Product Description

Book Two of the Starship Quest series. As recounted in Book One, Starship Home, the Slarn, who left Earth millennia ago when their civilization was under threat from the last Ice Age, have turned slavers and have returned with a vast starship armada and abducted most of their home planet’s population. Their starships are piloted through the river of SpaceTime by people with the rare talent to do so, cyborg slaves whose bodies have been stripped from them and their minds integrated with the starships themselves. One such is Guinevere, a young English woman born in the time of Henry VIII and abducted by the Slarn on an earlier raid. When the slaving armada completed its mission and emerged from SpaceTime, it came under attack by hostile aliens and in the ensuing battle Guinevere suffered damage and was left behind. All but four of her prisoners were evacuated in escape pods for later retrieval. The four who remained were Harold, a 13-year-old computer nerd, Zoe a 15-year-old sport fanatic, Zachary a drifter whose current temporary job was school bus driver, and Meg Henderson who was born to rule, played polo and taught English and History to Harold and Zoe at Dalrymple Ponds High School. Instructed by Guinevere this mismatched four jury-rigged repairs and Guinevere leapt back to Earth. But in her enfeebled state she miscalculated and they arrived 90 years after the raid, finding that the loss of population had resulted in a loss of technology and a descent into barbarism. Descendants of an outlaw biker gang were now a horse-riding warrior caste, there was a matriarchal society of forest dwellers and there were cannibals in the forests and fierce horse nomads on the plains. In a race against time, Harold, Zoe, Zachary and Meg Henderson had not only to learn how to survive but also repair the Starship Guinevere with available materials before she self-destructed and devastated the homeland of their new friends (and enemies). Don Robert, warlord chieftain of the bikers-turned-aristocrats has fallen heavily for Meg and she stays on Earth to marry him while Guinevere takes the other three on a search for their abducted families. In the process, they discover the evil of the Slarns’ slavery-based economy and league with the mysterious Elder Races to free the slaves and prepare the galaxy to meet the threat of an invasion from beyond.

This second book in the Starship Quest series is every bit as good as the first. It's totally action-packed, full of unexpected twists and turns - and funny, too. Everything you want in a book. Highly recommended.
