These Harrington brothers sure know how to keep us entertained! In SILVER PLAYER it’s time for Billy’s story. We have met him in previous books but all the books in this series stand alone, so readers can jump in at any point.
Now, Billy might be a functioning adult, with a successful business to boot, but he certainly has his middle child syndrome hang-ups. And his woes only increase when he battles with Roxie McAllister, aunt to the teen daughter he just found out about!
Like all of Dunbar’s books I’ve read, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions. There’s fun and laughter, hurt and tears, love and desire. I enjoy the way Dunbar slowly chisels away at the walls her characters have built up. It gives readers the chance to know these characters and to cheer them on as they work through their issues and ideally find love.
If you need some silver fox heroes in your lives, give this book and this series a go!

Silver Player is LB Dunbar’s second book in her Blue Ridge series, and tells the story of Billy Harrington, who we met in Silver Brewer. One of the Harrington siblings, Billy runs the pub and has a reputation around Blue Ridge as a ladies man.
We are soon introduced to Roxie, who owns the bookstore near Billy’s pub. Unbeknownst to Billy, Roxie is the aunt of his daughter, the teenage daughter he didn’t know existed until she walked into his pub and introduced herself, totally sending Billy into a state of shock! Roxie recently became guardian to her niece Sadie, when her sister died suddenly, with Sadie moving to Blue Ridge to be with her aunt (who also did not know the identity of Sadie’s father until Sadie met Billy for the first time)
We are shown an interesting past between Roxie and Billy, they have a love/hate relationship with lots of heated sparring, with Roxie not able to let go of Billy’s reputation as a ladies man, and at times I was frustrated with the short-sightedness of Roxie in seeing Billy with her preconceived notions, but he also played up to this, acting out the part of a love em and leave em man. It all adds to the drama of the story, as we follow the developing relationship between not only Roxie and Billy, but also Billy and Sadie.
Ms Dunbar writes amazing books about love in your 40’s, and I enjoyed the characters - both have emotion and baggage that comes with life at a certain age, and it creates an unique storyline. Neither Roxie or Billy are perfect, but this is what makes the story such a great read, as we unravel the layers of them both and discover their insecurities and how life has shaped both them into the people they are today. I liked reading about the complexities of the Harrington family, their dynamics and how each member relates to the others.
Overall, Silver Player is a book I would recommend to all fans of contemporary romance, who enjoy love over 40, a steamy romance and family sagas. Silver Player was a 5 star read for me, I laughed, smiled and felt the angst and I really look forward to reading more of this series. I received an early copy of this book, all opinions are my own and this is an honest review.

I was looking forward to this book - since I'm in the similar age bracket of the characters - BUT, I just couldn't get into to it, as hard as I tried. The main chick -Roxie - just annoyed me so much. Her constant internal chatter about how bad and how much of a player the main bloke is, was just too bloody much - seriously love, get over it.
I'm so sorry, I was fed up and couldn't finish the book.
I really liked the secondary characters or Grace and Clyde though.

L.B. Dunbar is one of my auto buys. I always know I will get a top class story and this one doesn't fail. I love how her characters are older, more relatable than perky 20 years olds. I am loving the Blue Ridge series and can't wait for more. I'm now going back to read her other novels again. Buy this one you won't regret this love story.

I have to say reading a book about people over forty always makes me smile it's real life. And once again L.B is at her best with the Harrington clan got to love the silver fox & foxes. This is Billy Harringtons story the player well so we are lead to believe, but all Billy want's Is to fit in he has his hang ups just like everybody else, but somethings you don't share according to billy and thats a lot believe me. Billy is a business man he runs his own bar brews his own beer and his damn good at it to. But what happens when a sixteen year old walks into his bar and announces that he is her dad words he never thought he would hear. Sadie has just lost her mum she come to live with her aunt Roxanne Mcallister the owner of a bookstore and Billy's enemy they have a love hate relationship. The sparks that fly between Billy and Roxanne is so great the banter they have will give you whip lash and I swear you will love it. Billy and Roxie take us on a rollercoaster ride will they get their HEA will it all work out you will have to read it find out. And believe me a book you really need to read.

Brilliant

Another brilliant book in this series.
I so loved Billy and Roxanne. They may have had their ups and downs but they were so connected with one another. They really deserved a happy ever after together.
Loved Sadie and her persona. Liked the fact she was her own person but had such a sweet and loving demeanour. So pleased they all had their HEA

Had problems with this one

I've loved many of L.B. Dunbar's books. This one...I almost didn't finish this one.
Good things:
The characters were older, which is a big draw for me. The surprise daughter was not new, but a good storyline.
Not So Good Things:
The H and h often behaved quite immaturely. Their dialogue was almost high school level at some points. Worse, their behavior seemed way too young for supposedly mature people. I know numerous people in their 60s who behave childishly, but that's really an exception. I found myself wondering if these characters were actually from a book for younger readers but used in this book instead. Thet just didn't fit as well as they should have.
The supposed "misinderstandings" particularly between the H and the h were handled very roughly. I felt like there were missing pages or even chapters there. The disparities between what was said and what was meant were huge, like canyon huge. It almost made it hard to get what was happening at some points. These misunderstandings were labored, like they were dropped in without much thought. It was disjointed.
The sex was good, but again seemed like it sometimes came from a juvenile perspective. Kind of a buzzkill.
Overall, I found this story disappointing.

Silver is IN!!

I don't care what anyone says (not that anyone is saying it), no one writes Silver Fox and over 40 beautiful women better than LB Dunbar. It's easy to read the blurb and think you know exactly where this story is going. Just do yourself a favor and give this one a shot. You will soon find out that Billy is not this empty headed player who cares about nothing more than dipping his wick. He is sooooo much more than that and whether or not we like it, he has reasons for the way he has been for the last however many years. Roxanne is a wonderfully feisty beautiful woman who had me truly laughing because I can't tell you how many times I wish I could just say what she says and just carry myself the way I want to without overthinking what everyone will think. The sparks these two create should set the town on fire and when they finally get on the same page, nothing can stop them. There are hurdles though but watching these two finally love THEMSELVES and believe in themselves is the journey I would take again.

I’m on the fence
Reviewed in the United States on 3 February 2020Verified Purchase
I am on the fence with this one. I liked the concept of the story but it left me feeling a little “meh”. I would have loved to see more dynamic between Billy Harrington and his daughter and witness their father/daughter relationship. We got small doses but not enough. I realize this is a romance novel between Billy Harrington, the town Playboy and Roxy McAllister, the bookstore owner whose sister passed away and left custody of her daughter Sadie to Roxy. Little does Billy know, Sadie is his daughter. Roxy has always had a crush on Billy and knowing her sister had a child with Billy after a one night stand is a little hard.
The constant bickering between Billy and Roxy was harsh. But then turn around and make out later like nothing happened.
I was confused by the relationship and just not excited by their romance. I would have also liked to see more interactions with Sadie and the Harrington family. I don’t know I just feel that parts were missing. I love this author and her age range of characters. I wanted to love this book. But it was just average for me.
