Silent Lies: A gripping psychological thriller with a shocking twist Kindle Edition
‘Your husband didn’t kill himself.’
Five years rebuilding your life. Five words will destroy it again.
Mia Hamilton lived the perfect life with her husband, university teacher Zach, and their two-year-old daughter. But everything changed when Zach committed suicide on the same night one of his students vanished.
Five years later, just when Mia is beginning to heal, stranger Alison walks into her life, saying her husband didn’t kill himself.
Fragile, slight Alison leads Mia on a path into Zach’s past, and Mia begins to think she never really knew her own husband. As the secrets revealed get darker, Alison becomes harder to read, and Mia starts to wonder – why is Alison so keen to help?
And then a piece of the puzzle appears in an impossible place, and Mia has to ask, is she losing her mind, or should she be afraid for her life?
An absolutely unputdownable psychological thriller about obsession and buried secrets, with a brilliant twist. Fans of The Girl on the Train, Behind Closed Doors, and Gone Girl will be hooked from the very first page.

When Mia’s lost her husband 5 years ago when he committed suicide after it was considered he'd murdered a girl. Five years on and focusing on her daughter Freya, she has successfully moved on, running her own business and even has a new man in her life who adores them both.
Then someone from the past surfaces and we begin to retrace the steps and the picture of the past is revealed. The ending of this story was totally unexpected - it blew me away!! I am not saying anymore as I don't want leave any spoilers but rest assured this is Kathryn Croft's best book yet.
This is such an easy novel to read. The people, the places, the situations are all believable.
I am half way through the book and really couldn't care less. The characters are colourless and all the same, the story line is weak.
It's not good :(
But what did happen? Mia has no idea and has spent five years trying to move on from this incident.
Alison, a stranger to Mia, but a flatmate of Josie’s while alive, reveals to Mia that Zach did not kill himself. It’s clear to Mia that Alison is troubled but she is also the only person who seems to have information about what really happened.
This story is told in alternating dual points of view. We are with Mia in the present and we follow her as she tries to solve the mystery. We also see the story from Josie’s view five years earlier, so we get to understand what was going on with Josie and Zach at the time leading up to Josie’s disappearance and Zach’s death.
I felt the book was crafted well and I did not find it confusing as we swapped time periods. In fact, this method of storytelling added to the mystery. As we neared the end of Josie’s and Mia’s stories, I was furiously reading, wanting to know how it all played out. The final revelation had my jaw dropping. Once again I’ll say that I am a poor armchair detective but I never saw that ending coming at all.
I found Silent Lies to be an enjoyable and entertaining read.
I throughly enjoyed this! Right from the very first page this book had me hook, line and sinker! Its been awhile since a book this good found its way into my hands and I am ever so greatful to the author and Bookouture for putting it there. Kathyrn Croft is an excellent writter. She knows just how to keep people guessing and captured the whole way through. Its never boring, never drawn out and always makes you want to read 'just a bit more.' While the whole way through, there was one thing that was a let down. The ending. Nobody likes to hear that a book like this, that keeps you wondering, guessing and wanting answers, fails to really hit the 'OHH MY GOD' ending that pieces it all together. But, maybe it was the way Id read this. I was suspicious of everybody, going into it thinking they were all liars and this is probably what destroyed the ending for me. It was still good, but it wasnt shocking, atleast not for me. And that is my ONLY reason this is 4 stars and not 5. Such a good story and I definitely, definitely recommend this.

The style is simple and clear. We all know what it means. It takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears to make a style appear simple.
Chapters hop from Josie to Mia : two females who are very different in ages, personalities and backgrounds ; all written in the first person, which helps bring the story and its emotions closer to the reader.
The main weakness resides in the endless going back and forth between various places and lodgings. The bulk of the novel goes round and round without seemingly pushing forward.
“Silent Lies” should have been much shorter, more incisive, more like a long short story (if there is such a thing) or at least a 100-page novella.
This novel will keep you in suspence until the VERY last page and I don't say that easily.
This is a brilliant read, I would say there are four main characters, each written with a real backstory, personality and drive that moves the book forward without stopping.
Some of the characterisitcs of the university girls living together are disturbing and this tends to divert you away from the truth staring you in the face. The characters are mature and well written, each one was believable.
You read on and 'expect' the typical route ( I can't say much more than that without given the story away ) of a storyline but the author cleverly uses that assumption and twists it ever so slightly to something you just don't expect in the story. I really thought I had worked out the answer half way into the book I'm so glad I continued reading because I would never have guessed the ending, in hindsight the answers were there all along. But we have been so conditioned into thinking 'I read things like this before- I know how this will end up' but this book is not like that at all, so you feel tricked and tripped up in your assumption, which I'll never do again when reading this author's book. It is so clever.
This book has the potential to have a follow up and I would love to know if justice is eventually served? And what happens to the characters left behind. READ this book, it won't disappoint!!!
I'm definitely keeping my eye on this author. Brilliant.
Five years later Mia has finally gotten herself together and is finding her way in a new relationship and a new business counselling other struggling people. A new client should be routine but when Alison tells Mia that Zach did not kill himself, Mia’s world falls apart again.
Katheryn Crofts books are always a treat to read and this one was no different. A story that is so well developed you have no clue what’s unravelling in front of you. This book leaves you trusting no one and questioning everyone. At some stage throughout this book I suspected every single character! The final chapter is a head spinner! This is a fantastic read.
. Not once. Kathryn Croft certainly knows how to shock, and surprises us at the same time.i have read every single book she had wrote and can honestly say I every book is most definitely I fantastic. Yet some how this one is by far the best, mind you I have said that about all her books, Actually it’s really hard to say which is the best. Highly recommend this book you will not be disappointed. Kathryn Croft just wish to say how I love yourall your books and hope it’s not too long before we see another release
