Product description

pls follow these steps to install MAC OS:
1. Make sure to move to High Sierra while still on your old drive, so that a newer firmware is installed that can handle NVME.
2. Do a full backup to your TimeMachine.
3. Create a High Sierra Installer on a bootable USB stick.
4. Open the macbook and disconnect the battery while switching out the drive and make sure both adapter and new SSD sit snug. Finally reconnect the battery before closing the shell.
5. Insert the Installer USB stick from step 2, and press the option key while the machine starts. Once it's up you can now go to the disk utils to format the new drive. After formatting the disk you can now restore from Time Machine.

I was a bit worried before I bought this. The negative reviews about kernel panics and blank screens resuming from sleep had me feeling a bit trepid.

Cloned the original Apple 128GB SSD in a 2014 MBP to a new WD Blue SN550 with the aid of a NVMe to USB3 adapter.

The original drive already had a clean install of Catalina on it. APFS formatted.

Shutdown and fitted the Sintech adapter to the WD and installed in the MBP.

Booted up and found the Apple logo took about 7-9 seconds to appear after power on as mentioned by others.
So shut down and carried out a PRAM reset.

Amazingly, as you can see in the video attached, the delay is gone! It boots up nice and quick.

Next was to test resume from sleep. So PMSET shows SleepDelay is set to the default 10800 seconds. This means whilst on battery, the machine will hibernate after 3 hours of sleep.

So I put it to sleep at 2:30pm by closing the lid with the charger unplugged. It was playing a YouTube video at the time. At 6pm I opened the lid expecting a blank screen. To my surprise it awoke instantly and resumed playing the video exactly where it left off.

Pretty pleased with it so far. I'll update this review if anything different happens.

Note, this is the new version where the socket contacts are covered at the back so didn't have to cover them with tape or anything.

I had previously purchased another adaptor card here on Amazon for my A1502 MacBook pro, and had problems from the first boot. It would sometimes work, and then other times fail to detect the SSD at all. I thought that there must be a problem with my SSD, although both SSD and adaptor listed my Mac as being compatible.
I took a gamble, and purchased this converter as I didn't want to revert back to my external drive. It was immediately evident that when the SSD was inserted into the converter, that it felt like a more secure connection. Problem solved, and so far I've had no more issues.
