Product Description

Not many people know that I, Eevie Lawson, have a problem. An addiction to romance novels. I eat them for breakfast. I hide it the best I can, but I need them to breathe. It’s how I cope.

I’ve had a swag of book boyfriends, but now that I’m free from the responsibility of caring for my three younger brothers, it’s time to find one in the flesh.

In real life, no girl meets their hero on page one, or even at the end of chapter one. I should know.

My journey is real. It’s not perfect, and it sure as hell isn’t easy—but the fight for something worthwhile never is.

*Recommended for readers over 18 as contains adult themes.

This is the first book of Jennifer Ryder's that I have read and I don't think it will be the last. In fact I know it won't be the last.
The story is about Eevie, a young woman who loves to read romance books in her spare time, a young woman who dreams that her first time will be something good and special that she will remember always.
Eevie has had to overcome some huge obstacles in her life to get to where she is now. No sooner than she overcomes one obstacle than life throws her another to deal with. But deal with it she does.
She meets Aidan Stone at a time when she is not available but it doesn't stop the spark that she feels at the sight of him. Aidan isn't free either so they try to forget each other and move on with their lives.
Time passes and they meet up again, only this time they are both single. Is the spark still there? To find out you will just have to read it and if you do? You won't regret it.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Spark is a novel that I inhaled quickly. It's such an intense, sweet and fabulous hot read.

From the opening, I was absorbed into the narrative and felt a certain level of kinship with the main character Eevie. The author, Jennifer Ryder, has successfully created a main character who readers can bond with and relate to. Eevie is a well-formed character; it was a pleasure to follow her story. Enter Aiden. He is drool-worthy, and right up there with having the goods for a hot-as-hell book boyfriend.

There's just the right level of realism mixed in with escapism. As such, I felt a great amount of tension as the plot peaked with it's complication, and I was rewarded by many uplifting moments, creating a lovely balance. Likewise, what was so refreshing with Jennifer Ryder's debut novel, was the context and focus on moto-cross. I loved this concept and think the author crafted a strong story overall.

Most definitely a 'don't think just buy' read.

Spark is the debut novel from Jennifer Ryder and is about Eevie and Aidan. Eevie has spent the past couple of years caring for her family and at the age of 20 is finally able to take a step back and focus on her own life. Aidan is an up-and-coming motocross rider who spends quite a bit of time away while competing. They meet through a mutual friend and while there's attraction on both sides, the timing is off with both currently in other relationships.

Unfortunately, I can't really go into what the story is about as so much seems to be happening all the time, mainly regarding Eevie: She goes through two relationships prior to hooking up with Aidan; She has to deal with the breakdown of some very important relationships in her life; and She attracts some unwanted attention that leaves her fighting for her life.

Despite everything, she comes out strong each and every time, and that's probably what I like most about her. She doesn't let the bad things in life drag her down too long and manages to keep her sense of humour.

Eevie: I've got to stop looking at him like I'm a starved supermodel, desperate for her next meal.

Aidan is a sweetheart and not once does he treat her with anything but respect. He is never rude to her, fulfils every promise and then some, and is so in love with her you can see it before he says it. The only downside was we never got to read about his riding. Eevie never even watches him compete or even ride. Since the author loves MX boys, I found the lack of MX material odd.

For a debut novel, I thought this was a pretty good read. Some of the sentences were rather short which caused the writing to feel a little stop-start and difficult to follow.

What a fantastic debut novel about love and growth. I don’t know what I was expecting to read from the blurb but I had a whole different storyline running through my head. This story has so many layers and kudos to the author for creating a story with such depth and complexity.
To me, Eevie was instantly likeable. The way she spoke and her thoughts reminded me so much of me and the way I speak that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud in many spots.
Having had to step up for the family responsibilities, Eevie is finally able to let her hair down. Have to give props to the author, she has written a character like Eevie like a pro. Now, let’s get to the hero – Aidan Stone. **sigh** He is a man. He knows how to treat a woman right and everything just felt right between him and Eevie. I defy anyone not to fall in love with him too. What Eevie had, I wanted!
The way Eevie’s experience is portrayed, you can’t help but sympathise and understand that she is slightly naïve in the relationship department. She’s blindsided by her best friend Jon and I wanted to punch Alex in the throat on her behalf. Everything is falling into place when she finally gets her time with Aidan and then the unthinkable happens. This is where the characters grow into their own and their relationship is at the fork in the road. It can either destroy them or forge their love.
For me, I love stories that show the real hardships of relationships. We are taken through a variety of stages of their relationship. This might be an insta-attraction love story but it’s certainly not an insta-get together story. It was actually a bit frustrating to read about Jon and Alex but their time hadn’t come yet. Well played Ms Ryder – well played!
The tension between these two is perfectly written.
