5.0 out of 5 stars Expect the unexpected 14 April 2014

This wasn't at all what I expected to read. Its probably a good part of the reason i liked it so much. Most books you pick can tell where its going to go and who ends up with who in the end. You dont get that with this story at all and it rocked.

The characters were well developed. Felt for all of them in different ways though had a harder time identifying with Rick bit its not because he wasnt developed its just as a character its not someone id hang out with.

Jake stood out for me the most because through the whole story he seemed so freakin real. Its a sign of a good writer when the characters dont seem out of this world or unbelieveable. i hate that kind of thing but this...he was definitely real and about more than just one solitary thing.

this is a great book and if you take a chance on it...expect the unexpected. its amazing!

This is a story about three friend s that couldn't be close. When Jake losses his parents at eight he also losses some use in his leg, which mentally does a number on him. Luckily when he moves in with his granddad, he moves next door to the Welsh. Rick is one the cool kids. So having him as a friends was a godsend for high school. Sam is the only girl that treats him like a person. Sam, Rick and Jake are pretty much the three musketeers.
As they are going to college, and Rick improves his game he knows he has a real chance at being drafted to the NBA. This is a major dispute between Sam and Rick, she want him to focus on school now and his career later, Rick thinks the exact opposite. During this time Sam and Rick up the level of their relationship, they have been dating but now begin to sleep together. Leaving Jake on his own a lot. During the holidays Jake and granddad go to the Welsh's. While this is a good distraction it is also hard reminder of the loss of his parents. While hiding in the bathroom, Jenna Rick's younger sister comes in and and kisses Jake and tell hi she has a crush and has has a crush on him for a long time. No wing this is a tricky situation, seeing your best friends little sister, they keep their realia ship on the DL.
As time goes by, Jake finally reveals to Rick and Sam that he has been seeing Jenna. At first Rick seems upset, but then decides that Jake is a good guy and is happy for him. Right before summer break, Jake comes home to Mr Welsh waiting for him. Without a word said he knew that his grandad, had passed away. This made him feel like he was all alone. He had no family left. The Welsh's reminded him that he has been apart of their family for quite a while now and nothing has changed that. Mourning the loss of his granddad, was hard for him. This was either going to make a break him. Sam and Rick stood by hi and helped him in more ways then he ever imagined.

What a nice story of friendship and love. There were a few twists and at times, it felt a little awkward, but all in all a nice story.
