Third time's the charm?

Successful financier Carrie St. John has endured all the romantic disasters she thinks she can in a lifetime. That is, until her fiancé jilts her the weekend of her bridal shower. Carrie can't show up unaccompanied again and admit to her family she's a failure. When Carrie meets Mike Davis at an historic country inn, the recently ditched hottie offers to help fill the bill. But, at what price?

Mike Davis was finally going to prove his old high school buddies wrong. Voted "most likely to remain a bachelor" in his prestigious prep school's class, he was looking forward to ushering in his fiancée at his upcoming reunion. Suddenly empty-handed, he's got a new ploy in mind involving the ultra sexy and accomplished Carrie. But Mike doesn't bank on giving up his heart in the bargain. Neither does Carrie, who is soon to learn there are things that even money can't buy...

Carrie didn't know if the music was still playing, or if it was merely the pulse of her heart that was lending rhythm to her feet. All she knew was that she felt protected, sheltered, and loved. Wholly and unconditionally drawn straight into Mike's warmth. They couldn't have been more connected had they been in bed together. Or maybe they were, and she was dreaming.

Mike reached up and stroked her hair, causing her to melt into him another inch. He'd never peel her off now. Carrie couldn't even say where Mike ended and she began. The only thing she knew for certain was that she never wanted this feeling to stop.

A short contemporary romance with moderate heat, approximately 50,000 words.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good contemporary romance 4 May 2014

I liked this story for the most part. It was well written and well edited and the main characters were likeable people with interesting supporting family. While it was a nice story, neither the hero or heroine really stood out for me as particularly memorable. The author borrows from the classic story " The Gift" and gives it a twist to give the end a bit of tension.

The characters meet at a hotel, both there for a romantic get away and both get dumped by their significant others. When Carrie throws her engagement ring into the hotel pool, it's recovered by Mike, who's diving to find the ring that the girl he just proposed to threw into the pool on her way out the door. After recovering both rings, Mike feels obligated to return Carrie's to her, even though she insists that she doesn't want it. As they talk, they discover they're in similar fixes-Carrie isn't ready to tell her grandma and aunts (who raised her) that her wedding is cancelled because the shower they planned is the next day and she doesn't want to disappoint them. Mike has a big private prep school 10 year reunion coming up next week and as he was a scholarship kid who was voted "most likely to remain a bachelor", he doesn't want to go alone. Of course they agree to help each other and of course, they are instantly attracted. It looks and feels like a case of insta-lust which seems to be so prevalent in romance stories lately.

There are sexual scenes, but nothing terribly graphic, more of the "fade to black" variety, no violence or profanity. The story is fairly sweet in the way the main characters treat each other and their families, but I felt it was an enjoyable but average story overall.

Heat factor moderate.

The Sometime Bride is a simply delightful book to read. It
will make you sad at times but only momentary because then
the humorous side of the story starts shining through.
Two couples unknown to each other also visit the same bed
and breakfast inn resort. Each for two related but unrelated
love reasons.
Couple number one….Mike Davis is going to propose to his
girlfriend, Alexia. Big mistake… as no way does Alexia want
to move on to a higher relationship. Alexia takes the ring Mike
presents to her and throws in into the inns swimming pool. She
tells mike to stay for the rest of the weekend on her.
And Alexia departs!!
On to Couple number two…..Carrie St John was brought to the
inn by her fiancé Winston. Winston tells Carrie to keep the
engagement ring her gave her but that he loves some else.
Winston tells her stay for the rest of the weekend and to “enjoy”
the weekend. Then Winston departs!!!
Off to the pool Carrie goes to throw her ring into the very
bottom. Mike who is look to reteive the ring Alexis tossed into
the pool finds the ring that Carrie has thrown into the pool and
the story takes off like a firecrackers.
I really loved the chemistry between the main characters. They
were both good main characters with strong supporting
characters. Both families add flavor to the story.
A good quick read!!

I loved this sweet story about two people that meet at exactly the right time in their lives. I did feel that the ending was maybe a little bit rushed but the epilogue wrapped the story up nicely.

Charming romance that began for this couple at an inn. They each were dumped by their previous fiancé and happened to meet the other by the pool. She was feeling betrayed & threw her ring into the pool, crying & feeling sorry for herself. He was searching the depths of chlorine for the $3000 ring his ex had previously discarded in the same pool. He finds the sparkle of her ring, then his own and meets her on the pool deck. Striking up conversation was easy, the rings of course.

This love story is how they get to know one another. The secrets they keep to themselves are told in the end, but not truly secrets when you have true love.

The writing is engaging, keeps the reader anxious to learn what this couple will do next and is a fun read. Sexual chemistry, but not detailed sex scenes. Best of all, ends with a HEA. Enjoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than described. 29 May 2014

From what the book description said I was expecting something totally different BUT this actually turned out better than I thought. I was expecting the heroine to be a tough and somewhat full of herself business woman. Thankfully she wasn't at all. It turned out to be a very sweet and sometimes funny romance. It has all the girly romantic stuff a romance junky like me would want. A meet cute moment, him showing jealousy, sweet intimate moments and dates. I really liked it. My only complaint is, it all ended too neatly. I was waiting for a little bit of a struggle or some point of drama to pop in but there is none. Also as a heads up, there are some intimate descriptions but no explicit sex. So in a nutshell its a mostly clean, sweet and satisfying romance.
