Product Description

Members of the CIA’s specialized team Sparrow, who investigate specifically into black market deals involving stolen medical research, were all murdered in one quick sweep. Drew and Samantha, team five-nine, have been more than just partners since their academy training days. Safeguarding their secret tryst from everyone in their professional lives, they trust no one but themselves. But when Samantha finds herself suspiciously spared and Drew missing, she doesn’t want to believe what the CIA claims – that Drew is not only alive and has defected from their organization, but is facilitating the deaths of prominent research developers worldwide. Now the only member of Sparrow who hasn’t been killed off, Samantha finds herself under serious investigation by association – and a prisoner within her own home.

Just when she’s on the verge of being labeled a murderer and a traitor herself, Drew activates a beacon only she can see, taunting her from across the world. He knows she’s watching, and she knows he could be gone forever if she doesn't oblige his silent request. With nothing left to lose and everything to gain, Sam goes rogue to track him down and clear her good name. But when she finally catches up to her partner of four years, he hasn’t a clue who he is or what he’s done, and the men chasing him down suddenly want to acquire her as well.

Frantic yet determined, Samantha is forced to protect a man she no longer trusts in order to learn why he went astray – and why his associates are determined to retrieve him. But is Drew really a victim himself in a much greater scheme, or will his memories prove lethal, leading Sam into harm’s way like a lamb to slaughter, ultimately risking the life of the only member of Sparrow he managed to save?

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular thriller of a book, so easy to read 30 January 2015
By Jennifer Mclean - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
"Sparrow 59" by Devon Ashley was a terrific book and since it finished on a cliffhanger of sorts, I'm looking forward to the sequel. Lucky for you, you can buy it right now as the publication date passed just a month ago. It's got great ratings, all in the fours and fives and I'll be adding my own 5 of 5 rating to that spectacular success. Let me tell you about this really fun book.

"The Bourne Identity meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith" has been used to describe this thriller and I'd have to heartily agree. What more would you want? Spies, cool tech stuff, amazing CIA training, chases across the world, great banter between characters and possibly a tragic love story all rolled into one! Yep, it's a rip roaring thrill ride that's perfect for a boring and cold February evening.

Samantha and Drew have been partners since they were recruited by the CIA out of Langley. Now, they are doing undercover work is as a married couple who are part of "SPARROW", a specialty CIA team of operatives investigating and recovering stolen medical research. After a successful op everyone involved in SPARROW is dead except Sam and Drew. Sam was found unconscious at the scene and Drew is missing.

The CIA think Drew is involved in the massacre so they are watching Sam, the other member of team 5-9. When a beacon that only Sam can see is activated, indicating that Drew is alive and needs her help, she must decide to become a fugitive herself or leave Drew out in the cold to fend for himself. So starts a gripping, suspense-filled mystery/thriller that you'll have trouble putting down.

I loved this book. It is a rare thing to find a writer that both writes good characters who feel and have flaws and also be able to inject good, fast paced scenarios that keeps the reader engaged and not bored. I found myself really enjoying getting to know Sam, the main character in this, the first book in the series "The Sleeper's Coalition". I liked how human she was and how well the author fleshed out her personality. "Sparrow 59" was an easy read and so well worth the lost sleep I suffered as I read well into the night to finish this thriller. I warn you, all answers will NOT found at the end of this book but your curiosity will be so piqued that you'll be sending pleading emails to Ms. Ashley to write the next book quickly. This is a five out of five for me because it was such fun to read with no effort needed to enjoy it.
4.0 out of 5 stars a very enjoyable and engaging new adult book 17 December 2014

When I saw Sparrow 59 on NetGalley, I wasn't so sure if I wanted to get it for review or not because I don't usually read (romantic) spy thrillers. In the end, though, I was so glad I did decide to get it because it was such a great book and so different from the books I usually read. I can't say it's the best book ever, in my eyes, but I really did enjoy it. Also, I read it so fast! Seriously, I barely put my Kindle down!

The thing that hooked me the most, I guess, was the mystery about what happened to Drew and why he disappeared, only to reappear again in compromising places. I also really liked reading about the main characters Samantha and and of course Drew. Although we get more of Sam's point of view than Drew's, I really liked to read from both of them.

Sam was a fantastic character. She kicked ass and I love how she left everything behind to go after Drew, even though it gets her in more trouble with the CIA than she already was. And I just loved Drew. I really enjoyed his point of view, which came more towards the end, but it was still interesting to take a peak inside his head.

The ending was pretty brutal. I'm still not sure what really happened since it ended so abrubtly. Damn cliffhanger, I both love and loathe them. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to the next book to find out what happened and how it will

Fast-paced with lots of action, mystery and romance, Sparrow 59 was unexpectly a very enjoyable and engaging new adult book. The writing was great, the story never got boring and the characters kicked ass. Go read it!
5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A MUST READ!!! 14 November 2015

I can't believe I've had this book in my TBR for so long! THIS IS A MUST READ for all action-suspense lovers out there. But hey, I prefer my romance books and I loved it, so I guess this is must read for all lovers of great story.

The first chapter intrigued me, the second, kept me going and going and going, until I realized that I'm totally hooked! My heart was beating fast during their runs, and it was breaking for Sam after their first mission. Honestly, I really couldn't put it down!

The story, like Ive said, is very addicting; the writing really takes you inside the book; the characters, you just want to punch somebody just so you can help them; and the writing - well done! I couldn't ask for more!

Well, aside from the next book, that is! I can't wait for the next book!!! ❤
4.0 out of 5 stars Action, romance and suspense 4 January 2015

Sparrow 59 is hugely different than any book I have read recently. Devon Ashley combines romance, action and espionage to create Mission Impossible meets James Bond!
Sam is a member of the Sparrow program, working for the CIA as a retrieval operative. After a successful mission in Germany, Sam is hit with a tranquilizer dart whilst the rest of her Sparrow team members are being killed. All but Drew, her partner, who disappears. Sam's relationship with Drew is difficult; they complete their CIA missions as a married couple, but in private their real marriage is a secret.
Sam returns back to the CIA headquarters, desperate to find Drew, but after a month of no contact it is obvious that the both of them will be used as scapegoats for the destruction of the Sparrow project. Until the moment Drew unexpectedly makes contact with Sam and she sets of on a one-woman rescue mission.
The story is told from Sam's point of view, allowing us to understand her situation and emotions. When the couple are reunited, under difficult circumstances they are forced to concentrate on saving their own lives, rather than rebuilding their relationship. Devon Ashley carefully mixes the romantic content of the story, with the danger, reminding us of the couple's humanity, even though they spend much of their time holding a gun!
Much of Sparrow 59 is fast-paced and Devon Ashley is not afraid of making her reader uncomfortable, which is particularly true of the books last few chapters. Sparrow 59 would be an ideal choice for readers who are looking for a change from their usual genre and I am already looking forward to its sequel.
I received this as a complimentary review copy, but this has had no influence on my opinion.
