Slow Burn is a great read. Its not your typical Biker read. The talking is not all forced or crude. Rock actually sounds like a half decent human who you would want to meet. It is a little slower than other MC reads as it takes place over years, but the characters are lovable and you get roped in and want to know what happens. Hope is not a weak damsel in distress, she is independent and knows what she wants.
If you are looking for a MC read that isn't filled with curse words, crude sex, and a reality that seems anything but then i highly recommend this read. Slow Burn is well thought out and structured, its not forced and it flows effortlessly.

Slow Burn is a great easy read, a little different from your usual MC Romance. From the moment Hope lays eyes on the gorgeously rugged outlaw biker in his orange jumpsuit the chemistry is steamy. Definitely worth the read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow Burn was Slow magic 17 October 2014

**some small spoilerish aspects are in this review (but very small)
Any 5 star read makes me happy add one with a hero like Rock and I am over the moon. One day while both in court on opposite sides of the law Rock and Hope meet. Seeing her in the courtroom Rock can't believe his eyes and when she opens her mouth he just likes her more. When his attorney doesn't show Rock gets Hope to help him, and then he doesn't want to let her go.

But Hope is married, happily married. Helping Rock is the answer to all the bills that keep stacking up, but the attraction Hope feels for Rock isn't anything she will ever do anything about. With Hope around all the time Rock finds it harder and harder not to fall for her, and when his MC life may put her in danger he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe.

One year later and Rock still can't stop thinking of Hope, when he see's a notice in the paper that Hopes husband has died, Rock knows she will be devastated and though he couldn't have her he only ever wanted her happy. Hope never though she would be a widow so young and is devastated by her husbands death. When Rock shows back up in her life he offers her kindness and a distraction from all the pain and then he disappears again.

Hope is Rocks even if she doesn't know it so he sets his mind to give her a year. But the year has been hard for Hope and when her friend see's she hasn't gotten any better she steps in and calls Rock. Now Rock refuses to leave the woman he loves and will do all he can to keep her safe, and even if they come from complete different worlds Both Hope and Rock want this love they found when they never guessed they could have anything like this.

I hate reading books where a spouse dies and the hero or heroine is the OW/OM is a sense, because the spouse never gets over the death and I am left thinking that if the spouse was alive the hero or heroine would never stand a chance or worse that they are second, nothing about that says romance to me. This book didn't have that problem at all. I believed that even though Rock loved Hope in the end because he loved her he wanted her happy. I never thought while reading this book Hope won't ever love Rock and he will always be second. I believed in their love and I fell more in love with Rock the more love, kindness and care he showed Hope.

Rock was a great hero, hot, possessive, strong, caring are all what I think of when I was meeting Rock. Hope was smart and strong and I loved watching these two people meet and fall in love. This is a great romance and different which made it all the better and stand out even more. Slow burn is a perfect title because it describes Hope and Rocks love perfectly and shows us their journey. The side characters and the world Ms. Lake created was wonderful, and just sucked me in all the more into this story.

I can't wait for book two, though the next book in this series is about Rock and Hope this book does not end on a cliffhanger, their story just isn't complete. Autumn Jones Lake did something when she created Rock that most romance authors fail at or never try. She created a hero who was very strong and possessive but so very caring and strong for Hope. What he did and what he thought about for Hope made me fall head over heels in love with him. Hope was his and he was going to do what he had to to get her including getting himself set.

I can't recommend this book enough, its a stand out among so many MC romance books (which is one of my favorite genre's). Autumn Jone Lake is an author to watch and one I plan to read more books from in the future. I can't wait to get Rock and Hopes HEA, but I also hope she writes about some of the other club members as well as Hopes friends. This book easily surpasses 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love a well written and intelligent biker romance...and this is it =) 21 October 2014

It is no secret that I absolutely LOVE the biker romance genre...I have read so many different book series and have quite a few favorites...and having spent 25 years married to a man who was in an MC when I met him, I definitely have my own opinions on what makes for a great biker read.
This was one smart, well-written and wonderful book...I like a lot of maturity and intelligence in my biker books. Just because the genre is flooded with what I would term as "sensationalized biker porn" filled with insta-sex hook-ups, violent and torturous club wars and badass alpha males treating all the women like "bitches" doesn't mean they are all like that...and thank God for this new addition to my library because it was awesome!
When Hope is assigned the bail hearing case of Lost Kings president Rock, at the last minute in court, it begins a complicated and emotional relationship between them, that spans over a long period of time. It is "lust at first sight" for both of them but Hope was married, and being the honest and faithful woman that she was, it was not going to happen.
Slow Burn was the perfect title for this book, it describes exactly the process of what happens to their feelings for each other as they go from lawyer/client to lovers and I can't even express how exciting and steamy hot it was to witness.
Unlike so many other books out there, it starts with a kiss and ends with only a kiss for a long time...nature's course slowly moving at a realistic pace and with thought and honesty given to every move that is made between them. When Hope's world is shattered due to unexpected tragedy, it is Rock who steps in and does more for her with one simple ride than anyone else is able to do...and this after he had honorably walked away from her in respect to her marriage. What happens when these two finally give in to their long suppressed emotions (and after waiting a respectable time for Hope to be available again) is nothing short of glorious...this author can write some breath-takingly beautiful scenes and I needed a cold shower after reading that first, emotionally right on and sexy as
All of the dialogue was very realistic and the actions/reactions of the characters were not outrageous or unbelievable, but showed maturity and honesty...not once did I have to roll my eyes in disgust.
I can safely say this series has moved up to another one I will watch for and follow...I HATED this book to end!!
Fantastic book and thanks to a couple of authors who recommended it and to my friend Leslie for buying it for me =)

4.0 out of 5 stars Love me some MC romance. 21 October 2014
By Bookaholic Mama - Published on

“Part of me realized I was a little obsessed, but I couldn’t muster up a single give-a-fuck.”

Rochlan (Rock) North, thirty-something outlaw motorcycle club president has a problem. He’s being arraigned but his lawyer hasn’t shown up. That’s ok; he wouldn’t mind being handled by the hot lawyer who just finished up with her case. He’s been married, he’s over commitment. He has worked his way through the MC women and the strippers at the club. Now he wants Hope Kendall.

“Couldn’t I take a few minutes to stalk someone in peace?”

Hope Kendall, thirty something lawyer, has been married for 6 years to the man she dated for 6 years prior to their wedding. Sure she’s noticed other men in that time, but none have made her feel the way Rock North does. How can a woman who helps uphold the law be attracted to a man who breaks it? Even worse, how can a married woman be attracted to another man? The only solution is to stay away from him.

“Rochlan, I rolled the name through my head. Imagine whispering it in the dark as he. . . No. No!”

I enjoyed this book. It’s not like other MC books. There is an air of respect for women and the marital commitment. There are some pretty funny lines. Rock isn’t always the bad ass biker; he has his softer moments, although he is by no means soft. There were some hot scenes and the story line is solid. The book takes place over a two year (or more) period, which I like because it didn’t feel rushed. They meet, the fall in love, drama, happily ever after. Not that I’m putting those books down, I read them and enjoy them too, but I liked that this book didn’t rush the relationship. It is told from both Hope’s and Rock’s POV which is ALWAYS a plus for me. I give this book 4 stars with 2.5 hands down the pants.

“This woman was turning me into a crazy-a$$ stalker.”

3.0 out of 5 stars different 18 October 2014

When Hope meets Rock, she is a married attorney at law and has to represent him for a bail hearing at the very last minute. Rock wants Hope, and is thrown when she politely, but firmly turns him down. In an effort to keep her close, Rock holds Hope on a retainer for his MC club. When that puts her in danger, he cuts her loose in the most devastating way. But things change, and Hope comes under his radar again, and this time, he is not letting go.

Okay, so. I have issues with this book.

Firstly, its written in the first person, and from Hope and Rock's POV. Which is fine, normally. What is not fine, is that it flips to one to the other with only a paragraph spacing and some stars. It was annoying, that the changes weren't headed, I was unabe to leave the page in the middle of a section, I had to make sure that I put the book down at the end of one, at a change so I knew were I was. A simple title headed Hope, or Rock would have sufficed.

AND it doesn't end, it just sort of finishes! It just goes....poof...done. I felt there should have been a more DEFINITE end to this book. Now, I don't usually read the notes from authors at the end of the book, but I did this one. Don't know why, I just did. It gives a little more insight to why this book was sort left hanging, as there will a second book with these two later in the year. But still it felt all off to me.

Now I've finsihed moaning, here's what I liked. This is, first and foremost, a romance. Yes its backdrop is a MC club, and all that which MIGHT go on in such a club. There is stripping, and drug use, drug growing and turf wars. BUT this book doesn't dwell too much on those things, it dwells on Hope and her reaction to Rock, and vice versa. I did love that we heard from them both, even in the way it was written.

Its not your usual MC romance, granted, and I did like that. The time line is over a year, and nothing is rushed. The story doesn't feel rushed, just the odd ending. It has violence, but nothing is described, its all inferred. I like that they inferred, rather than told you, how the issue with a rival MC club was settled, I REALLY liked that. The scenes when Rock and Hope come together are raw and emotional, but not in a lovey dovey sort of way. It is well written, and now I've read this one, I should like to read the second book to see is they get their HEA.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Did I Not Find This Book Sooner....... 27 April 2015

This is a sweet MC read. Yes Rock(H) is an outlaw MC alpha male, but he is an alpha male with a healthy respect for women. That's something you do not read often in the MC romance genre. While this MC romance is sweet, it certainly is NOT corny or sappy. This is the story of Rock(H) and Hope(h). Rock is the Prez of the 1%er MC the Lost Kings. Hope is a Lawyer. Rock and Hope meet in a court room and Rock is smitten from the moment he sets eyes on her. Hope, however, is married, and happily so. How these two come together is the basis for this first installment of the Lost Kings MC.

I enjoyed Rock and Hope, both as individual characters and as a couple. Their developing relationship was well paced, well written, and quite hot. I liked them and I am looking forward to reading how their relationship plays out. The Lost Kings are a 1%er MC. They deal in both legal and illegal activities. They are not portrayed as violent and hardcore as other 1%er MC romances are. My take on this fictional 1%er MC is that it is a little more sophisticated. The MC compound is more upscale and well managed. It was fun to read something different for a change. But make no mistake. These 1%ers take their business, territory, and members seriously and will do whatever it takes to protect it/them.

This book is mostly a romance. Yes there is MC business, but most happens behind the scenes. I liked this first installment. It had a different feel to it than other MC romances I have read. I liked Rock's respectful attitude towards women. He is still a badazz, but he is a badazz with a brain and a heart. I do not usually go for the sweet romances but this one hooked me. Characters, dialogue, setting, story, sex, and writing were all good in my book. I look forward to reading the next two installments. If they are as good as this one, then I will be one very happy reader. Yes, I would recommend.
