The title is very apt. Betrayed by many esp at the altar. Your saving grace is your dad. The deception affects many, changing their lives. But it's also about a friend to more & second chance tale.
So this is vague I don't want to give spoilers. Let's just say this is different as Amy is tough. Ah Mason you really had to work for it didn't

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected ... in a GREAT way! 12 September 2014

I went into this book with very little expectations. The synopsis was interesting, the sample pages were intriguing, and the reviews did not give away too much so I figured, why not, it's only 99 cents. Well, I have to say, that was 99 pennies well spent!

The story begins with a lengthy prologue regarding Amy Adams when she was a teenager. This part is mostly about how she and Mason met in high school (she was a freshman and he was a sophomore) and became best friends. It also takes us through ups and downs of their friendship, and includes a VERY steamy scene involving Amy and another character. I was a bit stunned to read this scene. Not that I'm a prude or anything - I love me some hot scenes like any other red-blooded woman - but it was quite detailed and well-written and ... just, WOW! It's in the sample pages ... read it and see for yourself.

Then the book really starts. Fast forward to when Amy and her friends are all in their mid-20s and working in a law firm. Amy is about to get married to David, who she has been dating since college. Her BFF from college, Tori, is the maid of honor and Mason (still a BFF) is the best man. Something happens at the wedding ceremony that is the catalyst for Amy's "Shattered Dreams". And the rest of the book is not only about how she deals with the fallout, but how everyone else deals with it as well.

The entire book is extremely well-written and the depths of emotions that you feel for the characters are quite amazing. Interestingly enough, I found myself feeling the most not for Amy, but David. The author did a great job of capturing the inner thoughts of all the main characters; multiple POVs were presented throughout the story, but with no confusion to the reader and making the story flow smoothly and giving the reader great insight into each person's thoughts. This was done quite well, IMO.

Now, what was really unexpected was the HEAT in this book. There are some scenes that are just FREAKIN' HOT!!! I was quite surprised, but in a good way. I was expecting an emotional read, which I got, but I was not expecting a bit of Erotica in this one, which was welcome and completely fit into the story quite well. The scenes were not gratuitous, IMO, but simply added to the intensity of the story and was a nice "break" from the angst. And they were really well-written!

So, why only four stars and not five? So many spelling errors!!! I usually can disregard and the errors in this book did not take away from my enjoyment of the book, but some of them were just plain silly. For instance, someone would put his hands on a woman's "waste" (instead of waist) or a character would "shutter" (instead of shudder). Just really basic stuff like that that became almost comical to me at how often it occurred throughout the book. Again, did not take away my enjoyment of the book, but I wish an editor (I volunteer!!) would read through the book and really clean it up, so that more readers can take it more seriously. Because this is one great story and told in a unique fashion that should not be shadowed by simple spelling errors.

All in all, a great story. Look forward to more from this author, especially if she is to continue with this series!

Oh My Stars all 5 of them! D.L. Kane in her debut book Shattered Dreams has woven a story of betrayal, jealousy, heartbreak & love. She takes you on a journey into the main characters souls. Amy Adams thought she was marrying the man of her dreams. Until her world comes crashing down. This story had me talking to my kindle from the beginning. The feelings of betrayal that rip friendships apart. The real grit of relationships where what sometimes is left unsaid can change lives forever. I could not get enough & now I can't wait for the next book in the Shattered Souls Series. Kudos D.L. 5.0 out of 5 stars So happy I read this book. AMAZING 1 September 2014

I adored this beautifully written book. I very rarely cry when reading a book but this one actually brought me to tars a few times. The first time I was so mad and sad at the same time when Amy found out about her fiancé's betrayal and Tori I wanted to just slap her. I have never wanted to scratch and claw someone as much as I did her.
The second time I cried was when Mr. Hunk Mason finally??? You need to read this book to find out what I mean.
Amy and Mason grew up together as best friends and something happens that makes the two drift apart but even though they always remain friends they never tell each other how they really feel.
This book intrigued me it truly did and I look forward to reading many more stories from D.L. Kane
And oh the ending will just turn you into a puddle of goo. That is how beautiful this story is so go grab your copy and enjoy this fantastic novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shattered Dreams A brilliant Start to a New Series! 28 August 2014

Shattered Dreams by DL Kane is the best debut novel I have read in a long time. The characters were portrayed really well, each having their own awesome descriptions, and it helped make you get to know them all individually fairly fast. The book is well written and it made me feel so many different emotions all at the same time, along with a great story line and plot to make this a roller coaster of a read, holding my interest from the first page to the last. This book reads like it has been written by somebody who has several novels to their name, rather than just this book! I will definitely keep this novel in my "keepers" list to read again!

The day of a wedding has arrived, and the groom, as well as the best man and the maid of honor all have secrets they are hiding, shameful secrets that can devastate the bride, a beautiful woman whom every one loves because she is a rare commodity these days, a wonderful, caring, beautiful and nurturing woman, well loved by all and the single most important thing in her father's life, who has loved her since day 1, after his beloved wife dies in childbirth- Amy may have grown up without her mother but through her fathers's words and pictures knows that her mother loved her so much.

At the altar something terrible happens and you have to read it to find out what it is but I will say this; what follows is a story line of the utmost betrayal,by 3 people who say they love the bride, but do they? Read on about how selfish and jealous and vindictive one person can be towards a person that has done nothing to her but be there for her, loved her when her own family did not care to be anything to her. Add to that the fact what she says to cause what happens is a total untruth, and that cuts even deeper into all four of them.

Her finance betrays her in the worst of ways, and Amy, always honest in her dealings with anyone, can't believe he would do this to her, and she is ruined. Amy has given her all to this relationship putting him first over everyone, even her father and best friend, Mason, who has been there with her since the first day of 9th grade, and has looked after her and loved her without her even knowing the depths of his love for her.

However, the worst betrayal comes from her best friend, who knew what had happened but stood there silently while the wedding was taking place, and did not tell her she was making a big mistake. The boy she adored that grew up with her as they became young adults together and had an unbreakable friendship. This more than anything else throws Amy as well as himself into the deepest pits of despair. Why did he remain silent?

What will happen, will there be forgiveness, will there be closure on any of it? Watch as each of them winds up living in the bed of their despair - a pit of their own makings. But also watch as something else happens to bring hope to all of them in a different way, and watch how Amy's father, a man who let his daughter have a lot of freedom growing up, pulls in the reins and manipulates her life along with the power of friendship between two people make it possible for them to forgive each other so they can move on in life, and along with Amy's father's help bring Amy the happiness she deserves.

This book will give me a book hangover, but I am so glad I read it and I give this author a 5***** star rating for this beautiful story. Thank you D.L. Kane for this gift to all of us!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly told Story!! A must read!! 21 August 2014

I just have to start by say that DL you did an amazing job on this book and I cannot wait to read the next one you put out!! Ok so now for my review. This book was great from start to finish Amy thinks she is marring the man she is supposed to spend the rest of her life with and then crap hits the fan!! And she is forced to start all over again, but trying to find her way to do that is the hard part. I was hooked I needed to know how Amy was going to deal with things, I loved her character, she was easy to relate to when she reacted to things I could not help but think 'I would totally do something like that'. I was emotionally involved I am a big cry baby and I was so proud of myself for not balling the whole book(Not that the whole book is sad there are a lot of really funny parts in there too) but there were a few parts that I just could not help it the situations and feelings were so real and DL does such an amazing job at making sure you feel all of it. I love the connection between Mason and Amy, and well lets face it I just loved Mason...:) Shattered Dreams was such a great book you get all of the emotions all wrapped up in one great book it is Funny, there is Love, Hate , Betrayal, Anger, Shock.. Do not hesitate to read this book you will love it!!!
