Liz Matthews agrees to a blind date for her daughter’s wedding with only one goal in mind- making her ex-husband jealous. The plan works, but also backfires as she finds herself enjoying the company of her younger date.

Widower Bennett Grayson has his hands full enough adapting to single parenthood of a teenage son and has no intention of falling in love again. When a friend arranges a blind date, Ben reluctantly accepts as a favor to his friend, but gets more than he bargained as the funny and charming divorcee catches his eye.

Brandt Matthews has much to atone for in life, starting with his daughter and his ex-wife. In spite of their troubled marriage, the one constant for Brandt has been Liz, until a new man in her life makes him realize how much he stands to lose- or has already lost.

As Liz and Ben embark on a new adventure called dating, they are faced with a host of challenges, including the ghosts of the past and Ben’s son Landon, who wants nothing to do with his father’s new girlfriend. Can they overcome the obstacles and start a new life together, or will Liz succumb to Brandt’s charms again?

A Truly heartfelt second chance story. I think people forget that more mature people want to find love again, another soulmate, another chance at life & YES still have sex. What's even better the unlikelihood of getting pregnant. Huge odds there esp. in this age bracket. Of course there's STDs but seriously?

So onto the story. I can totally relate to Liz well rounded (not size wise) all except for that tie to her ex ew ew can't stand those older, "think I'm gods gift to every woman" type male. You got what you deserved big time mister. All those self doubts later surfacing, something you screwed up thanks to not keeping it in yr pants. Sorry I hate these type of men. I've had my rant.

Ben oh Ben what can I say wish there was more men like you out there. Ok maybe the instant sex thing was a bit much but hey it's a story. Glad Landon came round & Chelsea a mini mum there. Great friends too making this a good all round story.

Yeah give it go maybe this review is a bit confusing but I liked I wanted to get my feelings out there. Reviews aren't always about telling the whole story, to me it's how you relate to it. I found it inspiring giving this age group a go, not your younger 30 something & below age group, not that I mind those stories can be great however 50+ is the new 30 wait till you get to,this age group & see how you feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars My faith is restored! 10 December 2014
By Brian's Mom - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Before I start my review let me just say that I have a new author that is an auto buy for me. I can honestly say that Ms. Shriver has restored my faith in contemporary romance. You don’t need graphic sex, a lot of angst to make a good book shine. Instead you have a very real story about finding love again after divorce and death. The bonus and I think the best thing about the book is that the characters are older. Like in the late 40’s and early 50’s.
They have lived their lives, raised children and have careers. There is no BS between them, just honest feelings and emotions that come to the surface that they haven’t had in a very long time. Not to mention that they have children to think about, too. How would a relationship affect them in the long run? Especially Ben’s son Landon. Gosh, I love that kid. Honest and real with his emotions and thoughts. I will say that the baseball game scene was perfection. Loved the arguing about the best player for the Sox. :)
Another awesome thing about Ben and Liz is that these two were hot for each other from the start. I didn’t expect that scene in the kitchen. Smexy and perfect for them. Plus, it was refreshing to know that Ben and Liz were honest with their feelings and emotions after their first time. ;) Awkward doesn’t even describe it. *giggle*
Chelsa, Liz’s daughter, is a true supporting character in the book. I need to read her book because it would give me a better understand of her animosity towards her father. Brandt was a true piece of work when it came to Liz. Talk about someone who wouldn’t let go. Liz was just as much at fault but I thought Brandt proved to me that sometimes ex’s are douchebags. And not just to Liz but to everyone around him.
I could go on and on about Liz and Ben. They were so perfectly written for me that again, my faith in straight, sensual contemporary is restored. Thank you Ms. Shriver and I can’t wait to read more of your work.

*I received this book for my honest opinion. I wasn't paid for my review.*

5.0 out of 5 stars True love is worth fighting for. 29 December 2014

This is the second book I have read from Michele Shriver. The first book I read of hers was The Art of Love. I absolutely adored it. And now Michele gives us another fantastic story. She wrote Liz Matthews’s story, Chelsea’s mom from The Art of Love. I loved Liz in the first book and was thrilled she wrote another book that happens right after The Art of Love.
Liz has everything she’s ever wanted. Well... everything except love. She divorced her ex when her daughter was a small child and threw herself into work. Only problem is she still has feelings for her playboy ex Brandt Matthews after all these years.

So, what happens when your only child is getting married? You let your friends set you up on a blind date of course.

I absolutely loved the chemistry between Liz and Ben from the first moment they met. They both kept the other at arm’s length and played the hot and heavy couple to a tee.

Liz Matthews is a very strong willed woman who didn’t realize how much she missed being spoiled and fussed over by a man. And the fact the man was seven years younger than her bothered her at first. Watching Liz work though if she could handle a relationship was great. What would any of us do if the person who wants to date us recently lost his wife and has a 16 year old son who does not like us that much?

Bennett ‘Ben’ Grayson is one sexy man. He is successful, sweet, and knows how to treat a won. The only problem is he recently lost his wife and doesn’t want to move on past her death. He feels he cannot love again after her. And his son keeps reminding him of that.

That is until he meets Liz and she throws his entire world for a loop. Ben realizes he has been living in a fog and wants to be with the person who makes him feel whole again, Liz.

This story is well written and filled with love, loss, and finding true love again. It had my heart swelling as I read. Yes, there are bumps along the way but what good story doesn’t. You can tell Michele put her heart into this book.

It is a must read.

I cannot wait to read Landon's story, though I think this next book my have me sniffling some.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another hit! 10 December 2014

The thing I love about this author is the way she takes real issues that I feel like could happen to any person I know and turns them into a compelling story. Liz is a character that I really enjoyed. She might be over 50, but that doesn’t mean she’s out of the dating market or doesn’t deserve true love! Now, if only her new beau’s son would be just as happy about the budding relationship as Liz’s daughter, Chelsea is.

I loved watching the relationship develop from a simple blind date into something that may help Liz get over her ex-husband (who she’s always loved, even if he didn’t deserve it) and help Ben realize there is life after love. Now, if the two of them can just work out the details and learn to trust, we might have something to celebrate.

I cheered for these two throughout, hoping they could both overcome their problems to find the happily ever after they so deserve! Another great story! 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy and Mature - Both the book and heroine 13 December 2014
By Patti Ann - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I've been a fan of Michele Shriver's writing since reading After Ten, which I would call contemporary women's fiction. I love all of Michele's work, but I was particularly taken by this story because Liz, the plucky hero, is closer to my age and faces singledom as a vibrant woman in her fifties.

Liz faces the same dilemmas all women face as she grows older, but Michele does not wallow in the pity party of analyzing wrinkles, weight gain, and gravity pulls. Instead she emphasizes the beauty of the mature woman--beauty gained from living and learning and loving. Those things can't be bottled by Oil of Olay or shot up in a botox treatment. Liz may have lived a few decades, but it has only enhanced her inner glow and aroused her passions to new heights.

When her new man comes for dinner the first time, the action in the kitchen both astounded me and gave me ideas! It's refreshing to see a woman of Liz's age still passionate about both her cooking and her sexual appetite.

Even though Liz has gained wisdom through her years of raising a daughter and divorcing the father, she still has many things to learn about love, and Michele Shriver takes us on that journey with her. It's a lovely ride filled with bumps, love, sensuality, and humor. No matter your age, you'll enjoy Liz and cheer for her ultimate success as a woman who has many more years left to enjoy what she's learned.

Age is merely a number attached to our legal documents. It has nothing to do with how attractive we are or what we've achieved. Liz defies definition by her age, and that's a good lesson for us all to learn. I thank Michele for creating such a well-rounded and passionate woman.
Love never gets old nor does a little spiciness in the kitchen.

I was given an advanced review copy in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never too old for a shot at love! 23 December 2014
By Storm - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
It all started with a little plan to make her ex jealous. Who knew that something so much more would come out of it? Certainly not Liz, and definitely not Bennett, aka Ben.

Liz just wants to jab at her ex a little at her daughter's wedding. She's got a very complicated history with her ex, and things are very crazy at times. Her friends set her up with a guy they know and things go very differently from there.

Ben is a widower and he still struggles to this day with the loss of his wife. It doesn't help that his teenage son is grieving as well and they don't always know how to deal with it alone, or even together.

To both of their surprise, Liz and Ben hit it off rather well. Their friendship quickly turns to more, but is either one ready for something more?

Starting Over is a perfect title for the story. Liz and Ben are much older than the hero and heroines I read about lately, and it's a very welcome change! Don't let their age stop you from reading this heartwarming, emotionally engaging story because you will be missing so much. This story is real. And by real I mean it's very easy to relate to the characters and their situations. Full of complexity, Starting Over hooked me from the start and kept me emotionally invested the entire duration of the book. Michele Shriver is a fantastic author who writes realistic and wonderful characters. Starting Over is well written and I highly recommend it to all!
