Product Description

Most ladies dream of finding a husband, but Etta Wilding-Marsh dreams of the law. Establishing a law school for women is the determined firebrand’s dearest ambition, and she has no time for distraction—and certainly no time for the wickedly handsome antagonist from her youth.

After years of annoying her from afar, Lord Christopher Hiddleston leaps at the chance to return to Cambridge and the fiery girl he has never forgotten. Now a successful Gothic novelist, Christopher will use his notoriety to support the school...and drive Etta wild.

A chance meeting leads to another, and then the firebrand and the antagonist find a passion of a different sort. But can a woman who dreams too much and a man who never does truly find a happily ever after?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and Alluring 28 April 2017

Format: Kindle Edition
Silk & Scholar is a short sweet story that will truly warm your heart. A perfect tale for all romance enthusiasts looking for a nice afternoon read.

I enjoyed the chemistry between the two leads. Etta Wilding-Marsh is an introvert, who has a passion for law at a time where women lawyers are unheard of. Such is her love for the profession that together with her friend, they sought out to revolutionize the industry and start a law school for women. What she didn't count on was falling in love... especially to Lord Christopher Hiddleston, the person who has antagonized her for 10 years sending unsolicited news clippings. But unknown to her, Lord Hiddleston has always stayed true to her. How their love for each other slowly blossomed throughout the book is truly a joy to read.

This is the first book that I have read from the author, but her writing was well done. This is book 4 of a series, but there was never any moment where I felt I needed to read the first 3 books. In fact, I am looking forward to pick up the first 3 books.

Overall, I very highly recommend this! Pick it up! It's worth the money.
5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely delightful! 15 June 2017

This is Book 4 in the Silk series, but stands perfectly well alone. And it is an absolute delight.
Etta Wilding-Marsh is a very unconventional young lady indeed. The daughter of a Cambridge don, she longs to study the law, an utter impossibility for a woman in the Regency era. She has only disdain for the irresponsible young men who take for granted that which she may never have, and her particular ire is reserved for Lord Christopher Hiddleston.

The lord never failed to accept an opportunity to rile her when they clashed during his studies, and the book opens with a hilarious exchange of correspondence where Christopher continually sends Etta newspaper clippings regarding his successes in first law and then his transition to being a well-paid author of wildly popular Gothic novels. Etta’s irate responses to the newsletter clipping were absolutely hysterical and I found myself laughing out loud any number of times.

When the book finally transitions into a narrative, Etta and Christopher meet again after a separation of quite a few years, and immediately Etta is on the defensive, convinced Christopher wishes only to amuse himself at her expense. She is, however, very wrong about that, though it takes her a while to discover it. Christopher also has some discoveries to make, most notably just how badly Etta has been neglected by her family and her very justifiable resentment at her exclusion from her chosen profession just because of her gender.

I absolutely loved Silk And Scholar. By turns funny and poignant, it had two delightful protagonists who were perfectly suited to each other, even though it took them a while to realise it. I cannot say the book was perfect because it did have quite a few errors - ‘I will track you done’ instead of ‘down’ was an early one that caught my eye - and anachronisms ‘he drove her absolutely mental’ was not something an early 19th century lady would have said. However, these could easily be caught by a competent editor and they certainly didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story. I’m happy to give Silk And Scholar five stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A delightful story 4 May 2017

Etta is lonely but she refuses to give into her feelings and to fight for her love of learning and the law. Christopher is a second son and a well known gothic novelist. This is a lighthearted and warm book. The characters are well fleshed out and the plot is different but holds your interest even though it is a novella. I very much enjoyed it and highly recommend it. I hope you like it as much as I did. I received this book for free for an honest review.
