The story was different to what I expected and deals with a sporting relationship from a different angle. I've enjoyed other books from this author & this is just as good.
I loved every word of Quint and Annie's story. A.M Madden has an extraordinary way of bringing her characters to life and making you feel so much for them.
This is my first Baseball book, I wish it wasn't because I have so many on too read list but I am so glad this was my first. It was also another first where the couple were so in love and it started off this way.
To know they had been inseparable from such an early age just made you feel so good, and it was so romantic and I loved the main characters they were so uplifting and the author wrote them perfectly.
Of course there is no point to a book if something bad doesn't happen and of course the bad things happen. I was left sobbing to the point I couldn't read and it actually had me feeling something (in a good way).
I loved this book, I loved the low times, the good times and just the general story line. What a great book A.M Madden, Author so so happy with this book, thank you for gifting this to me for an honest review. Just loved this book 5+ stars for sure :)
Quint Lawson and Annie Weber childhood sweethearts, they grew up friends and fell in love, the perfect life, the perfect future, the perfect plan.
Quint excelled in baseball, Annie’s dream of being a teacher, their paths were set. Their dreams were in reach, they could feel it, sense it. But is life really perfect? No one can predict what your life’s plan is.
And sometimes Life throws you a curve ball……..
AM Madden, unique, original, and constantly offering us a glimpse into her great story telling. I’ve read every book she’s written, and she’s delivered every time. Great writing, characters you care about. Real emotions that will keep you turning each page.
I loved the story, it was not transparent how this would twist and turn, but it did. It kept me wondering what will come next, you anticipate one thing, and BAM she delivers another.
Don’t miss this great read, or any other of this Authors work. One of my TOP Authors!!
As I said before this book is different from everything else I read by A.M. Madden before. At least in my opinion. Whereas her other books had at least a small suspenseful and dangerous feel to them, this one is purely contemporary romance. The hotness factor is also not as high as the Devil's Lair books or Stone Walls. The sexual scenes are also far less than in previous stories and I think that this story is mainly focused on the character's feelings. And in my opinion, that's what makes the story brilliant. At first I thought that the beginning of the book is a little bit too detailed, but further on, I think that it explained a big part of the characters' feelings. So in the end I think that that part fits perfectly into the story and helps the reader to get to know the main characters, their background, their dreams, their feelings and also makes it that much easier to relate to Quint and Annie. It also makes the story complete.
There were few scenes in the book that were so heartbreaking that made cry. And I am not talking about few tears here and there, I am talking about an all out ugly cry. Through A.M. Madden's words I was able to feel every single emotion Annie and Quint were feeling. That part of the book was so devastating to read. I can honestly say that I became completely invested into the characters story and that's why I was extremely happy that they managed to find the HEA they deserved :)
There were also few surprise turns here and there that made the book that much more intriguing. The supporting characters were also quite interesting and I would love to read the stories of some of them in future books. Hopefully A.M. Madden will consider writing them ;)
As a whole, I have to say that I loved this book. The story is intriguing and captivating and so heartbreaking that it simply kept me glued to my seat even in the early hours of the night :) It's an amazingly emotional story written in a brilliant way that will make you cry on more than one occasion. But I can guarantee that you won't regret reading it. So get your one click finger working and get the book the first chance you got :)
I Love this book!! It’s a story of friendship, love and your true path in life. I am going to be honest before I first started to read the book, I thought to myself “oh I don’t know if a want a lovey dovey everything is all roses kind of story”, But once I started to read The Shortstop, from the very first page I knew HOW WRONG I WAS!! The Short Stop is an incredibly emotional unforgettable story! I was glued from page one and here it is days later and I still can’t stop thinking about it. It was so much more than I expected! So well written and moving! FASICNATING & BEAUTIFUL!! This is definitely one of my top reads of 2015!!

Well what can I say, Shortstop is such a beautiful story but prepare yourself because there is so much heartache.
From the very beginning you are totally captivated with Quint and Annie's relationship from the age of 5yrs they have been inseparable having done absolutely everything together and by the time they've gone off to College they're almost like the golden couple Just perfect and the envy of everyone.
Even though Quint is pursuing his Baseball career, Annie's right by his side and supporting him every step of the way, it really is a beautiful partnership and the attention to detail throughout is superb, I don't know the first thing about Baseball but as I was reading I couldn't get enough, I loved it.
After being picked up by the Yankees things couldn't be more perfect, Quint had Annie and his Career was taking off but he was always worrying about Annie especially with all the media attention and her career too, he couldn't have been more sincere if he tried but things were about to change and when it does their perfect bubble explodes.
After Quint's accident it becomes a very tough read, the impact takes it toll on everything and everyone in it's path, honestly it was unbelievable how it affected Quint, it completely changed him and eventually destroyed the bond that they both shared, it was extremely sad.
As their story continues we witness a whole host of emotions and situations and things got a lot worse before they got better Quint had already reached his rock bottom and was on the way up and it took Annie turning up at his door to talk things through, get some answers, it was a beautiful moment, Quint knew pushing Annie away was the wrong thing to do but trauma does strange things to you and this is the message that is delivered throughout.
Quint and Annie never stopped loving each other they just lost their way for a while, they got it back and with a perfect ending we couldn't have asked for more.!
By the way I love how A.M. Madden mentions The Devils Lair from her Back up Series she did it in the Stone Walls novel too and I hope she continues to do so in her all her novels to come, it's unique to her..!!
I look forward to what ever comes next.!
The story of Quint & Annie and that they go through made me laugh, cry, scream in frustration and smile with joy. It is an emotional ride and well worth taking the journey. Annie is a beautiful soul and Quint is just beautiful. He has to be at some parts in this book, the most frustrating and stubborn man but it is understandable when looked at from his POV however he needs some sense slapping into him!!!!

A nice friends to lovers read with a good twist in the middle.
Unfortunately, this book took a little bit to get going - the last 40% was excellent but I found it difficult to hold my attention initially. Saying that it was definitely worth persevering with as the latter of the book was much more enthralling and emotional.
