The Rival 500 is the first MOBA/MMO mouse designed to function with the natural movements of your hand. The side button layout is engineered to the natural contours of your thumb to react accurately and fluidly.

Great build quality, great weight (though I prefer a slightly heavier mouse as I use high DPI so I want accuracy of movement and no twitching)
One of very few good mice with a number of buttons exceeding 12. I fell in love with the wheel tilt click on my previous Logi and Roccat mice and needed a new one, but I hate Logi software and drivers, so I was considering this vs the Roccat Nyon
Great number of buttons lets me bind a lot of stuff to the mouse
Great button placement, even the one behind the thumb rest which could potentially be a pain is actually great to push by rolling back your thumb
The ring of thumb buttons are slightly too stiff and mean that pushing them will tend to move your mouse right, but that's a tradeoff, much easier to hit and you'd be hitting them accidentally a lot more. Ironically, the ones on the thumb rest you push down on could be more stiff, as hitting these won't move your cursor and they're relatively easy to hit accidentally
Software isn't perfect but it's miles better than Logitech's, it doesn't have the most customisation but offers probably the best useability. All the stuff you need is there.
Doesn't forget colour settings like Logitech's, profiles switch quickly and flawlessly, which was always an issue with Roccat and Razer, doesn't make you create an account like Razer does for EVERYTHING
Tactile feedback is a great idea, should be in far more mice. I don't find myself using it much but the implementation is good. I find it best used for shorter cooldown effects (6s to a minute) that you always want to use ASAP, otherwise you wouldn't have bound it to your mouse buttons
Offers a perfect balance between classic Naga/MMO style mice (where I always find I have nowhere to rest my thumb) and
Only downside is that those few who like to maintain finger/thumb contact with both mouse and mat (high DPI settings and therefore need precise, very small movements) won't be able to unless you have gigantic hands because the thumb rest will always be in your way (and there are buttons on it, although you can lock these down)
Encourages a grip that maintains some form of palm contact as anywhere you would be holding the mouse with your fingertips is almost guaranteed to be on a button, potentially leading to misclicks when moving the mouse
Good scrollwheel with clear segmentation on scrolling - I dislike when a scrollwheel is loose and you can't tell whether you've done 1 step or 3. It's also sturdy which is important when your mousewheel has tilt left and right functionality. Roccat are widely considered to make the best scrollwheels and I do prefer theirs, but only just
Well 2 years later or so I own a M750 keyboard, a H Wireless headset and 3 Rival 500's (yes 3... Home, Offcie and one for Laptop) and I still have my Sensi Wireless around somewhere which is in perfect working order.
Am I am fan boy? No not so much, their support, or at least my experience of their support has been pretty damn shocking to say the least, but eventually I ended up with a full refund for my M800 which died and a free £300 store credit to buy what to wanted to replace it as way of apology.
So why 5 Stars? I am rating the prodcut more than the support and for me this is the most comfortable mouse I have every used by far, the bottom buttons on the side act as a thumb rest even without the lock which helps a lot and the button layout is just supert.
I don't MMO which I think tihs mouse is wrongly marteted at or though maybe it 'also should be' for me they should do one without the lights and market it as a productivitly mouse, then map the 3 lower side buttons to CUT, COPY and PASTE, for someone who does a lot of copying and pasting this mouse is a god send!
Could they improve it? IMO Yes, they could release a BT Version with or without the lights for Tablets & Laptops and whoever else may feel the need to go wireless, for me it would be like the Sensi Wireless and contain it's own battery and be charrgable &\or usable using a standard USB charge cable, would wouldn't want have to carry the sensi wireless bas station around with you for example!
If I'm being honest it hasn't let me down yet and runs very well so far when gaming not to mention they regularly update the software on it so iI haven't a bad word to say about steel series products at all.
The well placed buttons and RGB lighting on it make it well worth the money i payed for it by far the nicest mouse I've ever used and seen. Id maybe give the rival 500 a go if you are into MMO's and any game for that matter i use it for everything.
There is basically no support for games other than CS:GO which is very sad, as it effects all steelseries products. It would be great if games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends etc had the built-in support so when abilities came off cooldown your mouse vibrated etc.
Other than that, the mouse is great, good weight and feel.
- good shape
- good sensor
- good software
- Mouse wheel can stop between two position. Cheap mice do this, shame...
- It's too hard to press cetain buttons.
The tactile feedback is also not so great due to it working on a limited number of games and having no mainstream support.
