In The Sound, Ren is just this; a smart independent young woman who needs to find her way a bit after splitting up with her first boyfriend. Every girl can identify with that! The journey she goes on teaches her about herself, and wider lessons. And the journey is gripping - and it involves one of the hottest male characters I have EVER read about (maybe excepting Alex in Hunting Lila, another Sarah Alderson book).
If you are tempted to purchase this book but are put off by the YA category - don't be. I'm in my 30's and I loved this book. But I know I would have loved it when I was a teenager too. Why - because it's well written and delivers everything I'm looking for in a book; a gripping story, a main character I can believe in and will to succeed, and a hot love interest who treats women right.
I read this book in a day next to the pool on holiday. If you buy it, I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed. I've already downloaded my next Sarah Alderson title.
I gave 'The Sound' three star as because although some bits disappointed me I was always gripped. I read it in one sitting. But compared to Sarah Alderson's Lila books it wasn't all that!
I love the mystery in this book, and the ending is amazing- I just wish that it was a bit longer so that we could read more about Jesse and Ren!
Definitely would/have recommended this book to my friends.
