Product Description

Island Chaptal—nerdy IT engineer by day, romance novel junkie by night—just walked into her messy New York apartment to find Mr. Right waiting for her. No, wait…Mr. Clean.

A gentleman professional killer with a bad case of OCD and zero tolerance for unsorted laundry, March isn’t there to kill her…yet. He wants the diamond her late mother stole for a sinister criminal organization. Island agrees to help him find it, facing the kind of adversaries who dismember first and ask questions later. Good thing she’s got March to show her the ropes. And the guns. And the knives.

The buttoned-up Island is soon having a blast racing from Paris to Tokyo following the clues in her mother’s will, and for the first time, she’s ready to get close to someone. But falling for a hit man may be the very definition of loving dangerously.

Spotless marks the beginning of Island and March’s ongoing adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars knocked my socks off 28 May 2015

I went into this with pretty low expectations. Hitman rom/com stories are not my usual genre. Also, while I liked the cover a lot, these cartoony type covers never fail to draw me in and then disappoint me so I did not have much hope this would be any different. Then there was the story itself --- as intriguing as the characters and mystery plot sounded, I wondered how this would even work. Hero with cleanliness OCD problem doesn't seem capable of handling hitman gore nor a romantic entanglement.

As it turned out, this story hit every point for me. There was an intelligent mystery to solve. Action. Humor. The gravity in the story was so believable and did not involve someone royally screwing up and hitting rock bottom as many comedies seem to do. Just the eventual revelation of the different relationships and consequences of choices made. Pacing was flawless. The OCD problem was portrayed at a level where the hero was still functional and added both humor and gravity to the story. No idea how realistic it all was but it didn't set off any major plot hole alarms in my head. The budding romance was probably PG13 at most --- and really says something about the author's skill to be able to charm us with a romance that made us feel their connection without needing any overt smut. I was totally invested in the characters --- both were likable and complex --- as much a mystery themselves as the mystery they were trying to unravel.

I am not sure if I loved this so much because it was so unexpected or if it was just that good. Either way, I can say that it has been quite a while since a story made such an impact on me. I was on the edge of my seat during the action. I puzzled over the mystery. I laughed. I cried. I literally could not put it down. My only disappointment is that I found this series at its beginning and now have to wait for the rest to be written.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious comedic thriller but not a romance 7 June 2015
By JLW - Published on Amazon.com

This is a laugh out loud story of a wall flower who is kidnapped into an adventure by a clean freak assassin. I loved her inner thoughts and how the author didn't make her totally helpless (she is fluent in quite a few languages and is quickly able to figure clues). I kind of thought her computer skills would come into play, but no such luck. The assassin, March is a mystery, even at the end of the book - but you realize that he is a good guy and has honor. Definitely one of the more unique heroes I've had the pleasure of reading about - he has OCD, is controlling, but not some lust filled alpha jerk.

One of the things that makes this book so special is how the author pokes fun at all the romantic trope out there - it's a joke I never thought got old and I hope she continues using it in book 2.

This brings me to the critical part of the review and it's kind of spoilerish, so stop reading if you don't want to know what to expect in the book:
- you are left on a cliff hanger. I am okay with authors doing this, but when you find out that the sequel won't come out until half a year or later, not cool. I usually forget the story by that time and have to reread the 1st book again to even understand the 2nd.
- this is categorized as a romance, but as the review of my title indicates, it's not. Yes, the hero says a few things, touches her a little to indicate he has an attraction to her, but really, there isn't any romantic involvement, despite the heroine throwing herself at him (more than once)
- this brings me to my biggest beef: it was uncomfortable how much the heroine was trying to have a romantic relationship with the hero. She bargains for a "date" and asks him a couple of times to take away her V-card. It made her too pathetic. This, combined with her lack of boyfriends made me feel pity for her and I just don't want to feel that way about the female lead. I'm really hoping in book 2 that the heroine is able to experience a romance/boyfriend before she meets up with the hero again

Anyway, I think the author is super talented and when she does eventually come out with the sequel, I will be sure to read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Hitman in an action packed book! 15 November 2016
By Illinois Reader - Published on Amazon.com

I am not normally a person who likes killers, but there is something about Ms Monk's writing that has changed my mind. When a seemingly innocent woman (well the only thing I can figure out she is guilty of is being a slob) is attacked in her home, a migraine comes on suddenly. Her captor gives her migraine medicine and helps her to bed. When she, her name is Island, wakes up, 17 hours have gone by, and her apartment has gone from mostly trashed to spotless-better than any cleaning service could do!Before long she remembers March, her unusual intruder, and the oddness of the entire situation. What happens next takes place over five days, and includes kidnappings, near dismemberment, and high speed driving (and some slow speed driving as well) all punctuated by gunshot and beatings. Foreign countries, false passports, multiple languages blur together in a whirl of exciting activity. The pace never slows down, the action never disappoints!
Throughout it all we discover the many facets of the hitman named March, and the fact he may have a soft spot for Island. At least he keeps her alive and protects her as much as possible.

This exciting book made me laugh, hold my breath, and even squirm a little. I was delighted to know there was another book in the series published and waiting for me, and a third one out any day. Ten minutes after I finished this book I had downloaded the next in the series and was starting chapter three. It is so good I couldn't WAIT until the next day to continue the adventures. It is a book you will want to read for yourself, so get a copy now and start enjoying!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spotless kept me on edge with its secrets and twists 21 March 2017

This book brought my bookworm soul back to life.
I can't remember the last time I've stumbled onto a well-written romance story that would make me want to read more of author's work. There's usually little to no mystery in romance books I've read and I can easily guess what would be next or who's behind all the secrecy.

This story managed to suck me in almost from the start and I couldn't put it down. It is a perfect combination of comedy, suspence, drama, a lot of shooting and nerdiness. The chemistry between characters is remarkable, kind of a slow burn.
There's so much references to romance novels that I thought if March knew he was a well-written, badass character in one of those books he would be not amused. In some way, it felt like this book is kind of a tribute the the genre.

What I love the most about it is little bits and pieces that you collect through reading and only at the end the whole puzzle is complete. As it should be. Also, standing ovations for the ending. I really felt it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was hooked from the first words 30 December 2016

Fell in love with the book. The book was solid, but the audio really showed the full talent of the audio narrator, Amy McFadden - that was impressive! Back to the book, I related to the main characters. I loved their flaws and strengths. Within minutes after finishing book 1 I bought book 2 with audio. Even thought I don't speak the other languages used, I enjoyed having them in the book. I was hooked from the dedication, I kid you not. It gave me a good sense of the writing style and I knew it was a me book. The snark and sarcasm totally appealed to me.
