overall doesn't seem totally stable when used 24/7. probably if you connect / disconnect it everyday, that gives it the resets it needs to be reliable. if your laptop stays put, this unit won't make you happy
It did not: charge the laptop, and it did not run a wireless keyboard+mouse. When I attached a dongle for a standard Microsoft keyboard and mouse it crashed several times, and then when it worked it was on a terrible 10 second delay (dongle works fine directly in laptop).
Charging a laptop like this normally uses a pretty stout power supply (about 80 watts), so it was not a big surprise that it didn't work. The USB-C stuff tends to max out at 60 watts. But in order to replace a dock I need a single point of connection to the laptop (where USB-C will be great, some day). Instead I will try a Lenovo brand USB-C dock (about $150).
The StarTech does not come with a power supply, so you have to try to figure out a suitable one, that is higher capacity than most USB 3.0 stuff.
I got this RND charger: B01K3569RO, and a USB-C to C cable to connect the RND charger to the StarTech DC-IN port.
