughâ¦.

Loved it. Ryan is sweet and just the right medicine for Willow.
Gabs is a stunning secondary character who made me laugh. Willow is careful where she places her trust, but has good reason.
A nice read.

Wow – after the rollercoaster that was Strike – I really had to psych myself into this one because I knew this was going to be a tough one and I wasn’t wrong.
Ryan. To be honest, this book was the one that got me to read the whole series. I do love a good cop book. The winning formula of this series where commitment fearing bad boy meets complicated woman who doesn’t want to jump his bones is really paying off.
Ryan has met his match. The one woman on the planet who doesn’t try to bed him within minutes of meeting him and now he’s in uncharted territory. His personality has to actually win her over rather than his charms. I was instantly intrigued by Willow. I wanted to know her story. While reading it – there was an ever present sense of doom. It’s not overpowering in the story but there’s a sense of it throughout.
What I love about Ms Ryder’s writing is her characters. To me, they are very much Wizard of Oz worthy – ‘you always had the power’, meaning they had this within them all along - they just needed the right person to ignite the spark to grow into their own better selves. As I was reading, I’m thinking he’s going to have his work cut out for him to come clean to someone now who has trust issues. How are they going to recover from the lies and omissions?
There are two very powerful scenes in this book that took my breath away. They pained my heart. The first is where Willow finally has to rely on Gab. Oh the tears. Just when I recovered from that - Holy mother of God! There is a passage in this book that mirrors a situation in my life and then came on the water works again. Cut a bit too close to a personal story of mine.
Ryder certainly has the gift of writing second chance at character redemption. Each of her characters are flawed to perfection. Have thoroughly enjoyed this series and cannot wait for the next installment.
