Product Description

From the author of the bestselling novels Only the Innocent and The Back Road

How far would you go to hold on to the people you love?

When Olivia Brookes calls the police to report that her husband and children are missing, she believes she will never see them again. She has reason to fear the worst; this isn’t the first tragedy that Olivia has experienced. Now, two years later, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is called in to investigate this family again, but this time it’s Olivia who has disappeared. All the evidence suggests that she was here, in the family home, that morning.

But her car is in the garage, and her purse is in her handbag – on the kitchen table. The police want to issue an appeal, but for some reason every single picture of this family has been removed from albums, from phones, from computers.

And then they find the blood…

Has the past caught up with Olivia?

Sleep Tight – if you can. You never know who’s watching.

Her books draw you in from the first paragraph. She writes so well of things so many of us have experienced, although to heightened levels. Tom is becoming a much more rounded character as we discover more of his past, and things that have affected him, and his fellow detectives are also becoming more rounded. I personally find Ms Abbott's books to be my kind of thrillers. They follow on, in as much as you have the same lead characters, but operating with a different set of crimes and killers. Ms Abbott also takes you on the most wonderfully descriptive pseudo-holidays, lol. She selects parts of England that I haven't been to before, and her talent for word-painting is simply excellent. I really feel I know what these places look like. Very entertaining. Have read all three and will keep going as long as she'll keep writing for me, lol. Enjoy

I do love a Racel Abbott read I must confess. So when this was a Kindle Daily deal it was a no brainer for me. Olivia is controlled by her husband Robert. He watches her even when they are in the same room. Early in the book, he takes the children away, telling her he’s taking them for a pizza, but doesn’t return straight way. She knows he is giving her a message here – what he will do if she leaves him. The story gathers momentum as we follow Liv’s point of view, her husband, her best friend and the police who try to fathom what has gone on, as Liv and the children go missing.
The writing as always, is excellent, and the beginning of the novel is tight and claustrophobic. It becomes tense and exciting as the hunt is on. Fans of the policeman Tom Douglas will be pleased to see him playing a lead role in the story. There are twists and turns in this tightly constructed plot and towards the end I felt my hear t racing as I hoped for a good outcome for a trio of innocent children. A bloody good read!

I have read all of Rachel Abbott's work and what really works for her is her consistency in delivering a well-structured, well delivered narrative with interesting characters with mysterious backstories being continually propelled along the narrative arc at just the right pace. I have never completely figured out the ending of her stories beforehand. She is masterful at suspense writing. I imagine I will continue reading her work for so long as she continues to write. Her storytelling skill combined with consistently delivering an original and unpredictable story makes her work a staple in the thriller/suspense genre. The only reason I give her work 4 stars is because I personally enjoy a touch more focus on complex and creative language and imagery throughout the story rather than so much attention paid to the propulsion of the narrative. But nonetheless, a very solid novel, like all of her novels have been. 4 stars.

There are some very dubious husbands in Rachel Abbott's books, some are ineffectual some are creepy and others downright homicidal. I won't give away the shortcomings of Robert, the husband in 'Sleep Tight' but he's yet another unsavoury spouse. The book opens with Robert's wife Olivia being hysterical because Robert has taken their three small children and disappeared.

This author's favourite police characters enter the story, handsome Tom Douglas and perky Becky Robinson each with their own romantic backstories. The normality of the police romances are the perfect foil for the slowly unveiled horror that is Olivia's love life. This is a masterful book with tension drawn very tight yet its always believable. If you are looking for humour or idealised reality this is not for you. But if you want a book your cardiologist would warn you against, this is it. Heart stopping thrills all the way through.

OMG! I adore Rachel Abbott's books! The characters are well rounded and have very different personalities, but it is the suspense that I really love. Every book has a different story, but the characters are mainly the same, though some pop up in other books. The suspense in each book is just fantastic. I read many thrillers etc, and usually find I can figure out who done it, but not in these books until the very end. I haven't been reading much of late, but these books have brought me back into it and I just can't stop. Is there a support group for fans of Rachel Abbott??!!!!!

I loved this book even though it started off a bit slowly. I couldn't put it down until I had finished the book.
