Format: Kindle Edition
Please ignore the other comments indicating this Kindle edition is NOT the same as hard copy version. Although that is somewhat true, i.e. it is not exactly the same, it is in fact BETTER than the hard copy version.

The Kindle version actually contains THREE BOOKS (for the price of one :-), which combine and present the information in the hard copy version in a way targeted to three different audiences (and all the audiences as well).

The first book is "The Startup Owner's Guide: Strategy Guide" This gives an overview of the reasoning behind this approach, why the previous way doesn't work, and the Lean Startup and Customer Development approach itself. It is suited for managers etc.

The second book is "The Startup Owner's Manual for Web/Mobile Channel Startups" This is the detailed guide with checklists for startups and organisations aiming to commercialise a Web or mobile product or service.

The third book is "The Startup Owner's Manual for Physical Channels" This is the detailed guide with checklists for startups and organisations aiming to commercialise a product or service using physical channels.

If anything the hard copy version is the lesser of the two versions. It tries to combine all three of the above books into one. I am not complaining but just suggesting people consider the Kindle format first and foremost.

This is the best A$10 anyone interested in commercialising innovation (in a startup or organisation of any size) can spend. Of course, just buying the book won't solve all your problems, you have to work to put it into practice.

And as for this being a "business book" light on details, I think it is quite the opposite.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT the same as TSOM! 10 September 2013
By Jessica - Published on Amazon.com

The kindle version of this is NOT the same as The Startup Owner's Manual! Instead you get the Startup Owner's Strategy Guide, which is a very condensed version. I bought this for a class and was super frustrated to find that it wasn't the same as the original hardcover book. I am going to try to get a refund because it's not what was advertised to me. Ugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for startup founders. Great book for product development or product management. 12 May 2017

This is a great book for anyone who is interested to do a startup.

I will strongly suggest that the reader to follow the instruction of the author to use this as a reference book instead of rushing through the content.

Apart from startup founders, I find this book to be very useful for product development as well.

The author has lay out the process for the reader to follow. Normally, I will not follow strictly on the instructions of a book. This is the few books that is an exception. The general direction is great.

Do not expect specific step by step instruction for each process. You will need to do your own analysis for your project. Such as the questions to ask so that you can validate a problem or solution.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars! SIX STARS if they fix the formatting! 2 June 2017
By Michael - Published on Amazon.com

This is an incredible resource for how to get a startup up and running. I've been searching for a how-to guide for years and this was the first that gave a complete roadmap (and many, many, many checklists!). It is information heavy, much like a textbook. And it won't handhold you through certain sections, assuming you have an understanding of basic business practices, management, leadership, securing financing, marketing, etc. But it will show you when and how differently you may implement those tools within the startup timeline.

Unfortunately I have to knock it for half a star because of one nagging issue: the publishers did a bad job with the formatting in the book, and that could make it a difficult read -- or at least awkward -- despite the trove of information it contains. It's like someone who designed PowerPoint presentations for a living decided to layout a book that way. So there are a lot of bullets where there could be a different style of callout and the headers for sections aren't consistent. For instance, the author mentions a list of four elements he'll review in more detail. Then each element will have it's own titled paragraph/passage that isn't numbered. But then the next passage after all four has the same style also--wait, is that five elements? Let me go back and check... For an already info heavy book, it makes for awkward reading. Also, I'm not a fan of the switching to semi-bold, san-serif type when mentioning elements solely for digital, but with a black and white book, you can't do something like change the page color.

If v2 of this book was in color, with better and consistent formatting, sidebars for interesting facts, and different page colors to differentiate between, physical, digital, physical/digital, I'd give it SIX STARS!

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading product information for Kindle version 13 December 2013
By James Britt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Misleading product information for Kindle version. If you buy the Kindle version you do not get the book shown. You get a different (albeit related) book, "The Startup Owner's Manual Strategy Guide".

I feel sort of bad leaving such a low-star rating but people looking for the Kindle version need to something to alert them.

Great book, I recommend to anyone looking to start up a business. I read this prior to starting up my LLC and it answered most of my questions, but not all.
