Product Description

Rod Nelson is used to being someone’s good time, and that’s fine with him. Spending his days at his adult toy store, Rods-N-Ends, he never knows who he’ll meet. The second Landon Harrison walks in, he has Rod’s full attention. It seems as if Landon wants him too, so why won't the man jump in the sack with him already?

Landon never thought he’d return home to the town where memories lurk around every corner. He has to admit, Rod makes the adjustment a lot easier. He keeps Landon laughing. Despite the fierce attraction between them, he’s not willing to risk his newfound friendship to get laid.

Neither man wants something serious, but the more they're together, the harder it is to keep their hands to themselves, until eventually they stop trying.

But flings between friends are never simple, and as they attempt to shift gears, diving into their first relationship, they’re slammed with setbacks. If they want to truly move forward, before they hit the open road together, they’re going to have to let go of a past that could make them crash and burn.

10 Stars...Fabulous story.. Loved it... Rodney owns a sex toy store just to make others happy. He hides behind a mask so few see the real him.. So when Landon, new back in town walks into his shop things change..Each other lusting after each other who will break the ice first? Landon also has a past, but their pasts have away of colliding. Will love concur? Highly recommended read..A Must.

Good book. I liked Rod alot more than Landon. I actually felt a bit sorry for Rod. He got the bad end of the stick most of the time (No pun intended). I loved the quick cameos from Crossroads book 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grab Your Helmet and Hang On for a Great Ride! 12 February 2016
By Catherine Clontz - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Riley Hart has knocked another one out of the park! Flawed but real characters, stories told with incredible depth, and supersonic sexual tension combine here to create a combustible novel! We met Rod in Crossroads when he was an employee in an adult entertainment store. Now he owns his own store, Rods-N-Ends, and still unabashedly enjoys the pretty boys he comes across when the mood strikes.

Landon has moved back home to Virginia and is not particularly thrilled about it, but when he discovers Rods-N-Ends and its beautiful and cheerful proprietor, suddenly things don’t look too bad. It’s unfortunate for them both that he refuses to entertain thoughts of a relationship because he knows that he’ll fail, and since he genuinely likes Rod, he doesn’t want to hurt the man.

Rod’s outward exuberance, however, is a carefully crafted facade that begins to show cracks as he and Landon’s friendship takes off. Glimpses into his not-quite-packed away past reveal a man with bone-deep beliefs of himself that are heartbreaking. Can Landon and Rod find a way to happiness, or are they doomed to circle the track forever, never finding the finish line?

This is an amazing story with drama, action, adventure, a touch of angst, and genuine affection. The pacing is spot on, the character development well-formed, and twists and turns keep things exciting from start to finish. I found myself by turns cheering, cringing, or crying, and then suddenly I needed a fan to break apart some of the heat forming from the pair’s intense chemistry. This is an exemplary standard of Riley Hart’s work - five genuinely earned stars of “you simply MUST read this!”

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite Riley Hart novel 3.5 stars 17 February 2016

this author is always an auto buy for me but some of her books are better than others and this was a little disappointing. Crossroads was 5 plus stars and I was hoping for the same from this one. As always RH gives us beautiful characters and beautiful love scenes. The heart of the plot was very good. Landon and Rod have both been emotionally damaged by their respective fathers and are trying to let themselves love each other. Rod avoids intimacy with jokes and sex. Landon keeps friendship and sex completely separate. However, I felt no chemistry between Landon and Rod. This dulled all of the interactions between the characters and detracted from the emotional intensity I expect from RH. In addition the first 50% of the book was extremely repetitive with Rod's constant sexual innuendo and while I could see why the author was doing it and where she was going with it I found it to be annoying. I would have liked more of the substance that was in the last half of the book. If you have never read a Riley Hart novel I would suggest you not start with this one. If you have then it's worth giving it a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars The epilogue of this book take some of the story full circle and made my heart full 12 February 2016
By Denise - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Though Shifting Gears is listing as Crossroads #2, it is very much stand alone.

The main character Rod is only seen briefly in Crossroads as he is adult store clerk who sells Nick and Bryce a dildo, yes the man from this funny scene gets his own happy in Shifting Gears.

I am going to pause here and say if you haven’t read Crossroads I highly recommend it, it is a very well done gay for you times two story, yes both Bryce and Nick has never been with men before. They find something in each other they have never found in anyone before. As a side note I did love visiting with them again in this one!

Ok back to Shifting Gears, I want to start by saying I loved the way the name of this story intertwines with plot.
Rod meets Landon when he walks into his adult “toy” store. Yes, Rod has opened his own story, Rod loves sex and makes no qualms about making that known.

Rod and Landon develop such an easy banter, and though Rod wants sex, Landon initially refusal creates a deeper bond as they men develop a wonderful friendship.
“Hot Rod? I like that. You can call me that from now on if you want. It can be our code to let me know when I get your engine running.”

A light, airy feeling loosened up some of the tightness that always sat in his chest. “That was corny and you’re crazy if you think I’m calling you that.”

The first sex scene, which is sort of non-sex scene, is powerful, hot and a wonderfully crafted vision for the reader.

No this isn’t a BDSM story, this is Rod’s scene of humor:
It was crazy but he loved seeing Landon flustered. “Whatever you say, sir. Ooh, that’s kinky. I’ve always wanted to try and role-play that master/boy stuff. What do you think? Want to order me around? Make me strip for you?”

Both Landon and Rod have backstories that was woven into the story in a way that truly allows the reader to understand them.

I have said it before and I will say it again, humor is so hard… Ms Hart pulls it off in this one, Rod is very funny and I loved his humor to hide the pain. When Rod finally opens up about his pain to Landon (and the reader) it is so powerful and well written.

The epilogue of this book take some of the story full circle and made my heart full, while the bonus scene at the end heated things back up again and make for a wonderful finish especially considering Rod’s career path!

5.0 out of 5 stars FIVE “BE STILL MY HEART” STARS!!!! 12 February 2016
By Keri Tabor - Published on

Riley Hart… OH MY *fans self* GOSH!!! WOW!!!
Rod and Landon, have amazing chemistry, their banter was hilarious and I devoured each and every word in this book. How can two men who have thought love wasn’t in the cards for them, manage to find themselves in a situation where they are falling and falling hard without even really noticing. The pasts are hard to let go of, but these two manage to call each other out on their s*** and still burn up those sheets.
Riley.. I don’t blush often but holy hell woman.. “Let me see your hole.” I nearly rivaled a tomato color.
I cannot even put into words how much I adored Rod and Landon! Oh hell Landon… yikes that man is off the charts hot!
Getting to see Bryce and NIck was also a great treat, I love those two!!
I think Nick and Rod might have me looking for a hot motorcycle man!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Must Read by Riley!!!! 12 February 2016
By Jodi Marinich - Published on

First of all Riley Hart is one of my favorite m/m authors. I loved the first book in this series and of course this one was even a better story. Bryce and Nick are back in this story but it is Rod and Landon's time. You have to love Rod from his cameo in the first book but we get to know him more in this one. Have to love a gay man that owns a Adult store. Landon was a great character as well and I enjoyed meeting his family. Both these men have daddy's issues which affects them even now. The build up is great and of course in the end is a HEA.
I wish there was a higher rating than 5 and I would give it. Cant wait for the next book in this series.
