Words can change everything, but can they change your destiny?

Meredith is leading a straight-laced life in London with her straight-laced fiancé, determined to forget her reckless, wild-child past. They're about to get married.

Jamie is an old, poetic soul with a broken heart returning home to Cornwall to get his life back in order.

What binds them?

One chance meeting thirteen summers ago; one innocent spell spoken after one perfect night...

And now history is unravelling; the past and present, merging...

Words can change everything, but can they change your destiny?

And in the messy world of magic, what part does love play?

It's summer all over again, but the spell has only just begun.

Full length, contemporary romantic fiction, with a touch of magic. Written in British English.

A percentage of the author's proceeds made from the sales of this book will go to Sue Ryder Hospices, and to the Marine Conservation Society.

The spell of summer (once trice thrice) by Dianna Hardy
Dianna Hardy’s Spell of Summer proves that magic does exists and that no matter what if you are meant to be together then you will be. Regardless of how much time passes if you are meant to be it will be.
When Meredith says another man’s name at the alter on her wedding day her fiancée Michael decides that they need some time apart to reassess their commitment to each other. Even though she is upset by this Meredith goes along with his wishes and goes back to her home town. A place she hasn’t been since she was 16 when she left with her mother to make a new start in London. On her last night their Meredith meets Jamie when he saves her life; he then shows her the best night of her life.
Even though Meredith and Jamie went their separate ways and they had lives of their own 13 years latter fate shows them what was meant to be. It is not all smooth sailing and what about Michael? With a little bit of magic anything is possible!
Spell of summer is a wonderfully written book and I found it enthralling. It is nice to let some magic into my life and reminds us to let some” magic” into our own lives. A lovely romance was a pleasure to read this ARC for my honest review. Would recommend this to anyone.

This is the first book in a new romance series by this author. I LOVED IT!

Meredith Goodwill (Merri to her friends) is a wonderful character. She is an accountant and lives in London. She suffers from panic attacks, but is braver than she knows. I liked this character a lot. She has a big heart, but it was damaged when her father left. Now about to marry, Merri finds her past and present collide when an old flame comes back into her life.

James (Jamie) Corbin is a marine biologist, coming home to Cornwall after a broken relationship in Australia. However, he can't forget the girl he met on the edge of a cliff 13 summers before.

This is a fantastic contemporary romance. This story is certainly different to the author's other paranormal series, as there are no shape shifters or magical beings, but there is magic. I started to read the story, and quickly found myself entranced. I was drawn into the story and I struggled to put the book down. I was whisked away into an emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end. I loved meeting Merri's best friend, Candice North (Candy for short). She is a free spirit and, although not as wild as Merri was as a teenager, fun to be around. It was interesting to see how she had matured from a reckless teen into a woman with secrets.
There are a few other interesting characters in the story, which were brought to life with their imperfections. I found myself reaching for a tissue or two as I read the story, as some of the characters have pasts and presents that touched me deeply. The story is not only told from the view points of Merri and Jamie, but also a few other characters too.

The Spell of Summer is a captivating story following the highly likeable Meredith. Navigating through a momentous and significant time in her life, Meredith takes us on a journey where we feel the pull of first love and the beauty of the magic that goes with it.

Dianna Hardy has created a beautiful, gripping story. As always, her writing is delightfully crafted and visual. She successfully enables the reader to feel compelled to keep turning the pages, and feel a connection with her main characters.

Admittedly, I cried a little during this amazing read. Likewise, I laughed and cheered. The Spell of Summer is a 'don't think just buy' read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spell of Summer is Magically Delicious!! 2 July 2014
By Book- Marks The Spot - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I just finished The Spell of Summer and I am crying happy tears. I’m also crying sad tears for the hardships everyone in the book went through. It was a travesty to learn what happened to them, but it was joyous to learn how they overcame it. It was a magical adventure. Everything happens for a reason and what is that reason was destined from the beginning. What if words that you didn’t know the meaning to ended up being the most important words you have ever spoken. Merri finds that out in more!

I’m going to try and give a lot away with my review, so it’s going to be short and sweet. I don’t want to give y’all any hints. (because I’m evil muhahaha).

The Spell of Summer took me by storm. I was expecting a romance story with a little magic and what I got was a journey to where all the magic began and how the decision you make determine your future. I have no idea if that made sense, but I’m going with it. Don’t live your life by what you think you should do, live it by what you want to do. No one has any control over your life but yourself and this is just another wonderful thing you take after from The Spell of Summer. Oh and just one more though. The ending was perfect and I wouldn’t have ended it any other way. I’m going to be biting my nails for the next one!

Merri: Bless her heart. LoL She thought she knew what she wanted, but she had no idea. I found her to be courageous and strong. I love her spirit and how she always seems to pick herself up when she is down. She had lied to herself for years and all it takes is the change of wind for her to wake up.

Jamie: What a romantic. He is so open about his life and love. He is dreamy and understanding and just what Merri needed, that sound like she needed a sip of him like a drink…..and moving on. ;) How can you resist a guy that is smoking hot and shows you that he cares…that’s right you don’t :D

Overall: The Spell of Summer is Magically Delicious! I think it had some kind of spell over me because I couldn’t put it down. I don’t care who you are, what genre you like, The Spell of Summer is for you. If you don’t like then read it again because you obviously didn’t read it. LOL

Quotes:

We must be careful with our words – we’re like superheroes and words are like our super powers. Super powers should always be used to help others…

“I love the sea. It’s full of secrets just waiting to be discovered,” his gaze met hers, “kinda like you.”

“I get that events can colour a person, but they can’t change who you are deep down – they can’t change your soul.”

“Don’t be sorry for the truth. A harsh truth is less damaging than a tender lie, and the worst lies are the ones we tell ourselves.”

I found myself reaching for a tissue or two as I read the story, as some of the characters have pasts and presents that touched me deeply. The story is not only told from the view points of Merri and Jamie, but also a few other characters too. I loved this, as it allowed me to see and feel what they did. Merri and Jamie fairly smolder together, and the heat between them was rather palpable. I found this story was peppered with pearls of wisdom. I don't normally put quotes in my reviews, but I couldn't not put this one in: "Love finds you, not the other way around, and you can't run from it." This is just one of many that have actually struck a chord in me. I also loved the wasp-stung ice cream scene; it made me giggle. I love little Rebecca, she is so adorable! The end of the story has a slight twist, and now I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

Dianna Hardy has written a wonderful contemporary romance with a paranormal twist. I loved the fast pace and flow of the story. I am a huge fan of this author's work. Her characters are lifelike, likable, and sexy.

As this story has a few scenes of a sensual nature that are a bit on the explicit side, I do not recommend this book to readers under 17. However, I highly recommend this book if you love contemporary or paranormal romance. - Lynn Worton

5.0 out of 5 stars One to read 17 June 2014
By Claire Taylor - Published on Amazon.com

If you enjoy romance, then this book is definitely for you and I would highly recommend reading it. I fell in love with the characters immediately and became so gripped with the story that I really didn’t want to put it down, despite having things to do. The characters were real and believable, making it easy to connect to them and feel the roller coaster of emotions they were going through as the story unfolded. Every emotion possible is portrayed at one point in the story, and with the vivid descriptive nature and writing style used, it was easy to get completely lost in Merri and Jamie’s world. This story will definitely be read over and over again, and I can’t wait to read more of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars 13 summers ago. The best night of her life.... One Night Stand... Will she ever find true love? What is right and what is wrong? 29 June 2015
By Nancy Allen (The Avid Reader) - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Merri had lived a rough life. Her dad walked out on her and her mother when she was only five years old. Losing her father like that really tore Merri up. Her mom did the best she knew how with Merri but she just loved her dad so much that she just couldn’t get over him leaving them the way he did. Merri made some wrong choices in her life while growing up but she also made some great ones as well.

Merri and her mother moved to a new place when she was sixteen years old. On the night before they were supposed to leave Merri planned a big party with all of her friends. She never really expected to see any of them again. During this party Merri was fighting some tough battles within herself and decides to be a little reckless and climb up the side of a mountain. She made it to the top but when she got there and grabbed a holed of the top the dirt was very lose and Merri started to slide back down but as luck would have it a hand reached out a caught hers. The best looking dude she had ever seen in her whole life. This dude was so hot he would make your tongue come out and slap your brains out.

Jamie was a real great guy and he was there for Merri that night in more ways than one. He was her friend and her lover. He listened to what she had to say and helped her to go on with her life. Jamie and Merri spent one night together and it was the best night of their lives. Merri and Jamie’s one night together would make a great “One Night Stand” story in my opinion. I love the “One Night Stand” stories. Jamie and Merri spent this night together knowing that they would probably never to see each other again. They had to leave each other they had no choice at their age.

Both Merri and Jamie go through a lot of bad stuff and times in their lives. Neither one of them has ever forgotten about the other one but they had to go on with their lives they couldn’t give up. They had to make the best with what they had. But when Merri goofs up and makes a really bad mistake on her wedding day she decides that she needs a vacation so she goes back to her old home town where she grew up with her bff from high school. Merri goes home to spend some time with Candy hopefully she can get her life back in order. Jamie just happens to take a little trip home after he breaks up with his girlfriend. He thinks that going back home and spending some time with his sister and helping her out with her kids. Jamie’s sister Pippa is having a rough time with her husband and could also use a little love and friendship too.

Dianna is one of the best authors that I have had the privilege of reading her books. I have read just about every book that she has written and I don’t think that there was a one of them that didn’t grab me by the ears and held on tight. If you have ever read one of Dianna’s books then you know exactly what I am talking about and if you don’t know then you need to get started right now. Because trust me you are going to find a new best author. One that will be on the top of your list and you won’t have to read the summary to know if the book is going to be good or not. You will know as soon as you see her name on it.

I loved all of the characters in The Spell of Summer. I loved reading all the different pov’s. I love books where you can get inside all of the characters heads and know what they are thinking and feeling. I can’t wait to read more of Jamie and Merri’s stories or Candy’s and Pippa’s stories as well. Oh and throw in the kids too; Liam, Sammy and Becca while you are at it. Oh and I loved that it was written in British English. I know we use the same words but differently. I would to learn different languages. The first language I would love to learn would be Spanish. I have tried teaching myself but I didn’t speak it so I have forgotten most of what I learned. I think it would be so neat to be fluent in several different languages. Well that is enough rambling for today. Thank you Dianna for giving me the opportunity to read your books. Reading is my passion and if it was not for authors like you I would not get to read as many books as I do. I just wish I could read faster so that I could read more books and help more authors.
