Our love is imperfect in the most perfect way. It is love done our way. Raw. Unconventional. Sexy as hell. More importantly, it is honest to the core…Or so I think.
One little, white lie shouldn't do so much damage. Yet, it changes me forever.
The worst part is that Declan whispers that sweet nothing out of protection. My safety is in the forefront of his mind, especially since there are others who’d hurt me simply to get to him. I never consider that he will be the one to cut me so deeply. But it all starts with that first prick—the night he saves my life.

His perilous stare deepened as his grip fastened around my waist. As maniacal thoughts passed over his eyes, his grasp tightened. That look confirmed that I wasn’t the only one who wanted all the space between us eliminated.
could hardly breathe when his gaze fell to my lips. It left me without words. It was the very way a passing glance could leave you speechless. But Declan didn’t just take a glimpse. No, he unapologetically looked me over. He
me in not so many words, but I heard them all the same. I heard them with each moan that echoed in the air. I felt them as he held me gently in his arms. Even if I didn’t feel the desire radiating off of him in a fury of passion, he bore that intensity in his gaze. The world around us melted away until there was only me and

This is the first book I've read by Sarah J. Pepper, but it will not be the last. I loved her spin on Rumpelstiltskin. Declan Stilts is one sexy man. Piper Miller is one feisty female and I love that Declan's pet name for her is Pied Piper. This is a love story, but it's so much more. You will be surprised at the twists in this book, so go one-click now. I highly recommend this book. I can't wait to read the next one

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like romantic fairy tales and demons, this book is for you. Sarah J. Pepper has created another award winning series. 29 March 2016
By Itsy Bitsy Book Bits - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
SOULLESS by SARAH J. PEPPER is the first book in the ONCE WICKED series. This is the second book I have read by Sarah and she doesn't disappoint. Sarah is an award winning author that specializes in fantasy and paranormal. SOULLESS is a fantasy romance and shows another dimension to her writing and proves her talent as a great author. PRICELESS is a prequel to SOULLESS and will offer a great background read. Although SOULLESS is part of a series, it definitely can be read as a stand a lone. However, Sarah will captivate you with SOULLESS and you will have to read the entire series. It is just that good.

Piper Miller was drawn to Declan Stilts, alias Declan Rumpelstiltskin, by his physical appearance and bad boy persona. He is stunningly handsome, abundantly wealthy, powerful, and has a kick ass body. He also has a kind heart. Declan was consumed with his desire for Piper, who he lovingly referred to as Pied Piper. He had to have her for his own. They could never have the traditional relationship, but they would take what they could.

Piper had confessed that she did not want to be free from him and he could not let her go. His love for her was his undoing. When he pierced her heart with the dagger he saved Piper from death by sharing the Incubus curse with her. From that moment on her heart would beat forever and she was totally his. That would be their curse to carry.

Declan revealed to Piper that her mother, Emily, had sold her to him. Her mother was a very evil woman. In exchange he would convince her husband, who never loved her, to leave his mistress and go back to her. Piper felt strangely guilty because she felt absolutely no emotion when her mother died.

Piper and Declan's story is extremely intense and will keep you hooked from the beginning. Their chemistry is off the charts and you won't want to miss a minute of the suspense.

If you like romantic fairy tales and demons, this book is for you. Sarah J. Pepper has created another award winning series. Great characters and intriguing story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately Not for Me 19 March 2016

*I received a free ecopy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*

I wanted to like this book, and I really thought I would. It's a retelling of, or at least inspired by, Rumplestiltskin, something I've never come across before. And I love retellings, especially unique ones!

But this book was not for me.

One big issue I had was that the writing style did a lot of telling instead of showing and was kind of a breaking of the fourth wall. It felt like I was sitting and having a conversation with someone. Here, I can show you some examples...

"But that wasn't why I was attracted to Declan. If I'd been just another gold digger, he would have sucked away my life's essence after he hunted me down. Had I forgotten to mention that I'd pickpocketed him the first time we met? Yeah...I left home. I couldn't stand to live with Emilie another minute longer."

"If anything, I was overcome by a thousand different feelings at once. Some were complex. Like survivor's guilt for living through an impossible night. Self-loathing for enjoying the consumption of another person's life. Gratitude for Declan's unconditional love. Accountability for asking him to trade his freedom to stay with me."

I understand that some people may like that, but I'm not one of those people. And because the pages were filled with these conversational inner monologues, it felt to me like very little actually happened.

I also spent a lot of time just being confused. One character would do something, then another character would say something, then the first would respond... but I couldn't figure out how any of the things were actually related or how we got from point A to point B. And the characters thoughts and emotions and dialogue would constantly jump from one extreme to another which just further confused me because, again, I didn't understand how the characters were making these transitions, what the connections were, especially so suddenly.

A good editor would also have been helpful. There weren't just typos, there were completely incorrect words being used, like "precariously" instead of "vicariously." Normally I'm not a huge stickler for typos, but these were distracting to me.

One last thing, this might be nitpicky, but if an immortal creature were trying to keep the fact that he's an immortal creature secret, he wouldn't make himself famous. I have it on good authority (i.e. paranormal creatures in other books I've read) that this is a big no-no. He was worried about people suspecting something if his injuries healed too fast, but what are they going to think 50 years from now when he looks exactly the same? Or 200 years from now when they find an old photo or video of him and he's still alive?

So overall, as I said, this really just didn't work for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark romance that leaves you wanting more and more! Twisted, fantastic read! 28 February 2016

Why does Sarah Pepper do this to me! The draws me in with the beautifully developed characters and story line, then BAM! Yep, didn't see that coming. I agonize over it every time, and love it every time. It is impossible to not have a book hangover - particularly with her twisted fairy tale stories.

If you haven't, it's recommended you read Priceless first, though it's not required. It is part of the anthology Fairy Tale Confessions.

The story of Declan and Piper continues. Piper is about to die, and he saves her by sharing his curse, making her a succubus. There is so much I could say, but I don't want to give too many spoilers!

I don't know how she does it, but the author makes me forget that I've met these characters before, and that this is her modern retelling of their story. The whole time I was reading it, I found myself trying to determine who the good guys were and who were the bad. One thing I have discovered about Ms. Pepper's books, is that she does not like things to be black and white, and write some of the best anti-heroes I've had the privilege of reading. It does end with a cliffhanger, and I greatly look forward to the continuation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read 23 February 2016

Can I just take the time to give her props for writing an amazing book? The story had me hooked from the first line. I honestly love how twisted Sarah J. Pepper is and how she takes you on a suspense, action, filled ride with her words. I bow down to you.
The dynamic between Piper and Declan is off the charts amazing. I really don’t know how to describe it without giving away spoilers. However, I will tell you to buy the book and get lost in this adult fairy tale. I honestly felt like I was right there with Piper and Declan from start to finish. I love them both so much that it physically hurt me to finish the book. She also has a way of making you fall in love with the secondary characters. Please, please, please give them their own stories. I’m begging you.
Sarah J. Pepper has a way of making you lose track of time when you pick up one of her books. Her writing style is unique and amazing. Her characters are beautifully written and perfectly flawed.
I give this wonderfully written story 5/5 Platypires and I will recommend it to everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing storytelling! 23 February 2016

Soulless picks up right where Priceless (from the Fairy Tales Confession anthology) ended. Declan doesn’t go through with giving his curse fully to Piper, instead he chooses to share it with her. I was really hoping that it would work out for both of them. Sure it’s not a traditional love story but it was definitely passionate. My hopes were sent on a rollercoaster journey as Piper struggled with her love for Declan and her fear of becoming a monster like him. The emotions from both Declan and Piper were real and raw. My heart was breaking by the end, so much torment. The secondary characters of Opie, Hans and El, and Ula completely have me hoping and praying they will have their stories told. Sarah J Pepper is by far my favorite author of reimagined fairy tales.
