Product Description

Rancher Jack West knows what it means to love a woman with all his heart and to lose her far too soon. A widower for seven long years, he thinks love and romance are a thing of the past, nothing more than cherished memories. He devotes himself to his grown son and his family, the horses they raise, and the land that has been theirs for three generations. He doesn’t know that life has a surprise in store for him in the form of Janet Killeen, the lovely FBI agent he threw off his land last winter.

The bullet that left Janet Killeen seriously wounded also tore a hole through her life. All she wants is a little peace and quiet in the mountains, a chance to feel like herself again. That chance comes to an abrupt end when she goes off the road in a snowstorm and winds up stranded alone in a ditch. The last person on earth she wants to see is that arrogant jerk Jack West, no matter how handsome he is. But from the moment Jack finds her and offers her his hand, she realizes there’s far more to this gruff cowboy than she had imagined.

But trouble is brewing at Cimarron Ranch. A deranged man with an inscrutable motive is moving in for the kill, threatening to end Jack and Janet’s romance before they can claim a love that is … Soul Deep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great story from Pamela Clare 3 July 2015

I just finished “Soul Deep” and what a terrific story. It’s been a while since Pamela Clare has published a book and this one doesn’t disappoint. It pulls you in from the very beginning and begs you to say “I want more” at the end. “Soul Deep,” like “Skin Deep”, is an ancillary story to Ms. Clare’s I-Team novels featuring secondary characters from that series. We were introduced to the hero, Jack West, in “Skin Deep” and he made a brief appearance in “Striking Distance.” Janet Killeen, the heroine, was introduced in “Striking Distance” where she was seriously wounded as part of her duties as an FBI agent. “Soul Deep” picks up many months later as she is slowing pulling the pieces of her life back together again and steeling herself to return to duty, albeit as a desk jockey. Jack, a third-generation rancher, met Janet originally in “Striking Distance” and theirs was not an auspicious start to any type of relationship. They make up for it in this book. Both are mature adults, he is 63, she is 45, but the love that develops between them only proves that romance, heat, sex, and love are not limited to the young, but, perhaps, have a greater depth and intensity because of their maturity. Both have lived, loved, lost, and it is precisely those experiences that become the foundation for something rich and warm. The book has a bit of suspense – more as a plot driver than a focus – and there are laugh-out-loud moments that will remind you how important family is. And Jack is very definitely a family man. But above all this is a love story. It’s about two people given a second chance. It’s about two people learning to trust one another and overcoming fears. It’s about changes and taking risks. It’s about life.
5.0 out of 5 stars Finally more mature main characters! 25 November 2015

A classical Pamela Clare I-Team book. And of course I loved it. I liked the fact that both main characters were more mature than the heroes and heroines that feature in so many book of genre fiction. I loved that Jack and Janet opted for a frank and honest relationship between them. Their insecurities where such that I could easily relate to them, which made this part of the book realistic enough for me.
The book concentrated mainly on Jack’s and Janet’s second chances at live and how they fought for them . Hence, the suspense part was less prominent and definitely inferior to the romance part. Yes, the story line had its cheesy moments but the overall atmosphere and the outcome of the book was absolutely satisfactorily.

A must read for all I-Team fans AND others!

4.0 out of 5 stars At Any Age 24 August 2015

A new I-Team After Hours novella, involving peripheral characters to the main reporters on the "team". In Skin Deep, Nate West falls for Megan Hunter and brings her home to the Cimarron Ranch which he runs with his father, Army Ranger Jack.

Jack formerly had a run-in with a sassy FBI agent, that Jack promptly threw off his land. A year later, that agent, Janet Killeen, is broken in body and soul, having taken a bullet protecting her charge, an I-Team reporter. She has been physically damaged by the bullet and emotionally devastated by the side effects. When she is stranded on the road past Cimarron, Jack finds her and rescues her. Wary, she is still a little standoffish until she begins to see the real Jack - charming, helpful, willing to go out of his way to make her comfortable. Hmmmm-there's a sexual attraction, too. Who'd have thought? Certainly not Jack, who was happily married until the day his wife died and never thought he'd find a woman so attractive again. His age is a factor - in his mind, not in Janet's. There's also a good but obvious subplot about someone harming one of Jack's prize horses. Nate and Megan make an appearance, too on the way to another HEA. Good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pamela Clare's at her best... 2 July 2015
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Pamela Clare is back!! In full force... Soul Deep may be "only" a novella, but Pamela strings us along with wit, love, little suspense and people you can't help but love.
Soul Deep is the story of Jack - widowed for 7 years - a man in his prime, a hero for many, old in his own mind (63) but a man most of us would kill for. Janet is an FBI agent - wounded in the service, a smart independent woman who is blown away by this man that almost nurtures her back to life.
Pamela "always" puts a story within the lovestory - and this is no exception. There is a little suspense - but it all comes together beautifully.
If you have never read an I-team book you can still read this as a stand-alone, but why cheat yourself out of a great series? Go back to Extreme Exposure - the first I-team book and fall in love with Reece and Kara... and just take a journey you will never be sorry you took... Enjoy...
5.0 out of 5 stars Second Chance for a Beautiful Love 25 January 2016

This is my new contemporary favorite from this author. She is brilliant at capturing the emotions and nuances in her characters. She crafts a story so beautifully with all the elements necessary. There is such depth to her characterizations, primary characters as well as the secondary characters. You really know these people. You're not looking through a window at a story, but living it as you read.
This story is set on a working ranch in Colorado. A woman FBI special agent, SA Janet Killeen is stranded in her car in a blizzard before she reaches her destination. She has recent external and internal injuries from a bullet that shattered her hip and her life. Rancher and widower Jack West, a brusk man with a tender heart rescues her from the snow and begins to help her rebuild her confidence and heal the internal scars that left Janet feeling like less than a woman. It's a second chance at a beautiful love for both of them.
The scenery is beautiful and I appreciated the detail included in the daily operations of running a ranch and the raising and breeding of horses.
I have rated almost every book from this author 5 stars because she simply deserves it and this tender story is one of her best.
