While there are no firm official figures, it is now believed that there are around 100 thousand home educated children in the UK as a whole.Home Education is therefore extremely popular in the UK. Home education is growing at the rate of around 15% per annum and appears to have been doing so (other than between 2008 -2010) since around 1980.

Alongside the growth of home educated children, we are now experiencing growing numbers of home educated alumni’s These young people seem to be doing very well in the competitive world in which they now live. Not only surviving but thriving.

About the Author:

Mike home educated his four children, founded Home Education UK in 2000, the principle, and oldest website supporting home education in the UK and is the owner of Educational Heretics Press, which was founded by the late Professor Roland Meighan.

Mike also edited issues 1 – 16 of the Journal of Home Education and has researched and written three books on home education related issues. He has been interviewed on both local and national radio as well as national TV as well as the BBC world service on various aspects of home education.

He runs a number of online forums supporting home educators and speaks at local, national and international venues on the subject.
