Shadowborn Academy – Year One – Snow/Bailey
Our FMC Corvina is Shadowborn and has been touched by darkness from the tender age of eight! Ten years of foster care among other Shadowborn children has ill prepared her for the academy in which she and her BFF, Sage, also a Shadowborn child from the age of eight, have been thrust for training - think Hogwarts meets senior high school.
While Corvina settles into a new school routine she meets lots of new Shadowborns, some of them teachers with a little supernatural something extra, some classmates and one very surly and highly suspicious Headmaster. Some of the challenges she faces are almost too simple as she has a hidden advantage, Pitch! A Dark Fae who lives within her soul and only communicates with her. Nobody else, not even her bestie, can see Pitch when he comes out as he only allows Corvina to see him. During the course of the year, we learn that Pitch has taught Corvina a few tricks and spells, so she is already ahead of the pack magic wise.
Throughout the first half of the book we are introduced to the male characters that I expect will eventually form into her RH. Pitch, who we learn is actually a Dark Fae Prince is among these. There is a lot of innuendo and sexual tension, but nothing too steamy as this first book is a slow burn. I suspect the authors are saving the really hot scenes for the year two book and the conclusion of this story in the series.
World and character building excellent and so descriptive you can almost feel the magic of the academy and its occupants tingling through your fingertips as you turn the pages.
Can’t wait for book two in March 2020! Four stars!
