Boss fights: Nioh 2 list of bosses and Boss design is really good, but sadly the actual fight feels like a chore. Boss fights are similar to fighting your regular enemy, just wait and bait. The bosses are easy to figure out, but being brought to the dark realm will make the fight harder. Boss fights will also be a battle of attrition. You do little damage, but a nice 3 piece combo from the boss will send you back to your shrine. I recommend saving your Yokai shifts for when the boss HP is really low.
Nioh 2 does have a few good things going for it. Character customization is one of the best in the industry. Visiting the Blacksmith and upgrading your gear is really cool. It's pretty sweet when you can ' refashioned ' your gear. I thought the story was good, and the cut scenes, and there's a bit of humor during the scenes.
I finally finished Nioh 2 ( solo ). Normally I like to play NG+ but not this lol. I'd rate this at a 7/10
New features over the original are Soul Cores that are dropped by Yokai that have powerful abilities and stats on them that can be equipped and used. The burst counter system is a nice touch, too. Enemies will flash read, giving you an opportunity to use a Burst Counter move on them for high stamina damage. If you miss time it however, well, depending on your health you will not survive... So reading your foes move-set is even more important in Nioh 2.
Co-op is a little more user friendly in this title than its predecessor, you will still need to beat a level before you can partake in jolly co-operation, but once you do it is a good way to help get into what makes Nioh so amazing, without the penalty--or fear-- of dying in your games progression. you get rewards with Exp and items for successful missions with others.
Nioh is no mere Soulsborne clone, if you try to play this game like Dark Souls it will end horribly for you. It is like Team Ninja took the lethal precision of their Ninja Gaiden series, put is some Souls-like elements and added a pinch of Diablo loot and said add a little Ninja Scroll anime while you are at it!
These games take a while to learn if you are new to them, but when everything clicks you really DO feel like you have achieved something and not just been handed a Service Award.
All in all these games are not for everyone, yet if you take a punt on it, you may just find yourself in love with a new genre of gaming that will be addicting from that point on. Nioh 2 is a sensation sequel, I have been a Souls fan since the beginning with Demon's Souls and I put Nioh 2 right alongside Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3.
