I'm slowly going through all of this author's books as I love a good gothic. Readers must keep in mind that these books are dated i.e. no technology and different views regarding relationships between romantic leads. In this one the granddaughter of a matriarch, she returns to the family home to bury her mother in the family burial plot. The h's mother was estranged from her mother for many years. The h is also aware that she is not welcome to stay at Silverhills, the family home. The h is determined to find out some of the family secrets, including how she got a severe scar on her face as a young child visiting Silverhills. The family home contains a host of interesting characters. The stern matriarch, the crazy aunt, the handsome family doctor and his son. There are more but it's an interesting book that I read in one sitting.

A granddaughter bringing her mother home to be set to rest at Silverhill, Malinda has no Idea the secrets she will uncover. The characters are believable and the suspense is real. Another great book by Phyllis Whitney.
