Product Description

I am not just a Man.

I am a Husband. A new father.

A Soldier.

I am Jason Reynolds.

For me, serving my country was supposed to make a better life for us all. Injured overseas, my only focus is healing for my family. When I’m given the news that my family will never be the same, I find myself drowning in pain. Talk about life being a cruel bitch.

In search of a solitary life, I take up residence in a town far from my shattered life. The Happy Endings Resort seems to be the perfect place for me to nurse my wounds. Finding a job is easy, and Brandon’s garage is the perfect place to wallow in my misery. Somehow, Brandon seems to understand my need to work until I’m exhausted, and to keep to myself. He gives me the space I need to overcome my wounds . . . all of them. Little did I know he’d have a niece.

Will these demons haunt me forever and drive me to hide from everyone and everything I’ve ever known? Will The Happy Endings Resort give me the solitude I need? Will the people here be the cure I didn’t know I was longing for?

3.0 out of 5 stars good writing but story felt WAY unfinished 30 September 2015

Huh. Okay, so I would have really liked this story a lot if it'd felt complete. Unfortunately, the ending was very abrupt & left the story feeling incomplete. Maybe this is normal for this series, I do not know. I just know I'm quite disappointed. :(

There were pros - the story was well written, told entirely from Jason's POV, and made me want to get to know more about him & Dawn. If the ending hadn't been BAM! THERE! this could have been a 5 star read for me. Someone needs to do some fan fic & give me about 3 more chapters. : )

Jason served his country with honor. But an injury has him waking up in a hospital learning that life will never be the same.

(Getting out of bed gets harder and harder each day. Hearing
them tell me I’d never be able to do my job again was horrible,
but being forced into retirement killed me. And yet, somehow
the news got worse. That was when I truly felt dead.)

Learning his family was forever changed forced him into seclusion. How could he live again when his reason for living was gone? A gun shot stole his career and an accident stole his family.

(My life is over. A gunshot wound to the shoulder missed its mark.
Clearly it was meant for my heart, and now that’s being rectified.)

He wants nothing to do with anyone. He wants solitude, to spend his days and nights remembering the only real love he had. But instead of becoming another statistic Jason goes out and finds a job as a mechanic. There he can avoid talking to anyone. He spends his days working on cars and his nights with memories. When even those don’t help he runs on the beach. Anything to put the memories behind him.

(“As much as I love watching you sleep. I want to spend the last few
hours with you in my arms.”

But life has a funny way of changing things. Jason quickly becomes finds himself spending time with his boss’s niece, Dawn. He doesn’t want to hurt her or let her in. But he’s drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

When he goes away one weekend to find an escape from his thoughts of his past life and of Dawn, he runs into her. And from that meeting he embarks on forming a friendship, one he doesn’t think he wants with her. But soon he realizes that she wants more and he doesn’t believe he can give that to anyone, especially Dawn. He feels like he is doomed to live a life of solitude.

Dawn’s pas is just as heartbreaking. So much of what causes her to be cautious is similar to why Jason is who he is now. Dawn knows that if they are to more forward and explore what is clearly evident between them she must tell him of her past. He knows the time has come, he must do the same, he must tell someone about his past. Both of them have pasts that haunt them. Both have hearts that aren’t complete.

(“Our two broken hearts could easily melt together into
one fully functioning love story.”

Is it time for life, his life to move on. It’s time for her to move forward. Can he take the risk? Can she?

(“But what if we don’t? What if I break the rest of your
heart? I’m not sure I could live with myself if I
knew I did that.”

I started this book one night and made it less than 10% in before I was crying. I knew I’d have to go back and start again. I read it two times in a row to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Both times I was bawling.

Jason broke my heart at the start, but slowly mended it. This was a gut-wrenching book that was full of emotions. I will be in a book hangover for a few days. But it was worth everything I went through to get to the end. To see if two broken souls could mend each other and become one.

Lisa is an incredible story teller. I felt like I was right there with the characters, living what they were living. They were so real to me, I wanted to hug Jason. Lisa has quickly become a must read author for me.

Anything inside of () is a quote or line from the book. Unfortunately it won't post the way I had it written.
5.0 out of 5 stars Healing a Hero!! 1 October 2015

Jason Reynold's worked hard to make his dreams come true. He's got the career he wants, the house he wants, and the family he wants.

After Jason receives bad news he ends up at the Happy Endings Resort, gets a new job but no matter how he busy he stays or how deeply he buries himself in his day to day activities, Jason finds he still can't escape nighttime.

Can the friends Jason is slowly making be enough to heal this hero? Can they be enough to make him look forward to what tomorrow may bring?

The author created the most amazing characters, they were so easy to love. Her portrayal of Jason Reynolds is the way I have noticed a lot of the veterans that I have known after coming home react. She did an amazing job of writing a story that was easy to get into, and her story brought out my emotions. I look forward to more from this author.
5.0 out of 5 stars A must read! 3 October 2015

This story was heart wrenching. It had my tears flowing from the beginning of the book. The heartbreak Jason and Dawn had experienced was more than any one person should ever have to endure. I knew Jason's history from the get-go but had to keep reading until my eyes were hurting to discover what Dawn's story was. Of all my guesses, it was certainly not what I had imagined. WOW! No spoiler alerts here. The book was written entirely from Jason's POV by a female author (Lisa Survillas). That's not easy, but Lisa rocked it! Is this a must read? You betcha! I loved it!
5.0 out of 5 stars Tears 15 October 2015

I love a military theme story especially since I'm a military brat I can relate to their life in a way. This one brought me to tears. To loose everything ver night has to be a nightmare but living hell breathing when you feel like you don't want to or deserve to is hard. Then find something to live for but feeling guilty or not deserving is harder. I'm glad Jas could overcome that even if he felt it was a little fast and undeserved.
