As those examples show, what's obvious and what actually occurs are two different things.
Peter is a champion for cooperation - or rather, close collaboration - between sales and marketing and not only does he make a compelling argument for this but he shows how to achieve it.
My observation is that in many organisations marketing complains that sales doesn't follow up their leads adequately, sales complains marketing sends them rubbish leads and both are right.
Working together with shared goals makes a massive difference to a company's success and enlightened companies that follow Peter's prescription will thrive - and both sales and marketing will share the credit.
