McKenzie Lewis’s ability to read the shadows has put her—and those she loves—in harm’s way again and again. The violence must end, but will the cost of peace be more devastating than anyone ever imagined?
After ten years of turmoil, the life McKenzie has always longed for may finally be within her grasp. No one is swinging a sword at her head or asking her to track the fae, and she finally has a regular—albeit boring—job. But when a ruthless enemy strikes against her friends, McKenzie abandons her attempt at normalcy and rushes back to the Realm.
With the fae she loves and the fae she’s tied to pulling her in different directions, McKenzie must uncover the truth behind the war and accept the painful sacrifices that must be made to end it. Armed with dangerous secrets and with powerful allies at her side, her actions will either rip the Realm apart—or save it.

Every once in a while, you read a book that pulls you in, emotionally drains you and leaves you with a book hangover when it is finished. This is one of those books/series.

I can’t speak highly enough of this series. I cannot think of any negatives except that I wish it didn’t end. I don’t give many five star reviews, but this one is most deserving of it!

Highly recommended for anyone who loves an action-packed, superbly-written urban fantasy with sizzling romance and a kick-ass heroine.

Sandy Williams is an amazing, talented writer and I patiently await her new series release

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice ending to a good series! 23 March 2016

This book begins as soon as the previous one ends. McKenzie’s life is completely changed due to an incident in the last book. Not only her life but all of her relationships as well. Due to Kyol’s actions, everything has changed. I can’t help but wonder if it needed to though.

Aren clearly had issues accepting the life bond between McKenzie and Kyol. I think he was right in giving her space. She of course hated it but the life bond means that her and Kyol will feel each other always. How weird would that be? I mean if your ex-boyfriend could feel every emotion you feel? Like every emotion- even those that you have with your sweetheart? I can see how it would weird someone out. Plus, in his world a life-bond is extremely special.

McKenzie felt off in this book, at times just acting whiney. She does figure out what is going on. She does help the realm. I just wasn’t feeling as attached to her as I did in the first two books. Mainly, I felt that she didn’t attempt to understand the two guys in her life- Aren or Kyol.

Kyol, oh how I wanted to cry for you. Everything you have does has been done out of your sense of honor. Yet, being honorable hasn’t really paid off for you. I can imagine how you must feel loving McKenzie and yet not being with her. I don’t know how you are handling the life bond, especially the emotional side of things.

The Sharpest Blade does wrap things up and brings to the close for us the story of the Shadow Reader. I just felt that there was something missing. Not really sure what it was, just know that it wasn’t there. I enjoyed the series and do recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing ending to an Amazing series. 2 April 2014

I had the ridiculously awesome privilege of beta reading this book for Sandy last year and the final product is just as amazing as the rough product was. I've been a huge fan of this series from the start and I am so glad that each book went from awesome to amazing. It is so fresh and new, especially in a genre that is pretty full of the same old stuff.

McKenzie is one of my favorite urban fantasy heroines and I grew to love her even more as every book progressed. She’s sassy and tough and I loved the way she grew throughout the series. There were some fantastic moments where she stood up for herself and did things that the original McKenzie probably would have thought twice about. And don't even get me started on the men in her life. Kyol and Aren are so fantastic, of course, though I have a major soft spot for Aren, which made this book heartbreaking at times. The rest of the cast of characters were always great and that didn’t stop with this book. I would love to see a follow up with Kynlee as the main character…a novella or something; anything to revisit this world at least for a brief period of time.

The end of this book, which is also the end of the series, has to be one of the most satisfying endings I've ever read. This will go down as one of my favorite series and I will definitely re-read it as often as I can. Sandy Williams has a fan in me and I can’t wait to read what she writes next.

Arc provided via Netgalley for an honest review. I also purchased the book in paperback.
4.0 out of 5 stars What a great end to a great trilogy. 2 January 2014

This book really did a good job closing all the loose ends created from the previous two books.
The reason it wasn't given five stars is because I thought that it would have been nice for the Torum to be involved in settling Lena in as Queen. In the middle of the book I thought recruiting them by promising the Fae world open to them would have given her support and more arms to battle the False blood.
I was also disappointed in how much the blood bond was talked about between Kyol and Mckenzie. I have to admit that I love all the main characters in this book but wish somehow it would have been written slightly different (not the end though).
We never find out the fate of one of the main characters which is disappointed. What happened to him did he live?
Paige shows up at the very end but is talked about a lot through the book. I was kind of glad to see her take a back seat because she was my least favorite character in the second book.
This book and trilogy is by far one of my favorite trilogy love triangles. I really enjoyed reading it and will forever be in love with Aren.
If you are reading these reviews you will not be disappointed in these books. Sandy is creative and makes you connect and love all of the main characters which you look for in this book.
The ending leaves a lot of characters paths unanswered and my mind has created happy endings for all of them. Especially Naito who is a great character.
Sad to see the trilogy end but can't wait to see what Sandy creates next.
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing end to a trilogy 16 February 2014

The final book in the Shadow Reader trilogy. I am extremely heart broken to see this series come to and end as I loved each and every book in this series. I will try and keep this review as spoiler free as I can.

This has been an amazing ride and I am sad to see it come to an end albeit a fantastic end but it’s still an end nonetheless. Sandy has the ability to create a world so amazing that you find yourself at the end of a chapter in the bling of an eye and at the end of the book before you even realize you put all of those amazing pages behind you.

McKenzie has become my favorite female heroine because she has no problem in saying how she feels and she is far from being a push over. She wants to be normal and I was on team McKenzie, she didn’t sign up for this but yet at the same time she drops everything that makes her normal to help out those she loves. Aren is my favorite bad boy because on the inside he is a big marshmallow and you can’t help but love him.

This book wrapped up nicely although I want a novella and I think Sandy knows why I am asking for this. I would like to see a series focused on some of the outside characters (Lena, Kyol, Paige, Lorn, Nick, and Kynlee). A perfection ending to this series! I am sad to see this go!
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It! 3 January 2014

I picked up the first book in this series (The Shadow Reader) on a whim. At the time, I really hadn’t read much in the Urban Fantasy genre and I wasn’t really sure this series was going to be for me. It didn’t take long to see how wrong I was. With the end of each chapter I found myself becoming more and more immersed in the world and the characters that Sandy Williams had skillfully created. I immediately continued on to the second book (The Shattered Dark), and by its end I knew I had discovered a series that I would be re-reading again and again.

I anxiously awaited the release of THE SHARPEST BLADE with mixed feelings. I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for these wonderful characters but at the same time, I was a little saddened by the fact that this was to be the last book in the series.

I absolutely loved this book! To me, it was the perfect end to an amazing story. Somehow, Ms. Williams was able to tie up any loose strings and questions that arose in the other books while packing THE SHARPEST BLADE full of action, angst, thrills, deceit, love and great loss. – And she did it all while remaining true to her characters.

If I had one complaint about this book it would be that the ending may have seemed a bit rushed - though I am willing to admit that was probably just me not wanting the story to ever end.
