Product description

Product Description

Words can trick us.
Smoke obscures objects on the edge of our vision.
A mirror may reflect, but the eye sees what it wants.
A delicate scent can evoke another time and place, a memory from the past.
And a sentence can deceive you, even as you read it.

I have to use the term intrigued when it came to book. It’s got 17 short stories, none of them overlap, they are all different and some left me with my heart hammering in my chest, while others left me with a delighted grin.
I made my way through the book in one sitting purely because I got lost in the stories, the best kind of lost. There are several in there that I would love to read a full length novel of. I read the first one and private messaged the author saying ‘oh wow!’
McHeyzer didn’t let my hopes fade – even writing a little insight story into two of the characters from her novel Grit and another for Hit 149. McHeyzer has certainly hit the nail on the head with this addition to her growing stable of works.

Loved every single story. Loved that I didn't know where each one was going to take me, and I love that we may see some of these characters again in their own story later on down the track. I love everything that Margaret writes. I've read every book and recommend them all.

Every time I start to read a book by this amazing lady I am totally blown away. With each book she just gets better I just wish she would write faster! From start to finish I didn't want to put it down

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Okay 12 December 2014
By Jessica Madden - Published on Amazon.com

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this book. I finished this last night and I’ve considered how I felt and what I wanted to say in this review all day, and I’m still a bit unsure. On one hand, Margaret is a very talented writer, and this was incredibly unique. Part of me appreciates that, but for me personally, I didn’t overly enjoy reading this. I’m not big on short stories, and this is really just one random chapter before it moves on to new people. I didn’t have time to connect to anyone and now I think about it, maybe it would have been better to read it one story at a time, with a break in-between. I read this in one sitting and maybe I didn’t wait long enough to appreciate each story. I’m not sure. I am impressed by this author and there are some great reviews for this, so obviously it has connected with some, I just didn’t love it. I will continue to buy Margaret’s future work and I wish her well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted endings you'll never guess 11 December 2014

This author never disappoints! Short stories with a twist... I swear you will NOT be able to figure out what the end is. Some are sexy, some are funny but all of these stories make you wonder WTF??? Highly recommended as all her books are. As good or better than "Nocte" for messing with your head IMHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing 2 February 2015
By Rachelhull - Published on Amazon.com

I have been fortunate enough to have had the privilege to read all Magaret McHeyzer's books and have not been disappointed at all. I just love her style of writing and how her books have kept me captivated from start to finish. Her books deal with issues that are real and too many people just turn there heads away from. Smoke and Mirrors is a collection of short stories that keep you wanting more. The stories all have something about them that motivated the reader to want more Thank you again Margaret McHeyzer for another great read

Another 5 star Margaret read for me. I would/ will/ do read anything Margaret writes. Loved all the short quick stories. I definitely can picture them as full length novels. After each one I read I said it was my favorite until I got to the next one.The cover is fabulous and definitely recommend reading. Thank you for another great read Margaret.

Very heartbreaking yet gut retching hard on the mind and soul. Makes you think and see a world outside your box. Truly a view of mankind many have never wanted to see or ever heard of. Enjoyed this read, well written and a recommended read.
