Despair had virtually encompassed Ann when her twin sister, Celeste was murdered succeeding the dying of her father and mother. Later, while in quest of a Hollywood big-wig as the offender, she chance meets, Tyler Peters, a young actor and finds herself drawn to him; however being he is younger than her, this doesn’t sit right with her. As the relationship grows more fervent, she gets warmer on the culprit’s trail and, the amazing energy amid her and Tyler Peters is suddenly tried. This story is immensely stirring, to do with sisterly bonds and the consequences of one of their lives taken in a disturbing way. There are positively exclusive characteristics to the narrative’s passionate design. Author, J Hinsman weaved an intriguing, romantic story that will keep you flipping through the pages. Two thumbs up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable light paranormal romance 23 May 2015
By T. Sanders - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This was an emotional story with just the right amount of drama, suspense, romance, and paranormal influence to make it a multi-genre hit. The characters were well-developed, especially Ann, who was down-to-earth and easy to connect with. The sprinkle of supporting characters added the right amount of flavor to the story as well. It was apparent that the author took great care in construction of their backstories and personalities.

The plot started off suspenseful and intriguing at the beginning, then the pace slowed a bit toward the middle. Thankfully, it picked up quite well at the end--especially in the epilogue. There were several word omissions and grammar oversites, which was a little distracting, but the plot developments were interesting enough to keep me reading all the way to the end.

In summation, the author did a nice job for a debut novel. It garners a 3.5-4-STAR rating in its current state. However, with a little more editing, it could easily achieve a 5-STAR status.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review of Souls by J Hinsman 16 May 2015

Beautiful and very touching love story. It didn’t start as a love story, but as a gruesome and very tragic story about this poor girl Ann who lost her whole family in the blink of an eye. Will she make it? Will she survive? This is one story where you could see the hand of God at work in someone’s life. At every turn, Ann found people who seemed to be sent to help her.

First, her late sister’s fiancé, whom she trusted, but whom perhaps, she shouldn’t have trusted so much. Then Ed who just out of the blues was there, and became a God sent. Ann ended calling him dad. And then came Tyler who again came into Ann’s life in that typical hand of God way. Call it destiny!

I love romances, and this one touched me in a sweet and delicate way. I must say that I came across a number of glitches which did not take from the story at all, glitches like some omitted words here and there. But, like I said, they did not spoil my enjoyment of this story.
4.0 out of 5 stars One doesn’t often fall in love while tracking a killer 10 April 2017

This story is part drama, part romance, with an added measure of murder mystery suspense. Ann is a young woman in search of the one responsible for her twin sister’s death. But it’s during this journey that Ann travels to California and finds much more than she anticipated. One doesn’t often fall in love while tracking a killer, but this isn’t your ordinary love story.

There is a cast of well-developed characters invested in the story, which always makes for a good read. The author injects just enough twists into the plot to keep it fresh and adventurous from start to finish. As some have mentioned in other reviews, there are a few things that a second edit might clean up. But this is an entertaining read from a talented storyteller. If you enjoy getting lost within the pages of a well-told story, add Souls to your “must read” list.

4.0 out of 5 stars A mystery/romance where things are not always what they seem 12 May 2015

I would describe Souls as equal parts romance and mystery.

Ann is a strong heroine who has survived a horrible trauma. Now she is on a mission, hiding a dark secret that
may ruin her burgeoning relationship with a charming British movie star. This is not your typical ‘Romantic’ fling, in that he is quite a bit younger than she is. Halfway through the book, their relationship is complicated by another interesting development, but I won’t spoil that. I’ll just say there are definitely some unique aspects to the novel’s romantic plot.

Author J.A. Hinsman also does a good job of unfolding the book’s mystery plot. From the very beginning we don’t understand all of Ann’s motivations, her secrets or her tragic past—those are coyly revealed as the book builds steam. Suspects and allies are established, and it’s not long before Ann is in over her head.

Hinsman skillfully interweaves both plots, and flavors the story with vivid descriptions of the beautiful setting, Palo Verdes. The coastal locale and the simmering plot make Souls a great choice for a beach read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Twists, Turns and Great Characters 21 May 2015

What more could you ask for, right? This is a wonderful story line, very touching about sibling love and what happens if someone harms one of them. It was also about letting go of the hate and letting yourself live again after a loss. I loved all the characters, especially Ann and Tyler and their romance, but I think Ed was my favorite. All the characters were well-crafted and detailed. I could relate with Ann as a person who has lost a sibling and both parents, and of marrying a man seven years younger. I know how it feels to be the only one left in your immediate family. So we had a lot in common. I also love a great mystery and this one didn't disappoint me. There were just enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. I did find a few missing words and typos but they didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story. I believe with a little more editing this book could be on the best seller list. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.
