How do I review this book? I picked up my first sci-fi novel in 1970. I've read intriguing, exciting, amusing, thought-provoking, but also boring, and just plain bad sci-fi. I can honestly say, I hadn't read anything quite like this one though.
First, let me say that it is very well written. This was my first Robinson novel, but it won't be my last. The action never stopped, and kept me interested from the first page until the closing credits rolled. The characters were likeable, and their dialogue memorable.
For myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
But, I should warn, that the story won't be for everyone. You will need a twisted sense of humour, the ability to switch off your logic-circuits, and - most importantly - you will have to leave your delicate sensibilites behind. If you're looking for Asimov's Foundation - look elsewhere.
But if you think you might enjoy an irreverent, action-packed, horrifically funny space-romp, then look no further.
In movie terms, it's part Guardians of the Galaxy, part Ice Pirates, part Dune, and parts unnentionable.
