I came to this as a lover of Knights of the Old Republic. I remember casing my local games store for months in the lead up to its release (which if I remember correctly, was delayed in Australia) and frustrating the hell out of the owner. I’d read previews, I was starting to see reviews, and everything was saying exactly what I hoped for - this was the chance to be a part of the Star Wars universe. The game didn’t disappoint and remains to this day one of only two games I’ve ever played from start to finish back-to-back.
This book provides a wonderful and heartening tour of its creation and the love and hope that was necessary to make a Star Wars game that would endure with its own legacy.
If you like reading about how things come to be, and you’re a fan of KotOR, then this is a must read.

Set an even longer time ago in a galaxy far, far away, BioWare's 2003 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic wowed players with its compelling characters, lightsaber customization, complex morality choices, and one of the greatest plot twists in both video game and Star Wars history. But even for veteran studios like LucasArts and BioWare, the responsibility of making both a great game and a lasting contribution to the Star Wars canon was no easy task.
Featuring extensive new interviews with a host of KotOR's producers, writers, designers, and actors, journalist Alex Kane weaves together an epic oral history of this classic game, from its roots in tabletop role-playing and comic books, to its continued influence on big-screen Star Wars films. Whether you align with the light or the dark side, you're invited to dive into this in-depth journey through one of the most beloved Star Wars titles of all time.

KOTOR 5/5
Reviewed in the United States on 2 July 2019Verified Purchase
I played KOTOR so much as a kid growing up. It left an impact on me forever, so of course I'm going to pick up this book and love it. My only complaint about this book is that it isn't longer.

Backstory and facts on the original KOTOR game
Reviewed in the United States on 25 September 2020Verified Purchase
For those of you who loved the original Old Republic-era game entitled Knights of the Old Republic by LucasArts (before the Disney era), this could be your book. The facts and making-of process are all in here, though for those of you who wanted photos and concept art you won't find it here. But the story behind one of the defining games of our generation is the best part. I'm giving this four out of five stars because I wanted some concept art and lore about the game and how the characters worked with each other. And maybe a game credits section that details all of the people involved in the game. It's also a quick read. Neat book.
