-comfortable on first touch.
-hard slippery soles (profile shown in picture)
-very little support for an "orthopedic" shoe. (Profile shown in picture)
I tried three different shoes and here is my quick comparison, for more information read my in depth reviews of each shoe, whoch can be found through my account page.
-Spenco yumi: 2 STARS
not supportive enough and slippery sole
-Orthaheel Ryder: 3 STARS
Not as supportive as I expected and strange sole profile.
-Orthaheel Bryce: 5 STARS
Perfection! Great support, Great look, and Great traction. Worth the price.
The shoe was well put together but offers less support than I expected. The bottom of the shoe is very slippery and there are serious traction Issues. The foot print of this shoe, what actually touches the ground is shockingly small. (shown in pictures) This combined with the rigidity of the sole cause traction issues. The deal killer for me was the lack of support, Ultimately is support not the reason you buy a Orthopedic shoe? The thong strap was a little rough but I suspect it will become comfortable after just a few hours a wear.
Though this is well put together, the lack of support and slippery sole are a deal killer. I am returning these and would not suggest them.
They're super comfortable and give me the relief I need from my plantar fasciitis. When I wake up in the morning my feet hurt when I walk. So I now simply wear my Spenco sandals indoors and my pain is gone. I like the fact that they are not super squishy like so many other sandals we wear in hawaii. They have just enough padding to make them comfortable to wear all day long. I love these and will be buying more if these ever wear out.
I tried 5 pairs of sandals including Teva, Chaccos, Orthaheel, and Merrell...if you have a fat foot or wider foot this will actually fit!
I was pleased to find that they now offer sandals with an array of aesthetic options. I was however concerned that the new designs might come at the cost of the perfect fit ive come to depend on
Im wearing my new, leather, mens sandals now and I can say that they represent the best of what spenco has always offered.
If you’ve never worn spenco sandals I suggest you try a pair. If you are already a fan and are weary of the new designs, rest assured, nothing has changed
Since every foot is different these won't work for everyone but I feel comfortable recommending them to just about anyone whether you have flat feet or high arches because they seem to be able to help a lot of people. If you have some of the highest arches ever seen then these might not be enough for you and I would recommend the Vionics or look into other options. The build quality is really good and they're quite comfortable. They're also quite handsome and you won't stand out at the beach or the mall as the dork in orthotics. I have been pleased with my purchase and I would buy them again.
For those who are interested here are some observations and random facts. These shoes do run a little big as mentioned. I wear a 10.5 but ordered a 10 and they fit well. I also have wide feet and usually wear a 4E and my feet take up about every inch of real estate available but are still comfortable. If you have really narrow feet these might feel a little big. The heel is pretty deeply cupped and has pretty good motion control if that's a concern. The first day of wearing these the thong between my toes hurt like heck but it didn't take long to get used to. It doesn't say it in the description but these do have the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) Seal Of Acceptance. These are waterproof and can be worn at the pool or beach without damaging them. Hopefully this review helps and if you're on the fence I say go for it.
Update: Been wearing these every summer for almost 4 years now and aside from being stained by dirt they still work and feel great! They've really helped relieve pain. Totally worth the money.
Many have commented that the toe strap was a little uncomfortable at first. I figured this wouldn't affect me because I wear a lot of flip-flops. I was wrong. But after about a week all was good. Highly recommend.
She too is a silent sufferer of the same.
Im happy to say I was able to wear them all day and not be in total agony. I had discomfort don't misunderstand
But I was pleasantly surprised at the end of the day.
