Unfortunately there was a significant flaw in the stitching on the tracking surface, about 3/4 of the way up from the bottom. I know it's not an expensive mousepad, and it feels good other than the flaw on the tracking surface. I will probably try to order another one in the future and hope it arrives without the same flaw. (edit: or not ... read on for update)
UPDATE: Less than one month has passed since this was delivered to me, and the only edge of the mousepad that I was able to use as the bottom edge (thanks to the stitching flaw) is now rolling up. I've been PC gaming for over 20 years and never seen even the cheapest and crappiest of mouse pads come apart so quickly. Changing my review from 3 stars to 2 stars. It felt good for a few weeks but it seems the Quality is sorely lacking.
Conclusion: with the fact that I have to wait a WHOLE MONTH to start using this mat, I took off 2 stars for that. I actually wouldn't mind paying more for a higher quality mat without any kind of smell. Of course, your mat may not smell at all or you may not be as sensitive to the rubber smell as I am, so take it with a grain of salt.
I am requesting a replacement and I'd rather not have to waste time dropping this off at a UPS store for the trouble.
I then threw it in the microwave for 30-ish seconds until it was scalding, pressed it under even more weight, (at least 20 lbs), and still, it won't sit flat. I've even rotated it once every 4 days for the full 5 months I've had it, hoping that make sure each side was flattened for equal amounts of time under the mouse, and the side pressed flat by my usage simply curled back into its original shape, every time I switched to a new side.
The curl isn't just an esthetic issue. My mouse doesn't respond well when it hits any of the mouse that refuses to touch the desk, and due to how it was rolled up, that's the vast majority, save for the 4 inch by 4 inch corner I've flattened down the last few days. That wouldn't be as big a deal if I had bought a 4" X 4" mouse pad. But I bought a 12.5" X 11.5" mouse pad.
I'm done with Steelseries. They ripped me off with their awful Merc Stealth keyboard, and they ripped me off with their curled up mouse pad.
Avoid this pad if you're serious about gaming, or have a lot you need your mouse for, because it's just a headache to use.
The lower surface is rubbery and will not slip over any kind of table material ( Metal . glass , wood , plastic) , so you will not have any problems with slippage.
The mouse movement over it is so smooth and slick , I used multiple mice with it ( Logitech G403 Prodigy, G700 and smaller mice, Microsoft , etc...) and the speed and accuracy are amazing, the surface cloth produce enough friction to feel resistance, but not too much to feel rough.
I feel after a few months of use that its thickness is not as in the past, am not sure if it is just a feeling or real, but the comfort isn't changed a bit.
Will definitely recommend
