Sports Comedy Fiction. Not sure that is a category but it is now. Slammin’ is a really fun read and hits on all cylinders. There’s something in this book for everyone - not just the tennis obsessed. The author takes special care in crafting his characters - no details are left behind. He can clearly go deep on tennis stats from decades past just as he can make references to fine wine and 70’s muscle cars.
The funny bits make me think of David Sedaris and his command of the sport like David Foster Wallace in his piece on Federer. Its got a bit of intrigue and a dash of Silicon Valley. Culminating in an entertaining read that kept me coming back for more.
Mr. Cootsona taps into the feeling we all have (all of us scratching to move from 3.5 to 4.0)… bouncing the ball three times and make-believing like you are Serena.
Looking forward to the sequel and Wally’s return to the tour.
