From the manufacturer
There are two types of homes: those that have termites and those that will eventually have termites. Whether
you live in the North or South or have a new or old home, your home is a target for termites.
Spectracide Terminate products kill wood-destroying insects, with options for detection, outdoor treatment
and indoor crack and crevice control. Along with a professional inspection to determine the extent of an active infestation, these products offer effective, do-it-yourself options for controlling wood-destroying insects.
How do you know if you have termites?
Subterranean termites are found in 49 of the 50 states and Puerto Rico (everywhere but Alaska). If termites have invaded your home, you may see some of these warning signs:
- Small wings near windows and doors or in the garage.
- Mud tunnels along the foundation of your house (inside or outside).
- Small holes in the wood or drywall, or buckling paint.
Because termites eat wood from the inside out, it might be difficult to determine the extent of an active infestation. If you suspect termites, get a professional inspection and treat the area where termites are present.
Reduce your risk of termites
Reduce potential food sources.
Check for leaky water spigots or sprinklers, and ensure that water flows away from your home.
Remove potential food sources.
Pay attention to areas where wood contacts soil directly, including fences, stairs, trellises, wood piles, stumps, dead bushes or other wood debris.
When building a new home, check with your contractor for soil pre-treatments that can be applied by a professional pest control operator.
Get regular inspections.
Certfied inspectors can point out termite-critical areas around your home and may recommend other treatments, such as mechanical alteration or foundation treatment.

I had bought some of these at a home improvement store and put them next to the terminix ones near where I seen termite activity.
Within weeks all the orange indicators were popped up, baits all gone. The terminix ones, only inches apart, remained UNTOUCHED, thus USELESS.
I bought more of these here on amazon and my termite outbreak was nearly gone, by next spring I should be termite free.
I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend these.
Conversely, I had been paying a company to install their stakes; after 3 years in the ground only 2 of the 14 stakes had to be replaced and you could see termites on those two stake (after 3 years we pulled each of the 14 stakes out of the ground and inspected them).
From my perspective the Spectracide stakes are a complete waste of money as they quickly away rather than control termites.
Remember, there is no such thing as getting rid of termites. The idea is just to keep them out of your wood...they are fine in the ground outside of our house chewing on whatever roots and rot they want.
Without good access to visual inspection you are doomed to waiting until some real damage is done.
After finding termites, I increased the number of stakes near the original to try and control them as best I can. I'm trying to decide between profession pest control or going the DIY route and using more expensive/powerful termite bait stations / termidor. I'll wait to see how the stakes do in the next couple of months and monitor around my home in the meantime.
What I haven't seen these baits do is actually kill termites. I'm yet to see a dead termite inside one of them. The place near my house where these termites actively eat the baits does not change. I increased the number baits there, and termites just eat them with increased enthusiasm.
The good thing is that they love the baits more than anything else, as they keep them preoccupied. The bad thing is that I'm afraid I'm just increasing their population with these new baits.
After using these baits for three years, I'm looking for alternative solution of keeping termites away from my house. Preferably something that actually controls their population
shed. The termites made dirt tunnels over the cement slab and the workbench. My original plan was to use these stakes, however I used Termador mixed with 4 gallons of water instead. It was easy to dig an eight foot long. 6" X6" trench and pour in the mix. This approach lasts ten years and kills the colony. So these stakes are good if you want to check for termites, but if you already have them use the termador concentrate or its generic equivalent.
I opened the tube to verify actual termite activity and, sure enough, there they were tunneling back and forth - little white/clear “workers.” Looks as though there is a white “rope” in the center of the tube and once they chew through it, the red tab at the top is released to alert you of activity.
I didn’t investigate the tube any further, so I don’t know if there were any dead in there. Can’t say for sure that it kills them, but it certainly acts as an early detector of activity so that you can get a professional on board.
No issues with rain as others mentioned and we had unusually heavy, constant rain for the first 3-4 of installation.
All in all, extremely happy with this purchase.
